Bio:

Nine Stones Close is an English progressive rock group from the Netherlands whose name comes from the standing stones of the same name found in Derbyshire.[1] The band started out as a solo project by multi-instrumentalist Adrian Jones (Numb & Lie Big) when he moved to the Netherlands. The first CD, St Lo was independently released in 2008 and received heavy airplay on independent progressive rock web-based radio stations, particularly on The Rogues’ Gallery Progressive Rock Podcast on The Divifing Line. This generated visibility and critical acclaim, which in turn inspired the 2010 follow up Traces that saw Adrian teaming up with Brendan Eyre (Riversea), Marc Atkinson (Mandalaband, Riversea), and Neil Quarrell.[1] In 2013, the third album One Eye on the Sunrise saw Nine Stones Close take further steps away from being a project towards becoming a band with Adrian Jones, Marc Atkinson, and Brendan Eyre being joined by Peter Vink (Q65/Ayreon/Star One/Finch) and Pieter van Hoorn (Knight Area).

Album:

Nine Stones Close was conceived in 2008 as a solo project by Adrian Jones (Numb, Lie Big, Jet Black Sea): the first CD, St Lo, was independently released in the Netherlands. After heavy airplay on The Rogues’ Gallery on The Dividing Line Network, he received critical acclaim and visibility which inspired him to create the 2010 follow up Traces. The project grew into a band for Traces when Adrian joined up with Brendan Eyre (Riversea, Tony Patterson & Brendan Eyre), Marc Atkinson (Mandalaband, Riversea), and Neil Quarrell. One Eye on the Sunrise (2012) saw a further evolution of the band with returning members Marc Atkinson and Brendan Eyre now joined by Peter Vink on bass (Q65/Ayreon/Star One/Finch) and on drums Pieter van Hoorn (Knight Area). The result was a sonic treat with truly soaring moments on tracks such as Frozen Moment, A Secret, The Weight, and the majestic title track. In 2016 Leaves featured a new line up; Adrian Jones and Pieter van Hoorn were joined by vocalist Adrian (Aio) O'Shaughnessy (Psychic For Radio, Frame Shift), Christiaan Bruin on keyboards (Sky Architect, Mayra Orchestra, and The Black Codex amongst others) and Peter Groen on bass (A New Dawn). This album saw yet another evolution in the band’s sound, putting a new twist on an already unique and distinctive sound: rich, elegant soundscapes with a subtle psychedelic edge.In 2024, after a forced hiatus, the band has further evolved along with the music. Adrian Jones is joined by returning members Brendan Eyre, Adrian (Aio) O'Shaughnessy and Christian Bruin, alongside an energetic and skillful new rhythm section, Lars Spijkervet on drums (Automatic Sam) and Joachim van Prag on bass.A hugely inspired, creative and productive period of writing and recording led to the completion of two new albums, “Diurnal” and “Adventures In Anhedonia”, both scheduled to be released in 2024.

Album:

The second album to be released by Nine Stones Close in 2024 is 'Adventures In Anhedonia'. It is a very personal album, lyrically, and reflects on the mental state and wellbeing of us all, based on the personal experiences and traumas of Adrian Jones’ recent past. Adrian says, “...it really reflects what’s been happening to me over the past years, the effect it’s had on me and how I have tried to deal with some of it...”The music is very distinct from that of the Diurnal album, reflecting the lyrical themes and feelings that inspired the songs, while still retaining the unique Nine Stones Close sound. From the soaring opening track ‘Beach Walker’ to the epic finale of ‘Plastic Animals’ the album takes you on a ride through the Nine Stones Close musical world and the psyche of Adrian Jones. With Paul van Zeeland at the helm again producing and mixing, the band’s sound has further evolved, creating a stunning sonic landscape, from quiet, reflective, beautiful moments and soundscapes to soaring powerful heaviness, the emphasis is always on the highest possible sound quality and dynamics, to immerse the listener in the world of Nine Stones Close’s music. The band are really excited for everyone to hear the new album; they think it’s some of the most diverse and engaging music they have made so far.
