Midas was the king of Phrygia. In Hellenic mythology he was known for his ability to turn everything he touched into gold.Midas from Detroit Rock City was formed from the remnants of two long-standing hard rock bands from Michigan, USA. They came together, really trying to capture the magic of the late 70's and early 80's sound and the transition from hard rock to heavy metal. The bands that seem to have influenced Midas the most are the bands that not only captured the sound of their era, but really turned it into their own sound. Always trying to be special and not just a cookie-cutter mould of some vintage retro sound. Bands like Heavy Load, Tank, Alien Force, as well as big classic bands like Thin Lizzy and Judas Priest who seemed to always be one step ahead. The first full-length album was recorded with this in mind. Midas tried to polish their own sound, still paying homage to the metal gods.

MIDAS from Detroit Rock City was formed from ashes of veteran Michigan, USA hard rock bands. They came together really trying to capture the magic of that sound from the late ’70s and early ’80s, and the transition from hard rock into heavy metal. The bands that seem to influence MIDAS the most, are bands that not only captured the sound of their era but also really moulded it into their own sound.Equal parts of pure traditional metal and catchy hard rock with brave doses of Thin Lizzy influences and 80s Swedish melody and vibe may refer to many bands out there. But it’s the only way to describe Midas self-titled debut.Midas seems to lack inspiration only when it comes to name their debut LP as everything besides that, the self-titled record is a triumph! 70’s and 80’s classic metal sound has a plethora of bands that praise its glory and tributes its era legacy and Midas can be counted on the ones that do it perfectly. You can also hear an epic feeling and a Heavy Load essence or even an early Iron Maiden hint.Despite the fact that the album has two faces or two sides as a Heavy Metal approaching in half songs and a Hard Rock approaching on the other half, still the final result is brilliant. Great riffs and guitar solos flows so easily as the records spins and the catchy parts create instant classics.Vintage classic hard n’ heavy for the soul.
