MALLEVS is a heavy metal band created in Chrysoupolis, Kavala by Giannis Maleas (ex-White Tower) in bass, Panos Takos (ex-Lightning Rust) in vocals and Manos Triantafyllou (ex-War Device) in guitars.The line-up was completed by the drummer, Nikos Tsiligoudis in order for their first single "Fire and Blade" to be released by Lovestate Records.Very good Heavy metal band from Greece.Only one album released so far "The Hammer" (2024) through Floga Records.

The first full-length album of the band "The Hammer" by Floga Records comes with changes and additions to the line-up of the band.Thomas Trampouras was added as one of the guitarists while Kostas Gkialou (Wild Heat) was behind the drums.With mace and chains come Greek warriors Mallevs who are preparing to unleash their brand new album “The Hammer” this September via Floga Records. Yes, we are in 2024. Yes, this record sounds like 1985. Yes, that quote is from Back to the Future (if you are too young to know, go check it out, it is a good one!) It is Sunday in the morning, the sun is just starting to show over the mountains so the light is soft, very demure (you think a Millennial cannot learn how you speak today? Ha!) and this debut album from the Greek band Mallevs called “The Hammer” is definitely hammering my eardrums with strength and speed.Don’t get me wrong, this is a very solid work that sounds like you would expect when it is defined as NWOBHM. Even though they are not British, the wave is definitely not new and the riffs and lyrics are closer to Power Metal but they definitely sound classic enough to qualify as Heavy Metal and there are not pompous singing or orchestration to be Power Metal so, having this clarified, let me say that this record is, actually, awesome.Mallevs has a sound, rawness and impact that reminds me a lot of the extinct and never famous German Power/Speed Metal band Rawhead Rexx, only two records, but those two records are some of the best. Insane riffs, direct and powerful sound, lots of aggression… and that is why Mallevs reminds me of them.Guitars are powerful, harmonically simple but full of weight. The drumming is precise, fast and clear. The bass is present, punchy and adds harmonic content to the final mix. The singing is classic, with high pitched end of phrases and doubling lines that give that chorus effect to the line.I have to confess that I am definitely not a fan of this kind of singing, but there is power and all notes are in tune which is not something that is common nowadays.So if you want to travel to the past and listen to a very classic sounding record, you will not need roads, but you will definitely enjoy this record a lot if you listen to it while driving at 88 mph or more.
