Bio:

Sinbreed is the project around 27 year old Guitarist Flo Laurin who joined forces with dedicated artists of the European metal scene. The blistering combination of speed, melodic and aggressive arrangements combined with high and soaring vocals characterizes Sinbreed's distinctive Power metal, and they now present their debut album "When worlds collide".The project has been in the making since the late nineties by founder Flo Laurin, and piece by piece everything has fallen in place; from the style of the music, the influences and the band members. Three demo’s were recorded, and the last one was voted “Best newcomer of the month” in Germany’s Heavy Magazine. During spring 2009 a deal was made with Sweden’s Ulterium Records, and the band started to work hard on their debut album. The members of Sinbreed are Frederik Ehmke [Blind Guardian] on drums, Hebie Langhans [Seventh Avenue] on vocals, Alexander Schulz on bass and Flo Laurin who handles guitars and keys. For the mixing and mastering of the album the band decided to work together with the highly acclaimed producer Markus Teske, famous for his work with Symphony X, Vanden Plas, Neal Morse among others.Guests on the album includes Thomas Rettke [Redkey, Ex. Heaven's Gate], Joost van den Broek [Ayreon, Star One] and Morten Sandager [Pretty Maids]. The artwork was created by Felipe Machado Franco [Iced Earth, Ayreon, Pyramaze] and the booklet by Markus Sigfridsson [Darkwater, Harmony].“When worlds collide” is definitely an album that will be loved by metal fans all around the world. Everything from song-writing, performance, production and artwork is top-class, and this album is only the beginning, watch out for Sinbreed!

Album:

A new power rises in the German Metal: SINBREED breathe the scene with its uncompromising, melodic power / speed metal new life. That here rounders are at work, it quickly becomes clear. With Marcus Siepen and Fredrik Ehmke two Blind Guardian members include the line-up, lead singer of the band is Herbie Langhans (ex-Seventh Avenue) which, with its powerful and rough, yet melodic organ once again proved that he one of the best singers in the country."Shadows" is the second album of the band, and their first with AFM. SINBREED offer something that you can rarely hear these days: speed consistently heavy, catchy and yet provided with rough charm Metal, which works without keyboards. This band has big plans - and "Shadows" is only the beginning.

Line-Up:

Herbie Langhans - Vocals (2008-present) - See also: Beyond the Bridge, ex-Seventh Avenue, ex-The Preachers, ex-Neoshine

Everything from song-writing, performance, production and artwork is top-class, and this album is only the beginning, watch out for Sinbreed!

Album:

Germanic power metal has really become its own little thing over the years, making it a reliably punchy alternative to the overly pompous, fancy-pantsy, chaos wizardy sounds of traditional Euro-power. One of the better purveyors of this muscular brand of Teutonic terror is Sinbreed. Fronted by the leather lunged Herbie Langhans they’ve reliably brought the thunder and aggression since 2009, taking the base sound of Accept and Grave Digger and punching the accelerator, often sounding like Helloween‘s bigger, meaner brother, Roccoween. 2014’s Shadows was an enjoyably edgy romp full of powerhouse vocals, biting riffs and catchy choruses, and Master Creator picks right up where that platter left off, offering more rough n’ tumble power metal with an mean streak and cauliflower ears. No surprises, nothing new, just well executed, enjoyable metal with attitude and hooks, and sometimes that’s all you need, dammit!Opener “Creation of Reality” is a great introduction to the Sinbreed sound – zippy and exuberant like typical Euro-power, but Herbie’s raspy, warbling snarl makes everything feel heavier and darker. He smooths out his delivery for the big, bombastic, Helloweenie chorus and it’s all very melodic and easy to digest while still packing ample nutsack. “Across the Great Divides” jacks up the heaviness with meaner riffing and more maniacal “Jorn on steroids” vocals and it makes quite the impression. “Behind a Mask” dials up the crunch even further, sounding almost like Bay Area thrash, and when Herbie gets his pipes in the mix things gets rowdy.Tracks like the rousing “Moonlit Night” carry references to classic Vicious Rumors and Metal Church and the melodic nature is offset well by crunching riffs and Herbie’s urgent requests that you “live on the edge of tomorrow.” The title track is extremely close to modern Helloween musically, especially during the chorus where Herbie sounds a lot like Andi Deris, but the thrashy riffs elevate it to the next level of badassery. The best cuts hit late with the one-two punch of “The Riddle” and “The Voice.” The former is a speedy aggression-fest with extra gritty vocals and a snappy chorus, and the latter is a dead ringer for Ronny Munroe era Metal Church boiling over with metallic goodness. Even the uber mega cheesy chorus on “On the Run” doesn’t derail the general coolness and angry swagger Sinbreed delivers (though seriously, that chorus belongs on a Gloryhammer does ABBA tribute album). The only track that leaves me a bit flat is the obligatory power ballad “At the Gate.” I know you want a change of pace on an album that usually goes 100 M.P.H., but the song just never takes off as a power ballad should and if I heard it live I’d be forced to keep my lighter holstered. At exactly 45 minutes, Master Creator is the perfect length and with all songs in the 4-5 minute range, it breezes by in an enjoyable flash, encouraging replays. The big selling point for Sinbreed is Herbie’s vocal attack. He sounds like a mix of Mark Tornillo (Accept), Andi Deris and David Wayne (Metal Church, R.I.P.) and he can shift effortlessly between a hoarse roar and smooth as silk crooning. He’s also adept at knowing when to dial up the power for maximum effect and when less is more (if that’s a thing). Tobias Sammet must be a fan since he recruited him for his recent Avantasia album, and it’s easy to see why. Flo Laurin provides a plethora of ripping riffs and dabbles in multiple genres while keeping the speed near maximum for much of the album. His solos are pure hyper-melodic ear candy but fit the material perfectly. And let’s not forget Frederik Ehmke of Blind Guardian fame who returns to provide a thunderous wall of percussion that keeps the sound heavy and driving.Sinbreed is one of my favorite power metal acts and Master Creator is exactly the kind of album I want from them – fast, angry and catchy as hell. If you like the Germanic method of metal and bands like Herman Frank or Grave Digger, you can’t go wrong with this. Even if you love your power metal fruity and your shirts piratey, this may still have real appeal after you get past the “scary” vocals. Definitely worth hearing, so do partake.

