And what kind of name for a metal band is Leverage anyway? It’s a TV-show! And what is that cute singer of that other band doing with a bunch of sorry ass wanna-be metal guys such as this lot? Leverage landed on the scene in 2006 with the release of their debut album “Tides”. With their blend of symphonic/progressive metal and melodic rock, Leverage generated a buzz amongst rock and metal fans and was signed by Frontiers for the release of their second album, “Blind Fire”, in 2008. The band's third album, “Circus Colossus” was released via Spinefarm in 2009, but the band became inactive not too long afterwards. Now, after a near decade of hibernation, Leverage is back with an amazing new singer, Kimmo Blom (Urban Tale, Raskasta Joulua) and a new guitar player, Mikko Salovaara. The forthcoming digital EP, “The Devil’s Turn", will serve as an introduction to the new Leverage line-up as well as an appetizer for the band's forthcoming fourth album. In producer and main songwriter Tuomas Heikkinen words: “The songs on the EP were written over a period of several years, with 'Dead Man’s Hand' being the oldest song and 'Children Of Skyfall' the most recent. With those two and 'The Unicorn' plus 'Wheels From Hell', the EP covers a pretty wide range musically, but were chiseled into a sound and form we feel good about. It’s all heavy rock, not any form of power metal. Not that there’s anything wrong with prog metal or power metal or whatever, but right now we feel that we want to capture something that is recorded with a live feel, with no exaggerated choirs or orchestrations all over the place, so that we can deliver the stuff live also without using background tapes and to be able to have some freedom too.”On “Wheels From Hell”, Tuomas says: "The way we’ve been writing with new guitarist Mikko Salovaara is that we’ll come up with a theme, like let’s write a song about this or that. With this one we aimed to write a fast-paced rock song about a herd that steamrolls over anything in its way. And also, we wanted it to be an old school band thing with double guitar solos and all that. It just started taking shape pretty fast. We had a great time with this one right from the get go, the thing’s got a great drive and Kimmo nailed the vibe perfectly with the aggressive and somewhat over the top (in a good way) vocals. This song will be great live too.”Leverage’s new line-up will make its live debut on July 21 at John Smith Festival in Laukaa, Finland.

Album:
Finnish heavy rockers Leverage finally put an end to their 10 year hiatus between studio albums with the announcement of the release of their highly anticipated new album "Determinus". Preceded by the release of the 2018 (digital only) EP "The Devil's Turn", Leverage is set to retake its place in the standings of the heavy metal/hard rock community with this new album.Leverage is not a power metal band nor an AOR band and definitely not a throwback to the 80s band. Leverage doesn't fall into an easy category. Leverage developed its own style of heavy rock in the 00s. For the band members, it has always been about making and playing music with all of their hearts and souls while having a blast doing it. Their sonic stamp, says Leverage. That's it. "The new album is the same but different", says guitarist and founder Tuomas Heikkinen. "This is the way I write. It is heavy rock and draws from a variety of influences, mine or the other members. I used to make demos that had every bass, drum and keyboard note MIDI programmed to detail and then just asked the guys to reproduce that exactly, but now I only underline the passages that I feel are essential and let them have a go at expressing themselves as musicians. And just as importantly, I always try to hear the vocalist in my head when writing. Pekka and Kimmo are two different singers, that definitely guides the process."Leverage landed on the scene in 2006 with the independent release of its debut album "Tides". With their blend of symphonic and melodic hard rock combined with some progressive metal twists, Leverage created a buzz on the scene and was signed by Frontiers for the release of their second album "Blind Fire" in 2008. Spinefarm/Universal picked the band up for their next album "Circus Colossus" (2009), but the band became inactive not too long after. "People that have heard the music say that it definitely has the Leverage vibe, but also covers new ground. It has variety, ranging from pretty damn heavy to all kinds of far ends at times. This album sounds like a band playing and there's movement where we didn't use to have it. There's less overdubs, not too many huge hired choirs, very little MIDI orchestrations and less tracks all together", continues Heikkinen."Determinus" also introduces an amazing new singer, Kimmo Blom (Urban Tale, Raskasta Joulua) and a new guitar player, Mikko Salovaara. "Kimmo is a phenomenal and very versatile singer. He draws pictures in front of you the way he sings", concludes Tuomas. "He has a huge presence, both seen and heard and is not the most typical vocalist in this scene. He approaches each song as a short story and really throws himself in there. Mikko is a monster guitar player with a background of very heavy and complex metal with a band called Kiuas. It was like I am going to get him or Leverage will have only one guitar. I am happy he wanted to join the band. I have been blessed to get to work with outstanding guitar players in Leverage, first with Torsti and now with Mikko.""I'm really excited about all this, getting back to making Leverage music with a great group of people, old and new. And getting it out through a solid label to the fans", concludes Tuomas."Determinus" promises to be one of the highlights of the melodic metal genre in 2019.

Following the untimely passing of singer’s Kimmo Blom in August 2022, Leverage’s future seemed uncertain. However, after some months of hiatus, founding member and main songwriter Tuomas Heikkinen, decided it was time to give the band another shot of life. The result of this process of rebuilding saw the outstanding singer Paolo Ribaldini (Delain) and violinist Lotta-Maria Heiskanen joining the band with the precise task to renew and refresh the sound of the band. The resulting album “Gravity”, which is the band’s sixth full-length album in slightly less than 20 years, aptly showcases contemporary heavy rock sound, which takes influence from the golden past while still offering their own unique personality. Plenty of ear-catching melodies delivered skillfully with pristine production on the band’s latest album.Finland’s Leverage are not a power metal band, nor an AOR band, and definitely not a tribute to the '80s band.
