It was 2012 that four longhaired lads from Zürich started a band that completely dedicated itself to the sound of 80’s Rock. More than 80 shows later they are more determined than ever to reach out to both old and new fans with their original high-powered Music! They recorded their first album in 2013 at the famous Tonmanufaktur Studios in Zürich. They were bold enough to call it «Greatest Hits». Two years later with the help of V.O. Pulver (gurd, poltergeist, pulver and panzer) at Little Creek Studio they produced and eventually released the album «Wild! Wild! Wild!». After some internal changes in 2016 including the addition of a second guitarist, King Zebra had to say goodbye to it’s singer Tom Hoochy Coo. One year later, Eric St. Michaels joined. With Eric’s longtime career as front man and shouter for the rock band China, this native-born American from New Jersey brought a distinctive voice and has contributed significantly to the newly defined sound of King Zebra. The first release with the new lead singer is called «Bad Idea». The single was recorded at Powerplay Studios, mixed by V.O. Pulver and mastered by Dan Suter. 2018 will find Eric St. Michaels, Lauer, Jerry, Ben and Michael on stage together and ready for action. Ladies and gentlemen, we loud & proudly present: King Zebra!

It’s been quite a while since a crazy kid called Chip Leather met Sacks Luther for a fun game called „Drink it or suck it“. They both were crazy ass musicians but spent most of their time with interests in brasilian body hair removal. In 2009 they decided to form the band King Zebra with just one goal. To get more groupies than any other band. At this time Chip played a home-made double-neck guitar although one neck was just made of apples and japanese newspaper. Despite his lack of guitar-building knowledge and a heavy drinking problem, he is an all-time onstage hero who knows how to jizz on a guitar. Sacks spent a trillion dollars to buy a drum set made of the most expensive stuff on earth, built by Mike Tyson. Sacks is richer than a jewish coin dealer! While looking for a bass player a guy called To Bola showed up. He had absolutely no skills but seriously trained abs. He immediately joined the band. An old Russian friend of Sacks and Chip, Billy Igor became the lead singer in summer 2009. After the first recording session at the Tonmanufaktur studio in Zurich, where the world hit „Glamrock City“ was born, Billy Igor quit the band to become a crack cook in Fresno. While the band was looking for a new lead singer, To Bola got into the game of Spoople and started to get so boring he had to be kicked out of the band. All of a sudden there was Michael Jack Pot. This hyper active kid was full of energy and good vibes. After a diet and some work out lessons, Michael joined the band in late summer 2010 although he semed a little weird. The hunt for a lead singer wasn’t easy until there was Jibby James. A blessed scat singer from the early 30ies. Jibby James is still a good fellow. Unfortunately he enjoyed his life as a Rockstar a little too much. He had to quit the band after a couple of days because of his 13 children from 14 chicks. Get well soon Jibby! Finally we found him. This guy is nuts. Tom Hoochy Coo of former Band The Dizzies was the man we wanted. He’s a little fat but never mind. So Hoochy became the lead singer and King Zebra started kicking butts in January 2012. Hoochy, Chip, Mike and Sacks.

If you were to close your eyes and play King Zebra‘s new record Wild!Wild!Wild!, you would most likely think that this album was made sometime back in the mid to late ’80s and perhaps it had just been recently re-released since the production is better than back in those days. The melodies, sounds and hooks on the record are all reminiscent of that golden era in glam hard rock / hair metal. As it turns out, King Zebra are a fairly new band emanating from Switzerland of all places — which is not exactly the hotbed of rock and roll except perhaps in the eyes of Krokus — and Wild!Wild!Wild! is the group’s second full length studio release. To say that I like Wild!Wild!Wild! is an understatement. It is more like I love Wild!Wild!Wild!. I admit that the gritty singing of King Zebra‘s lead vocalist Chip Leather (interesting name) took a little bit of getting used to at first but I find now that his rougher delivery works really well with the polished guitar driven eighties music that his bandmates produce time after time, track after track. I truly believe that if King Zebra‘s Wild!Wild!Wild! had been released back in the 80s, the band would be at the very least one of those bands like Dangerous Toys that disbanded with the advent of grunge after cultivating a loyal following and which reformed twenty years later to play one off gigs here and there and at small festivals. If you haven’t figured out from the band members’ names or silly group name, King Zebra are not a band that takes themselves that seriously. After all, the short lived band has a prior album named Greatest Hits. They remind me a bit of Steel Panther with their light hearted humour. As far as Wild!Wild! Wild! is concerned, every track on it is a good one. If you are looking for something truly original, there is no doubt that the album will leave you disappointed. However, if you are longing for eighties sounding, catchy, sing along type songs with tasty not overdone guitar licks, Wild!Wild!Wild! may well be the equivalent of a wet dream for you. Given that King Zebra‘s music borrows heavily from a past era, you can find a lot of similarities. For example, the guitar riffs on “Point Of No Return” remind me a lot of Eddie Van Halen‘s guitar playing on the 1986 released 5150. On the other hand, “Too Many Rules” reminds me of Extreme with its funky groove. You know a band has hit a home run when I even like their sappy cheesy ballad or at least “slower” song but the acoustic tinged “Purple Roses” is for the most part quite good except for the repetitive “purple roses” background vocals during a few parts of the song. It’s tough to pinpoint exactly which are my favorite tracks on King Zebra‘s Wild!Wild!Wild! since I enjoy each one of them but if you have a gun to my head, I’ll go with “Too Many Rules” with its funky grooves, “Never Stop Trying” with its nice melodies and “Welcome To Longstreet” with its anthem like feel and soaring guitar solo. If you like glam and hair hard rock / metal, check out King Zebra. I am sure that you won’t be disappointed.

