Cynic is an American progressive rock/metal band—incorporating experimental music,alternative, metal and jazz fusion elements—founded in Miami, Florida and currently based in Los Angeles, California. Their first album, Focus, released on September 14, 1993, is widely regarded as a landmark release of the progressive metal genre. Cynic disbanded in 1994, but reunited in 2006, and released their second album on November 17, 2008.Traced in Air was released through French label Season of Mist, followed up by an EP titled Re-Traced on May 18, 2010 and an EP titled Carbon-Based Anatomy on Nov 11, 2011. Their next studio album will be titled, Kindly Bent to Free Us and is planned for release on February 14, 2014.

Cynic‘s 1993 debut album “Focus” has newly been re-mixed and remastered for an upcoming release as “ReFocus“. This revisited version of the influential progressive metal effort emerges in celebration of the album’s 30th anniversary and will be out on June 09th via Cynical Sphere.Currently you can experience the “ReFocus” version of the album’s opening track, “Veil Of Maya“, below. The group have also already began playing a series of anniversary shows celebrating the record.Vocalist/guitarist Paul Masvidal commented of this effort:“We are proud to present to you ReFocus, a renewed version of our beloved album Focus. ReFocus is entirely remixed by Warren Riker, and we are so thankful for all the people who have supported us and given us the opportunity to bring this work to life.”
