Album:

"The Great Momentum" is a co-production by Anthony Clarkson and drummer Johannes Jungreithmeier. The album will be released worldwide on Feburary 17, 2017 by Steamhammer/SPV as 2CD digipak, 180g gatefold colored double vinyl, download, stream and as a boxset, limited to 500 copies including 2CD digipakk, double vinyl, signed autograph card, mousepad, A1 poster, button, sticker and patch!Hello Metal-Temple. EDENBRIDGE have been around for a while now, delivering a slew of album since their debut in 1998. this February they are releasing their 9th studio album “The Great Momentum”, and they are looking more solid than ever.Taking their place in the Symphonic Power Metal sub-genre among the likes of NIGHTWISH and EPICA (although they have no reason to be envious of the 2) EDENBRIDGE delivers a great performance in this album and they do try their best to stand out, and Sabine’s vocal work is in great part responsible for this. The album opens on “Shiantara”, which is a great introduction to the atmosphere of EDENBRIDGE and features massive guitar solos along with a great drum track that throw you right into the thick of things before leading to “The Die Is Not Cast”, which is similar, but with a faster pace and some amazing keyboard solos. The album is effectively divided into two types of songs; “The Moment Is Now”, “The Visitor” and “Return To Grace” are speedier, and more aggressive but yet gentle and symphonic; while “Until The End of Time”, “Only A Whiff Of Life” and “The Greatest Gift Of All” are more acoustic, mellow and emotional. Both work well with the selection of instruments and the vocal track of Sabine is exactly what you need on every song.Talking about “The Greatest Gift Of All”, that song is an impressive 12-minute piece that can be compared to some of the greatest song by NIGHTWISH during the Tarja years. The song writing in this piece is stunning.Whilst the album is very well rounded, the only things that bothered me is that it feels like it’s been done before. It doesn’t really stand out even though they tried their best. It is still worth picking up, but don’t expect to be blasted away with some new kind of Symphonic Metal. It is however, a very strong statement that EDENBRIDGE is still here.

Album:

Any band wanting to leave their mark in our fast-lived world needs first and foremost two things: compositional substance and consistency. After all, there are plenty of one hit wonders in this industry, those overnight sensations with their artificial fast food-like products that frequently don't even have the shelf-life of fresh fruit and veg. Edenbridge on the other hand, has already proved their great musical potential, nine studio albums since their debut in 2000, in addition to a number of live recordings, DVDs and compilations speaking for themselves. Having said that, it's surprising that the Austrian band surrounding vocalist Sabine Edelsbacher has once again succeeded in raising the bar for symphonic melodic metal even further with their latest album "Dynamind". Composer and multi-instrumentalist Lanvall has produced another offering that's ambitioned in every respect and will without a doubt go down in the band's history as their toughest release to date.

Album:

To celebrate the bands 20 year anniversary The Chronicles Of Eden Part 2 is another fan suggested compilation from Austrian Symphonic band Edenbridge.Part 2 spans their career from My EarthDream up to their latest offering Dynamind. There’s even 3 previously unreleased new recordings of classic tracks Dynamind, Paramount and a beautiful acoustic version of Higher.Seeing as this compilation album had the tracks included voted for by fans, there’s not a duff track on it.I’m a noob to Edenbridge (I’d only heard Dynamind up until this point when The Chronicles Of Eden Part 2 this arrived on my desk). I’ve got to be honest and tell you that I really like this band. The Chronicles Of Eden Part 2 is a great place to start listening to and experience Edenbridge.. I’ve just ordered the new set of remasters from their website on the back of listening to this album, it is that compelling. If you’re a fan and a completist you’ll purchase this for the 3 unreleased tracks. If you’re like me and only heard either an album or just a track of theirs and thought about purchasing an album, buy this. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Album:

Austrian Symphonic Metal band Edenbridge return with their eleventh studio album ‘Shangri-La‘. If you are a longtime fan of the band, please forgive my ignorance. I am not a close follower of symphonic metal and I have never heard of the band before. I dig bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation, and regard the latest Visions of Atlantis album ‘Pirates’ as one of this year’s great albums. I was hoping for something along those lines with this album. What I got is an album that has tropes that I love about symphonic metal along with parts that do not work for me.I will start with the positives first. The best tracks are the ones that are short and get to the point. Third single ‘The Call of Eden’ has everything that makes symphonic metal unique and powerful. Soaring vocals, fantastic melody, and a chorus that sticks with you long after the song is over. ‘Hall of Shame’ is another winner. One of the faster tracks on the album, it hits you hard from its opening notes and does not let up. Best track goes to ‘Somewhere Else But Here’. The interplay between singer Sabine Edelsbacher and guitarist Arne “Lanvall” Stockhammer works very well. The melody notes are heavy in the verses but lighten up while Sabine is singing, with the focus kept on her until she stops singing, allowing the guitar to come roaring back. Her ethereal singing in the chorus is moving and beautiful, while also remaining powerful. It’s everything I love about the genre. The album unfortunately takes some missteps that could have been avoided had the band decided not to overindulge in their symphonic tendencies. The over eight-minute opening track ‘At First Light’ is a great way to open the album, with a soaring, powerful chorus. Ms. Edelsbacher has the vocal chops to pull off what can be very difficult material, and she does it with ease. The first four minutes are everything I would want to hear when I listen to symphonic metal. The problem arises at around the four-and-a-half-minute mark, the song completely changes direction with a different melody. This is not something uncommon, but what usually happens is the band returns to the original melody to close out the song. That does not happen here. It’s as if two songs were welded together and neither melody complements each other. It does not help that the second melody is not nearly as exciting as what came before. That return to the original melody is critical, without it the song loses its way and lessens the impact, as is the case here.As much as I would like to, I just cannot enjoy any song that runs over sixteen minutes long, which is the case with closing track ‘The Bonding (Part 2)’. Yes, there are parts that are exciting that get the blood pumping, and it’s great to hear Eclipse and W.E.T. singer Erik Martensson guest on the track, but the overindulgence of including multiple melodies is something that always confounded me. It would be so much better to separate the songs into individual tracks and still get the story that you would want to tell across to the audience. Finally, there are some songs that just meander and do not ebb and flow the way a solid song should. Acoustic ballad ‘Savage Land’ does not build to anything. Sabine sounds great and there are times when the song sounds like it’s about to reach a crescendo, with a huge harmony coming in, but then the song ends abruptly. ‘Arcadia (The Great Escape)’ does build up to a huge sounding chorus and has great atmosphere but it’s let down by a chorus that is all choral gang vocals and not much else.If you love everything symphonic metal then I would imagine this album is a blind purchase, especially if you are familiar with the history of the band and know what you are getting. For people like me who follow certain bands and prefer power and melody over grandiose and pomp, then I would suggest checking out the album online first and cherry-picking songs. There are certainly some winners here. I was just hoping for dig more than half of an album.

Album:

With their 12th studio album, "Set The Dark On Fire," and their return to the Steamhammer/SPV label, Edenbridge explores new soundscapes without abandoning their tried-and-tested trademarks. This is primarily due to a significantly heavier basic sound, which harmonizes perfectly with the lyrical and visual direction of the Austrian quintet around singer Sabine Edelsbacher and composer/guitarist/keyboardist Lanvall. The songs are characterized by harmonic and structural diversity. Powerful riffs and expansive guitar solos meet opulent, symphonic orchestral arrangements and unusual string instruments rarely used in metal, such as the dulcimer, swarmandal, monochord, and electric sitar. Sabine Edelsbacher's warm, distinctive timbre lends the compositions a high level of recognition.