Founded by Eric St. Michaels (ex- China), Swiss hard rockers KING ZEBRA have been around for almost a decade, releasing some singles, EP’s and touring extensively, and now are ready to release their debut album with Golden Robot / Crusader Records titled ”Survivors”. The band rides the line between modern and traditional old school ’80s hard rock / glam metal with tunes that certainly make them stand out from other rock acts that come from Switzerland. The album opens with the cleverly titled ‘Under Destruction’, a high octane rocker that’s one of those “dangerous while driving” songs that can make you hit the gas just a little too hard if you’re not careful. The CD then sails into first single ‘She Don’t Like My R’N’R’, with it’s bluesy swagger that’s a different beast altogether from the first track. From these two songs you can ascertain this is a band that is capable of touching on various genres of hard rock and delivering quite impressive results. The album builds its strength from there. Third track, ‘Desperate’ is a highlight with its old school glam / sleazy rock feel. ‘We’re The Survivors’ and ‘Hot Cop Lady’ are catchy, melodic, high energy, and a lot of fun to listen to.We Are One’ has elements that remind me of Dokken’s ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’. Being a huge Dokken fan, that’s a tremendous complement. St. Michaels is assisted on ‘Wall of Confusion’ by vocalist Guernica Mancini of Thundermother. With her powerhouse vocals she takes a good song and fires it into the stratosphere. There are so many great tracks but I have to spend some time discussing my favorite, ‘Rush’. Sometimes simplicity can make a huge difference when it comes to a tune that delivers. The band takes the “verse, bridge, chorus” paradigm and throws it out the window. The song is a basic 2/4 beat from drummer Ben Grimm with a solid rhythm from bassist Manu Judge. They make the unique decision to replace Verse 2 with an extended solo from guitarist Roman Lauer. Nothing flashing to his playing, but just a lot of feeling and emotion as opposed to fast frets. Towards the end of the song, the track kicks into double time before falling back into the chorus. A complete surprise, but I love it when songs take a direction I did not anticipate. On every record usually we find one or two songs not as strong as the rest, but every song on ”Survivors” ranges from good to great.KING ZEBRA is a band that will certainly make some noise in the hard rock landscape and needs to be heard by both fans of newer and older sounding hard rocking roll.

KING ZEBRA, the band hailing from the picturesque city of Zurich, Switzerland, emerges as the new face of melodic rock in a harmonious fusion of youthful exuberance and veteran wisdom. A couple of years ago, KING ZEBRA released their album ‘Between The Shadows’, their first via Frontiers Records, reaching larger audiences.Meticulously produced by Oscar Nilsson, “Between The Shadows” showcase the culmination of dedication, passion, and attention to detail that defines KING ZEBRA’s distinctive sound, characterized by former CHINA vocalist Eric St. Michaels.Tomorrow July 31, 2026, KING ZEBRA will release “Between The Shadows [Deluxe Edition]“, including 3 new tracks and a new version of ‘Dina’ in acoustic form, bringing a new dimension to song and the band’s sound. And the new tracks are really good. Our favorite is ‘All I Want Is You’. Originally written in New York in the late 80s by frontman Eric St. Michaels and acclaimed songwriter John DeNicola – best known for his work on the iconic Dirty Dancing soundtrack and recipient of both an Academy Award and Golden Globe – the track remained unreleased for almost 40 years. This expanded edition, also featuring new artwork, takes you deeper into the KING ZEBRA world, the definitive version of this strong, catchy rockin’ record.Opener ‘Starlight’ gives you a good idea of what to expect. Soaring harmonies, thunderous guitar work and a massive chorus that just has you tapping your toes and banging your head from the very first listen. Production is polished, crisp, clean & clear.‘Children Of The Night’ is a full-on instant party tune and has a sing-along chorus to die for which will surely become a huge live show favorite going forward. ‘Wicked’ is a slow build guitar driven track with more great harmonies while ‘Dina’ combines Eighties Rock/Pop with melodic rock in the best Reckless Love fashion.‘Love Lies’ is another big tune, while ‘Cyanide’ is for me the best song on this album by a country mile. An ominous opening builds immediately to a full-blown classic structure with hints of Alice Cooper and Ratt flowing through its veins. It’s a big song and one that is worth the price of admission on its own.’With You Forever’ is light and mellow with Eric St. Michaels showcasing all his experience and why he already shined years ago in CHINA, while ‘Love Me Tonight’ is in a similar vein and is yet another AOR track of the highest quality with some cool melodic guitar work.‘Out In The Wild’ is a radio-friendly, windows of your car wound down type of song, then album closer ‘Restless Revolution’ is a Skid Row / Bon Jovi style hybrid and is an excellent way to finish this fine collection of breezy, summery American sounding melodic herd rock music played at its finest. The bonus tracks are really good. The aforementioned ‘All I Want Is You’ is plenty of ’80s magic. Then ‘Heart Without a Home’ is King Zebra’s first true ballad. The song mix electric & acoustics, recalling early Nineties Def Leppard, and of course, CHINA.And “A Love I’ve Never Known” is a pretty killer melodic rocker, full of dynamic riffs and superb vocals. While the band’s previous recordings were good and enjoyable, “Between The Shadows” was a huge step up in both production values and sheer immediate songwriting quality. And the new songs on “Between The Shadows [Deluxe Edition]” highlight the band’s growth, showcasing even greater musicianship and production quality. If you yearn for that Eighties sound you’ll love this!
