Bio:

Femme Fatale is an American hard rock band. Originally from Albuquerque, the band moved to Los Angeles and released one studio album before disbanding. Lead vocalist, Lorraine Lewis, restarted the band in 2013 with a new line-up.Femme Fatale was formed in 1987 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Later on that year, the band moved to Los Angeles and signed a recording contract with MCA Records after a well-received showcase. The band's self-titled debut album, released in 1988, peaked at No. 141 on the Billboard 200 the following year. MTV gave heavy airplay to the videos for "Waiting for the Big One" and "Falling in and out of Love", the band's two signature songs. The airplay helped the album to sell nearly 225,000 copies, but Femme Fatale was unable to match the popularity of other bands in the glam metal scene. The band saw their status at MCA shrink and the band's manager, Andrea Accardo, developed a rare brain cancer. Shortly after touring the world in support of Cheap Trick, recording was to commence on a new studio album, but ultimately it was never completed and the band dissolved in 1990.Since leaving Femme Fatale, Lorraine Lewis has recorded a few modestly successful solo albums in country, new-age, and other rock genres.Lewis competed on MTV's Remote Control in 1988, against Britny Fox's Dizzy Dean Davidson and Anthrax's Charlie Benante, who won.Guitarist Mazzi Rawd left the music industry and went on to get his PhD in Physics, and is now a Vice President in a Fortune 500 company.Guitarist Bill D'Angelo died of a heart attack in 2005, aged 43. The Albuquerque Tribune reported on March 26, 2006, that D'Angelo's death was due to methamphetamine misuse. In recent years, satellite radio and VH1 Classic have given the band's two signature songs a new life, with display on VH1 Classic's Metal Mania and the two main satellite networks' 1980s-themed stations. In 2013 Lorraine Lewis reformed the band with new line-up of Courtney Cox and Nita Strauss on guitars, Janis Tanaka on bass, Katt Scarlett on keyboards, Rachael Rine and Athena on drums.

Album:

In 2016, Lorraine Lewis surprised Rock audiences by releasing "One More For The Road", the unreleased demos that would have laid the groundwork for the second FEMME FATALE album. This FNA Records release is one that has long been awaited by fans of Lewis and her musical endeavors.Being a big fan of the first release for Lorraine Lewis and Femme Fatale, I was ecstatic to know that the world was finally going to be able to hear these recordings that have remained unheard for nearly three decades. The band sounds just as good as they did on their first record, but these songs are not “copycats”, in fact are much more elaborated, mature, showing a clear step forward in terms of songwriting. It is good to see that Femme Fatale decided to try to differentiate from their debut, and it is truly a shame that many of these songs never got to exist beyond the demos that were made. One thing that must be stressed as well is what was just said: these are demos. This is not strictly 'the unreleased second album' from the band, but rather the demos that would have been crafted and reworked to create a second album. As such, the sound quality is pretty rough and not full-blown produced, though easily listenable and enjoyable despite this. And while Lewis is the only member of the current Femme Fatale to take part in these recordings, the current version of the group has added many of the songs featured here to their setlists. There are straight-up rockers, hard 'n heavy songs, midtempo melodic tunes, and a little bit of everything in between as well, helping the album to feel fresh and enjoyable. We even get a surprise cover of “Piece of My Heart,” the song popularized by Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company back in the 60s! You can really tell that the band would have progressed substantially musically had they been allowed to complete the record proper and release it as they wished to. At 14 tracks, the release is a bit excessive; it makes one wonder if, had the band been able to finish the album, if it would have been narrowed down to the “best” songs of the lot. In either event, despite the somewhat overlong length, there really are not any weaknesses or boring moments to speak of.Femme Fatale wows audiences a second time with this long overdue release of lost recordings "One More For The Road". It is great to see the band is incorporating some of these songs into their current setlists; here is hoping we get a new album of original material from the band eventually as well.In the meantime, this release comes essential to Femme Fatale longtime fans, but all hard rock / melodic aficionados.
