Ravenous was forged in the spring of 2016 in Calgary, Canada.Brainchild of lead vocalist R.A.V., known for his exploits leading Edmonton-based terrorist metal band Villainizer, Ravenous also features members of several other established Western Canadian metal bands Viathyn, Scythia, and Black Pestilence. Influences ranging from Thrash, Power, Black, and Progressive metal have come together to deliver heroic heavy metal anthems in the stylings of Manowar, Sabaton, Iced Earth, and Gravedigger.Rife with soaring vocals, thundering percussion, and shredding solos, the 'Eternal Hunger' EP was recorded and self-produced in December 2016, and features just a taste of what is to come from Ravenous. Pump your fist, bang your head, and roar your lungs out to show your hunger.
Album:
Ravenous is a Canadian power metal band and Hubris is their second full-length album. Their style follows a couple of directions. For the most part, they play at top speed with the drums driving the songs during the verse/chorus before handing off to the guitars for the lead breaks where the solos keep the pace at a frenetic level. Occasionally, they slow down to a mid-paced tempo (with an obligatory ballad), but all the songs feature catchy melodies and hooky vocal lines in abundance. Hubris reminds me of early Dragonforce (the faster numbers) and Orden Ogan (the mid-paced material) though the songwriting is a notch or two below those bands currently. This is a solid second album from Ravenous, who display significant upside, and fans of the aforementioned bands will want to give it spin.
