Bio:

Michael Voss and Holggy Begg have created an alternative semi-accoustic two man orchestra live project called Beggar's Jam, based in Switzerland: St. Gallen/Locarno.The band tours Europe playing at music festivals, in big halls, clubs, local bars and more. From Malaga to Berlin they continue to rock audiences with a unique combination of original songs and selected classic cover. In the 1980s Michael Voss had great success singing and playing guitar with bands such as Mad Max, Bonfire and Casanova. He is also well known for producing a variety of musicians including Silver, Michael Schenker, Herman Rarebell, Mickie Krause – to name a few. Together with Holggy Begg (Beggar's Bride, Crush-Zac-Begg, Noll), the two men have collaborated for 15 years on projects with musicians like Don Airey, Gary Barden, Mark Schulman, Molly Duncan and Dorkas Kiefer.Together, Michael Voss and Holggy Begg rock the stage and are truly a tour de force in the tradition of classic Rock'n Roll.Voss & Begg were also band members of Herman Rarebell's «Acoustic Fever» (Herman Rarebell – noted drummer and songwriter for the Scorpions from 1977-1997). Playing live as 'special guest' for Herman as well – as on the upcoming European tour, starting in October 2014 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Album:

A first album in January 2013, a second in June, and a third in November. So, during 2013, BEGGAR'S JAM released three albums. You read that right. Even Elvis, Johnny Cash and the Beatles have never been so productive. The old-timer duo of Michael Voss and Holggy Begg have, after a long period of circling each other, decided to seal their union by copulating wildly and taking the piss out of birth control programmes. It has to be said that the creative task here is rather limited. By reworking and adapting tracks from their own repertoire (Casanova for Michael Voss, Beggar's Bride for Holggy Begg) or putting their own spin on classics from the genre, the two musicians take few risks and seem above all intent on satisfying their desires. The listener is of secondary importance. Nevertheless, although distributed on a small scale (via Voss's label, A-Minor), these releases are bound to be listened to, and therefore appreciated, by fans of the two men's undeniable talent.is the duo's fourth album, contenting itself with a sluggish reworking of tracks that Holggy had already used on his Beggar's Bride project. It's obvious that tracks like ‘Broken Hearts’, ‘Summer Rain’ and ‘Borderline’ are successful pieces with finely chiselled melodies, testimony to an artist who knows how to compose songs that hold together and seem cut out to be performed in an uncluttered context, conducive to bringing out the emotions. Similarly, the only track from Casanova's repertoire, ‘Seal it with a kiss’, is a calm, reflective ballad that is enhanced by its acoustic adaptation. What remains is a feeling of emptiness, confirmed by the lacklustre interpretation of certain classics: while ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ (The Who) remains acceptable, ‘Tin Soldier’ (Small Faces), ‘Gimme some lovin’’ (Spencer Davis Group) and “The Passenger” (Iggy Pop) sound very bland, and inspire nothing but a boredom we could have done without.Come on, the exercise has had its day. If Michael Voss and Holggy Begg's desire to collaborate is commendable, why not take the time to compose together, since both artists have offered some nice melodic rock/hard rock in recent years. But this 2nd Set, as enjoyable as it is, seems bland and pointless without the addition of the renowned musicians who played on the previous instalment. Gentlemen, we expect better.
