Album:

Eynomia hail from the USA, a land known for producing a great many talents, and leaders in the symphonic metal genre. Break Free, is the band’s introduction to the wider world and to this writer.Songs such as Cleansing and Someday Maybe, bring a raw punch that has often been found wanting in some metal releases in recent years, whilst songs such as Till We Meet Again and Break Free allow lead singer Phyllis Rutter to really show off her vocals.Guitarist Chris Bickley shines throughout the album but on songs such as Cleansing, Through Your Eyes, Let It Go and When Its Over, he really lets rip, adding an extra dimension to the songs that might have otherwise have been missing.Eynomia are made up of legends of the genre, and with such talent, there are those who might be forgiven in thinking it would not work. They are rightly proven wrong. Break Free is a stellar work, that blends elements of classical metal, symphonic metal and soaring vocals all in one to bring a classic album. When this album is released on Friday, 26th January, be sure to pick it up.

A Minneapolis native, Rutter’s career as a vocalist has led her to be inducted into the Mid-America Hall of Fame and, and she is a Minnesota Music Award winner.

Album:

On February 16, Mirror Image Records is reissuing Eynomia’s 2018 debut album, Break Free on CD, as a digital download and via streaming platforms. The reissue will include one bonus song, “Raise Your Voice,” an anthemic, upbeat rocker that Bickley wrote specifically for the re-release. “It’s about voicing your freedoms and standing up for what you believe in, a really appropriate message for our current climate,” Bickley explained.Break Free revolves around the dramatic vocals of Phyllis Rutter and Chris Bickley’s powerfully melodic compositions and wild guitar shredding. Ground-shaking blasts of bass and drums make it metal, but intricate keyboard parts partake of the sophistication of progressive rock. The overall sound evokes symphonic prog metal bands like Night Wish and Within Temptation but with an airy, expansive structure that allows the songs—and their listeners—to breathe. I hope you’ll consider covering the band with an interview, feature, news story or album review. Please let me know if you need a DL.The album made John Kindred of HardRock Haven’s Top 10 for 2018; he enthused: “Constructed lavishly with layers of dynamic instrumentation the music on Break Free provides Rutter the perfect backdrop for her vocal melodies…A phenomenal debut release.” Break Free was the first recording for a relatively new unit, who began in late 2015 when Rutter and Bickley met on Facebook and began trading musical ideas. Rutter lived in Minneapolis, where her many artistic achievements and long-time support of the regional music scene won her several Minnesota Music Awards and induction into the Mid-America Hall of Fame. Bickley was a veteran of Thunderhead, a New Orleans prog rock band beloved of Johnny Winter, and the touring guitarist for Rebel Montez and SNL singer Christine Ohlman. The pair soon discovered a potent working chemistry; each liked what the other was able to do with their songs. They began talking about putting a proper band together. Bickley called in his long-time friend, drummer Gaetano Nicolosi, a conservatory-trained percussionist living in Italy, as well as keyboardist Jimmy Pitts of NorthTale and Eternity’s End. Rutter suggested the bass player Mike LePond, an in-demand session player best known for his work in Symphony X and Silent Assassins.Break Free was recorded remotely with Eynomia’s far-flung band members recording their parts in their respective home-towns and forwarding them to band leader Chris Bickley to assemble at his home studio in Connecticut. Robert Romagna mixed and mastered the album at his studio in the Austrian Alps.Highlights include the thundering, crescendoing “Till We Meet Again,” one of the first songs Bickley and Rutter ever worked on together. Bickley had written the basics before he even met the singer and asked her to have a listen. Rutter returned it with vocals and a new melodic line. “I fell in love with the melody and what she did with it, so much that I had to change around the whole guitar solo section and added a classical guitar to it,” said Bickley. “That song really spoke to me when it was done.” Their partnership continued to develop as they collaborated on more tracks. “To Your Eyes,” one of the last songs laid down for Break Free, was written specifically to showcase Rutter’s voice. “Phyllis was brought to tears singing that song. She liked it so much,” said Bickley. “It reminded her of falling in love.”

Album:

EYNOMIA return with the follow-up to their 2018’s “Break Free” presenting a new album “Sea Of Tears” to be released on June 14th, 2024 via Mirror Image Music Group. The band hails from the United States and play melodic heavy metal, but for this release they have added some prog and symphonic metal ingredients as well. The album is preceded by the singles “Jekyll And Hyde”, “Mask Of Vengeance”, “Reborn” and “The One” to be the final single released before the album drops.“To The End” is the opening song and begins with a lengthy starting piece and at approx. 8 minutes is a mini epic. The band have tackled some important issues in song with “Jekyll And Hyde” speaking to the listener about the evils of alcoholism and the effects on the individual and those around them. “The One” addresses a very serious subject prevalent in today’s society which is bullying and how those who are different from the norm are targeted online, in schools, workplaces and on the street.I don’t believe there is a bad song on the album over the 10 tracks. However, I’ll just highlight one more which is the closing track “Raise Your Voice” and a great way to finish with such a catchy sing-a-long chorus. All members are highly credentialled in their respective fields and recorded their parts remotely. It was all brought together in the studio by guitarist Chris Bickley and what a superb job he has done! The band are a cohesive unit producing the highest standard of compositions and music on this superb release.I love the album and it will be on constant rotation and is a highlight of the first half of the year for me. Once it is released and more and more listeners get to hear it, I’m sure the feelings will be mutual with mine. It is heavy, melodic, progressive with light and shade. Played and sung with precision. Something for all fans of this genre with a little extra to attract new admirers.Kudos to the band members: Phyllis Rutter (superb vocals), Chris Bickley (vigorous and creative guitars), Mike LePond (deeply experienced bass), Jimmy Pitts (meticulous keyboards) and Gaetano Nicolosi (formidable drums).Highly Recommended!!
