Bio:

The past is alive! It was in the year of steel 2003 that guitarist Martjo “Whirlewolf” Brongers (from legendary Dutch heavy metal act VORTEX) came face to face with the young headbanger Nima “MetalHeart” Sadeghi on the Belgian battleground of Graspop Metal Meeting. The two immediately discovered their common passion for Heavy Metal and Jack Daniel’s... and discovered that both were resident in the city of Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. A friendship was born and grew stronger over the years. The talks of the two making music together was something that kept coming up for a long time, but the right time and opportunity never seemed to come along. In 2016 the time was finally there: the talks were over, it was time to take action, and so STEEL SHOCK was born. The mission: unleashing Heavy Metal in the 80s tradition: no trends, no compromise, just pure fucking Heavy Metal and all its glorious clichés.Having found the right people with the right attitude to complete the force, the forging of steel tunes began to take shape, a deal with the Greek label Alone Records was quickly a fact, and in the spring of 2017 the first demo, ‘First Strike’, was unleashed. Limited to 250 hand-numbered copies the demo was given away for free at the legendary and prestigious Keep It True festival in Germany. The demo was a huge success and a few journalists took it upon themselves to write about it. The five warriors left no time for argue and completed their debut album, ‘For Metal To Battle’, which was released in September, followed by a successful tour with German warriors, Wizard. The album has received, and is still receiving great reviews from the international press, and the reactions of the fans is overwhelming to say the least. The Shockers have already started working on material for the second album, which tentatively will be released in the fall/winter of 2018. Of course plans for further live battle are in full preparation as we speak…Let there be metal, and Shock that Fuckin’ Steel.

Album:

Sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised even as a reviewer. Undoubtedly, the newcomers STEEL SHOCK have succeeded in doing so. With "For Metal To Battle" the band around vocalist Nima and guitarist Martjo (VORTEX) presents a fresh debut album, which should find some friends in the true metal scene. Singer Nima is at least one title in 2017 probably already safe. No other shouter is likely to have put the word 'metal' into his lyrics as often as the Dutchman this year.Yeah, I hear the critics pawing again. However, they are told that in STEEL SHOCK the inflationary use of this word fits the eye like the (steel) fist. The Dutch have with the singer at least one enthusiast in the band who lives Metal. Sure, the lyrics are overly cliched, but that suits the music that settles somewhere between bands like GRAVE DIGGER or WIZARD. Add a touch of US Metal and the sound cocktail by STEEL SHOCK is ready. The mixture of uptempo and midtempo numbers is very successful. One hears the band every second that she is fully behind what she is doing there. Songs like the opener "Shockwave Of Steel", "Metal Fire", "Night Of Steel", the BLACK SABBATH-heavy "Eyes Of Fire" or "Break Down The Walls" grab the listener the first time and leave the fists in shoot the height. Martjo skillfully plays with his string partner Lijon the balls and conjures up a different fine true-metal reef from the sleeve. The two-part guitar parts that are typical of True Metal are well-dosed on "For Metal To Battle", so there is no overburdening with this stylistic device. All in all, STEEL SHOCK are more playful than some of their genre colleagues, which proves not only the middle part of "Stand Tall". But that rarely everything is optimal in a debut, lies in the nature of things. Even STEEL SHOCK, although gifted musicians are at work, have to make a few prints. In addition to the high quality of the songs, "Ax Of Hatred" and "Ready To Rock (The Power Of Five)" unfortunately also have two songs on the album that can not quite keep up with the rest of the album. That's a pity, because with "All Hail To Metal" the plate is perfectly rounded. But you can overlook these small criticisms, because the rest of the album is so much fun.Successful debut of the Dutch combo so. Of course, the cross-border cover artwork of "For Metal To Battle" also fits the attitude of STEEL SHOCK. A nasty demon and nude girls. Metallerherz, what more do you want? The only thing really missing is the muscled, heroic barbarian. Then it would be perfect. Here the eighties are inhaled so deeply that it is a real pleasure. Friends of Teutonic steel should give STEEL SHOCK a chance.
