Skull Revenge is a music project with a variety of well-reputed artists. State of Oblivion is the debut album of Skull Revenge. Album mixed and mastered by the legendary Fredrik Nordström at Studio Fredman. Album cover by Martin Wrigsjö. Known for his artwork with Manowar. State of Oblivion is influenced by many of the old legends like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Halloween and Avantasia.

State of Oblivion is the debut album from Skull Revenge, a project of drummer Tobias Flensburg who brought in several different vocalists, including Thomas Vikström (Therion, Candlemass), Christian Liljegren (Narnia) and Peter Östros (Jaded Hearts) as well as other musicians to bring his vision to fruition. The music is traditional heavy metal with a hard-rocking accessibility to the songwriting, with heavy and satisfyingly crunchy riffs and plenty of catchy choruses. The sound is hardly retro, but there are echoes of the past, like the vocal lines on "State of Oblivion," which had me thinking of Perfect Stranger-era Deep Purple, and other, less obvious influences. I find some of the songs a bit too slow and plodding for my taste ("Future") but none of them are bad; I just enjoy it more when Skull Revenge plays at a faster tempo. If you like the straight-up heavy metal of bands like Impellitteri, Alcatrazz, Axel Rudi Pell and others, State of Oblivion is an album to check out.
