PYROCLAST is a Glasgow-based metal band delivering a sound that blends the fire of classic heavy metal with the precision, weight, and scope of modern metal. Built on strong melodies, twin-guitar interplay, and a clear sense of dynamics, their music leans as much into atmosphere and storytelling as it does into impact.With each member drawing from a broad spectrum of heavy music, PYROCLAST’s sound refuses to be confined to a single style, shifting between melodic, aggressive, and atmospheric elements as the song demands.The band’s identity was solidified with No Place for the Damned Redux MMXXV, a reissue that introduced updated artwork and formally established the PYROCLAST name. With the same core lineup responsible for the original recording, it marked a turning point and a sharpening of direction and intent.That momentum carried into 2025 with the release of “Pyroclast”, an anthemic, crowd-driven track that quickly found its place in the band’s live set, followed by “Brought by a Flame”, a more cinematic piece that expanded their narrative scope and brought the Trinity storyline to its conclusion.Drummer Jack Davenport joins the lineup, having emerged from the same local scene as guitarist Chris Horne and bassist Liam Barrie, adding further cohesion as the band moves into its next phase.That balance of melody, weight, and atmosphere comes from the band’s individual backgrounds. Vocalist Mark Reid brings a melodic, expressive approach influenced by singers such as Michael Kiske and Roy Khan. Guitarist Baz Fitzsimmons draws from the twin-guitar traditions of bands like Iron Maiden alongside the weight and precision of Metallica. Chris Horne’s approach is shaped by the melodic phrasing and compositional style of players such as Ritchie Blackmore, bringing depth and structure to the band’s arrangements.On bass, Liam Barrie channels the driving gallop and clarity associated with Steve Harris, combined with the technical precision of Billy Sheehan. Behind the kit, Jack Davenport combines the technical precision and power of Aquiles Priester with the intensity and attack of Joey Jordison, bringing both control and aggression to the band’s evolving sound.PYROCLAST will be releasing the new album, Fractured State, on September 4 2026 across multiple formats and editions. The new material builds on what the band has already established, while pushing further into more progressive and expansive territory.PYROCLAST‘s sound is shaped by what each song requires. Coming from Glasgow, Scotland, melodic heavy metal band PYROCLAST used to be called TANTRUM not so long ago and the upcoming “Fractured State” is technically the very first album after the name change.Playing a very intense style of metal in the same lane of Iron Maiden, Lion’s Share, Bloodbound, Helloween, and the likes, the band starts destructing everything with the opener ‘Pyroclast’, a punchy number with a plethora of solos and the great vocals of Mark Reid that sings his lungs out with real potency and if it is true metal is what you want, true metal is what you get!Riding the hot hand, then appears the equally outstanding ‘Slaughterhouse’ with gigantic guitar solos that explodes everything in sight. The honest-to-goodness DIO-esque Break The Tide is the junction of mid-tempo rhythm with potent vocals of Mr. Reid and of course the twin guitars of Baz Fitzsimmons and Chris Horne conquered my heart in another ace moment of the album, and they go hell for leather in the track ‘Prisoner Game’ that resembles the Germanic metal, I mean, a lot!‘Brought By A Flame’ has a strong chorus that is in midtempo territory and suddenly they up the ante over again with an abundance of metal changing the mood here and there and showing dexterity in almost everything including the no-holds-barred ‘Beneath the Beyond’ that is anthemic (as the whole album), a kick ass headbanger.The well-done ‘Ozymandias’ is the most intriguing of the album, being because the way the lines are sung, the potent quasi-hard rock drumming and rhythm and its serpentine nature, and when it comes to final crunch Pyroclast go all in the last 9-plus-minute song ‘Erebus and Terror’ that it’s the perfect fit to pack this fantastic album with earworm choruses, different phrases and creative musicianship.This album is for those who like their metal served with power, energy and melody, and we can guarantee one isn’t going to be disappointed.
