URGENT was formed in the Summer of 1983 and started playing live-shows around the Dublin-area.Composed by Arthur Whelan (on Lead Vocals and Keyboards), Robert Young (on Guitar and Keyboards), Howard Dunne (on Lead Guitar), Bernard Molloy (on Drums) and Declan Caulfield (on Bass), the band recorded a few songs in a local studio, until they got signed with a local record label called OWL Records, that put out a project-album of unsigned bands which featured two songs from URGENT.After this release, URGENT recorded the first single called “Hearts of Stone” (again on Owl Records), and the RTE (Irish National Television)-program “Borderline” invited the band to perform two original songs live in the studio.Having seen the band on TV, international artist Chris De Burgh offered URGENT a support-slot on his 14 sold-out shows, which represented the top in the band’s career.A deal with Polygram Ireland was then signed and the band released the single “Goodbye / Heaven”, which made to number 37 in the Irish charts!Supporting the release with a full production video of the song “Goodbye” and with live-shows in many venues around Ireland, the band unfortunately went its separate ways due to internal issues in 1989.What is left is their great music, a fantastic Melodic Rock / AOR, reminiscent of bands like FM, FOREIGNER, JOURNEY and BOSTON.
