Album:

On November 4th, 2013, Linkin Park and Download Festival announced, "Linkin Park will be headlining next year’s Download Festival on Saturday June 14th, 2014 and performing HYBRID THEORY in its entirety."Chester: "We have been kicking around the idea of playing HYBRID THEORY for some time and the perfect opportunity is DOWNLOAD 2014. The legendary energy of the DOWNLOAD crowd is the apex of the rock experience and we are very excited to share this special night with them."Shortly after the announcement, #HybridTheory began to trend on social media worldwide. The band later admitted that if they did not agree to play Hybrid Theory in full, Download was going to ask another band to headline.Chester (Loudwire Interview): "That was an interesting situation that came up. We knew that this year marks the 15th anniversary of ‘Hybrid Theory’ [a demo version came out in 1999, while the album was properly released in 2000]. We wanted to do something special, so we were like, it’d be cool to do some small shows and just play ‘Hybrid Theory’ for some diehard fans. We were already starting to think about doing that. Then when we got the call from the promoters of Download. We've headlined Download several times so they wanted to do something special. They felt like ‘Hybrid Theory’ was a real important record and they came to us to see if we wanted to headline Download, but they thought it would be really great if you guys did something different because you’ve been here so often, would you be interested in playing ‘Hybrid Theory’ from beginning to end to celebrate that record on its 15th anniversary. And if you don’t, we’re probably going to ask someone else to headline because you guys were just here a few years ago. We were like, yeah — this is a great opportunity. Now we can do it in front of a huge audience, it’ll be real exciting. I can’t wait until we get to Download and we start ‘Papercut.’ Once that beat kicks in dude, I just have a feeling the crowd is going to fucking lose their mind. It’s funny, we play that song every night but I think in the context of people being able to hear it beginning to end, we’ve never done that before. A lot of these songs we haven’t played in 15 years. It’ll be a real fun night. Then to follow that up with some of the new stuff, it’ll be awesome."Advertised as the first time that the album was being played in full, we ran across a show in which the album was performed in full previously in 2001. In June 2001 on the US-to-Europe Tour, Linkin Park closed the tour with five shows in Europe - Copenhagen, Rock im Park (two shows), Rock am Ring, and a sold out show at London's Brixton Academy on June 4, 2001.Mike replied to our tweet saying, "But it was never performed front to back; we had 60 minute headline set times, and less than 40 minutes of album music, ha!" Download Festival was at least the second known time in which all songs on the album were performed at a show, but no more than the third. It was the first time in the band's history in which the album was performed in order start-to-finish. Additionally, the version of Cure For The Itch performed in 2001 was not a full version of the song and was always played abbreviated.

Line Up:

Chester Bennington: Vocals
Mike Shinoda: Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Keyboard
Brad Delson: Lead Guitar
Dave "Phoenix" Farrell: Bass Guitar, Samples on "Lost in the Echo"
Joseph Hahn: Turntables, Sampling, Programming
Rob Bourdon: Drums

Album:

One More Light is the upcoming seventh studio album by American rock band Linkin Park. It is scheduled to be released on May 19, 2017 through Warner Bros. Records and Machine Shop, following the 2014 album The Hunting Party..It is the first Linkin Park album to feature a title track. "Heavy" was the first single released from the album. The official music video for the song was released on March 9, 2017, by the band on YouTube. The album features guest appearances from Pusha T, Stormzy, and Kiiara, the last being the first female singer featured on a Linkin Park studio album. The album also includes Jon Green, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, Ross Golan, Michael Leary, Andrew Goldstein, blackbear, and Eg White as co-songwriters.One More Light was promoted by the band by various acoustic performances by Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda of the lead single at many promotional live events and interviews. A few of them included performances with Kiiara, Waxx, and Sofia Karlberg. The band had been writing and recording mostly in Los Angeles but also had a few sessions in London and Canada where they worked with a few songwriters. In Los Angeles, the band started working at the Larrabee Studios where they had worked for their previous album. After noticing the band needed a bit more space they shifted to Sphere Studios.Starting in the early 2016 the band decided, for the first time, to open up their process to fans through social media by doing live streams, posting pictures and videos of their day by day in the studio, and sending studio updates to their mailing list.In an interview with Billboard, Shinoda said "We've focused almost exclusively on songwriting, not on sound, not on genre, not on arrangement, on words and melodies. And that is something Rick [Rubin] has always told us to do years past and we never listened because we started always track first. Now we're writing songs and now we’re just starting to get into the style of that."While working with Justin Parker in London, Mike also learned a different approach to songwriting: to write without any sound in mind and, instead, write with meaning in mind. Instead of writing tracks piece by piece, the band wouldn't leave a session without having a song. It would all start as a conversation, and out of those the songs would build progressively from a chord progression to lyrics.

Album:

From Zero Digital Expanded Edition features the full album plus live versions of three From Zero songs recorded in Los Angeles, London and Paris, along with 46 pages of imagery, handwritten lyrics, and more. You may like LINKIN PARK music or not, but can’t deny this band created a unique sound. In September, Linkin Park’s comeback single The Emptiness Machine entered the UK singles chart at No 4. You could see that as an extraordinary state of affairs: an august metal band whose lead singer died seven years ago – recently replaced with the largely unknown Emily Armstrong.Beyond all the shock, controversy and messy discourse, one question remains: what does a Linkin Park without Chester Bennington sound like? And with a female singer?Well, for the most part, LINKIN PARK have read the room and played to their strengths, because their upcoming album “From Zero” is a taught, hook-laden and royally entertaining album that sonically bounces between just about every chapter of their career so far without ever wallowing in cheap nostalgia.Emily Armstrong’s voice fits the band like a glove, never directly imitating Chester’s style but still displaying the same levels of power and versatility that made him such a force. Whether delicately crooning on ‘Over Each Other’, which wraps searing ’80s synth-pop in arena-ready riffs and clattering drums, or her throat-scorching, fifteen-second scream on the propulsive ‘Heavy Is The Crown’, she makes it all sound effortless.Lyrically, ”From Zero” plays safely in the Linkin Park sandpit of vague but memorable, angst-laden hooks. Fans speculated that The Emptiness Machine could be a middle-fingered goodbye to Armstrong’s alleged Scientology links (“I only wanted to be part of something….Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be”), but it could just as easily be about a failed relationship.Singer & producer Mike Shinoda lamenting that he’s “Stuck on repetitions that are only hypothetical” amidst Cut The Bridge’s bouncy riffs and stuttered guitar licks reads like a frustrated take on Linkin Park’s hiatus, but we may never know. What is certain is that fans of Linkin Park’s heavier, more urgent side are well represented, whether via Casualty’s pleasantly surprising burst of buzzy punk rock or the pure nu metal rage of IGYEIH and Two Faced, the latter packing some vintage Joe Hahn scratches and a furious, pit-ready ‘Stop yelling at me!’ refrain. Not that From Zero isn’t packing some serious sheen elsewhere: Overflow is a marching, stadium-sized electro-pop anthem.Whether that’ll float your boat depends entirely on what you want from this record, but what’s in little doubt is that Shinoda and the band navigate these waters well and make these potentially disparate pieces fit snugly. Will it be all enough to silence the cynics? Only time will tell. What’s clear, at least, is that Linkin Park have crafted both an earnest tribute to their own legacy and a genuinely solid album worthy of their canon. The future suddenly looks brighter for LP. If you like this band, “From Zero” will make your day.

Line Up:

Emily Armstrong – vocals
Mike Shinoda – vocals, production
Brad Delson – guitar
Dave “Phoenix” Farrell – bass
Colin Brittain – drums
Joe Hahn – programming