Everything from song-writing, performance, production and artwork is top-class, and this album is only the beginning, watch out for Sinbreed!

Album:

It’s very hard to make it in the power metal world. The constant criticism of it being a stale genre and the fierce competition make bands feel the need to leave their safe space and often times reinvent themselves. Sinbreed was one of those bands, though, that had all working out for them before their new effort, ‘IV’: an unique powerhouse vocalist, inspired riffs and a fresh take on the European power metal strand, only to suffer considerable losses since their last output ‘Master Creator’ (2016) with longtime member – and one of the band’s pillars – Herbie Langhans, leaving his post.Alex Schulz (bass), Frederik Ehmke (drums, Blind Guardian) and Flo Laurin (guitars, keyboards) quickly picked up the pieces and joined forces with Nick Holleman (vocals, ex-Vicious Rumors) and another axeman in Manuel Seoane to finish their fourth album and to further consolidate their intent of being one of the great new euro power metal bands out there. But Nick Holleman’s voice is very, very different than Langhans’, being high-pitched, cleaner and somewhat generic for the genre’s standards, so naturally the band’s modus operandi shifted from an Iron Savior-esque style to an almost by-the-books *insert a melodic Swedish/Finnish band here* kind of sound, which means that some of their uniqueness has been lost forever (or at least until they change vocals again).“First Under the Sun” and “Falling Down” open the album illustrating exactly that. The entire pace of these songs was tailored to fit Holleman’s falsettos and screams, and even the crunchy riffs and powerful drum-work by Ehmke were slightly modified to a more frenetic tempo. The melodic choruses and characteristics leads seen here are reproduced throughout the whole effort in some manner, giving you a déjà-vu feeling more often than not. While tracks like “Wasted Trust”, “Into the Arena” (which sadly only shares the name with Running Wild’s classic tune) and “Pride Strikes” are heavily supported by these elements and kind of get lost in all the frantic, urgent motion, it’s when Sinbreed maneuvers to more carefully crafted compositions that they truly shine. “Pale Hearted” and “Final Call” are easily the two best songs here, with Seoane and Laurin masterfully providing lead support with their guitars and Schulz and Ehmke blasting through in the background.“Pale Hearted” evokes every element that has ever worked out in these guys’ favor, from the pounding of the drums to the heavier approach. By slowing things down, there’s a clear improvement in the verse and bridge here in comparison to other tracks, and the quick change of speed to power-up the chorus is a tried-and-true formula that works wonders in the song. “Final Call” is also a great moment, introducing some folky elements and featuring a medieval aura akin of the European metal scene of the late 1990’s.“The Purge” is also a winner, but unlike its predecessors, takes a more modern path with galloping riffs and a strange, but cool chorus. It’s a good track especially because it sheds a different light in terms of overall songwriting. Similarly constructed is “At Least I Am”, but this one is actually a mix of the melodic, sugary vibe with some heavier parts.“Pride Strikes”, like I said above, and closer “Through the Fire” are yet again two happier tunes, with the latter one being one of the most flowery songs of Sinbreed’s career. Heavily keyboard-driven, it’s an epitome of European power metal in all its unicorn-ish, magical glory. It could easily be featured in a Stratovarius album or as an ad for diabetes awareness – get your sword, shield and insulin for this one.‘IV’ is essentially antagonistic to what Sinbreed made in their first three albums: instead of being powerful and imposing, it’s pompous and melodic. While the execution instrumental and songwriting-wise are top notch, it bothered me to see that the Germans took a safe, lukewarm road with an ok view over a challenging one with a far better reward at the end, which is what they were doing with Herbie Langhans on the helm. The compositions are solid and the quality is way above average for the genre, so I recommend this to power metal enthusiasts, but longtime fans of the band may have some small issues with it.
