The Diamond Dogs is a Swedish rock band founded in Katrineholm during the early nineties by vocalist Sören 'Sulo' Karlsson and guitarist Anders 'Boba' Lindström.The line-up has changed several times throughout the bands career and has included members from bands such as The Hellacopters, Stefan Sundströms back-up band, Wilmer X, Patti Palladin, Dogs D'Amour, Nymphet Noodlers, Hedros & Hellberg and The Soundtrack Of Our Lives[2] however the band's music has always been rooted in 1970's rock.The band has also toured extensively with bands such as Hanoi Rocks, The Damned, Nazareth, Georgia Satellites, Ian Hunter and The Cult. The band has been especially successful in Italy with crowds of up to ten thousand attending some of their concerts.In 2002 the band teamed up with Swedish punk legend Lennart Eriksson or Fjodor as he was known during his time with Ebba Grön to record a track for a tribute album to Nationalteatern along with The Latin Kings frontman Dogge Doggelito.Currently the band is also recording all of their live shows throughout Spain which will result in a live album later this year.

Diamond Dogs, Swedish rock and roll band formed in 1992 are now back with their 10th full length album “Quitters & Complainers” that also includes a 70 minute long bonus live disc “Let’s Have It – Live in Bilbao“. The release is scheduled for August, 14 via Livewire/Cargo Records. The new video for the song ‘Silver Star Delight‘ can be viewed below.Diamond Dogs have over the years delivered countless hard rockin’ shows worldwide, they have also been on tour sharing stage with: Nazareth, Ian Hunter, The Damned, Hanoi Rocks, The Cult, Sensational Alex Harvey Band, The Quireboys, Dan Baird, among others.Members of Diamond Dogs also have associations with such fine artists as The Hellacopters, Johnny Thunders, The Solution, The Dogs D’amour, The Nomads, Lisa & the Lips, Ian Hunter and The Crunch. Singer Sulo Karlsson is also currently completing a vocal duet album collaboration with American singer Maria McKee. ‘Quitters & Complainers’ could easily be Diamond Dogs finest release to date. Classic good time rock n’ roll.

Following the recent news of an upcoming ‘best of’ package and vinyl re-issues of four classic albums, Sweden’s finest purveyors of glam slam boogie the Diamond Dogs are back with a new long-player of brand new music to whet the appetite.It seems you can’t keep a good band down, and four years after they called it quits, following the tragic death of saxophonist Magic Gunnarsson, original members Sulo and keyboard player Henrik “Honk” Widen decided it was time to get the band back together. Joining the duo are long-serving guitarist Lars Karlsson, fellow guitarist Martin Thomander, bassist Stefan Bellnas and Thomas Broman on the drums.While a revolving door of band members has come and gone over the years, the sound remains the same. Let’s just say, if you dig the cool as you like vintage rock ‘n’ roll of The Faces meets The Stones, then grab a Jack & Coke, drop the needle and sit back and enjoy!Now, when I say new music, all is not quite as it seems. If you were to purchase this album on vinyl then you could say side A is Diamond Dogs originals; recalling their rock ‘n’ roll roots. And then side B is their own tribute to Soul legend Sam Cooke; six cover versions of classic cuts from the Soul singer, reinterpreted in their own classic style.While their last few studio albums have been a bit patchy, this is a banger of an album from start to finish. Their trademark rock ‘n’ roll shuffles bring to mind a golden age of early 70’s British rock. Anyone from The Stones, Slade and Quo comes to mind at any given moment. You know the score.Opening song ‘Recall Rock ‘n’ Roll’ sets the bar high from the off and sees singer Sulo in introspective mood as the band fire on all cylinders behind him. “Let’s turn back time and make it roll!” he suggests before blasting into a euphoric chorus. The likes of ‘Valentina (Queen Of Broken Hearts)’ and ‘Heavy Swing’ have that classic Sulo chorus refrains in abundance. High energy rock ‘n’ roll, with a tinkling of the ivories and key changes that takes it up nicely to the climax. No one does Mott meets The Faces better.There’s a hint of sadness to the soulful balladry that ‘Singin’ With Elvis’ brings to the table. Sulo reminisces about times gone by and the ghosts of the past. “I walk down the street where we all used to meet, but it was all dark and quiet” he sings in an almost broken rasp. Swathes of Hammond organ and great, Stones inspired backing harmonies make this essential Dogs material.The uber-cool ‘There Is A Fire Down There’ has a Black Crowes swagger, with trademark killer backing vocals and a wild n’ crazy slide guitar solo. No one does rock ‘n’ roll rapture quite like the Diamond Dogs do these days.The album is split down the middle by ‘Soul Folks’, a re-recording of a Sulo original that first appeared on his album ‘Hear Me Out’. Sulo’s own tribute to his soul hero that actually comes across like an Exile-era Stones outtake. Cracking stuff indeed.Now, the Sam Cooke side of things includes a bunch of guests. First up, we have Quireboys frontman Spike lending his gravelly tones to the good time rock ‘n’ roll of ‘Good Times’. Handclaps, sax and heavenly, female backing vocals bring the soul and help get the party started.The good time boogie of ‘Don’t Fight it, Feel It’ and the 12 bar blues stomp of ‘Somebody Have Mercy’ are delivered in fine Diamond Dogs style, you wouldn’t even guess they were old Soul songs on first listen.They breathe new life into ‘Keep Movin’ On’. Faster and more uplifting, that killer chorus introduces a song that sounds like it has always been in your head. Hellacopters main man Nicke Andersson adds his dulcet tones to this banger.Thunder frontman Danny Bowes duets with Sulo on ‘Nothing Can Change This Love’. With the lyrical sentiment and the sparse musicianship, it retains the soulful feel of the original, but it’s given the Diamond Dogs treatment. A rendition that sounds like it was recorded 50 years ago, not six months ago.‘Sugar Dumpling’ closes the album and is my favourite of these cover versions. Featuring Swedish rapper Papa Dee, they take to another level entirely. To me, it comes on like The Dave Clarke Five meets The Archies, classic 60’s pop and a surprise finale. What a tune! ‘Recall Rock ‘n’ Roll And The Magic Soul’ will not only satisfy Diamond Dogs fan who have been craving more material, it will also remind those who forgot exactly why we missed them in the first place.Ok, so it may not be an album full of original material. But as the title suggests, this new album is a throwback to the roots and the influences of what made Diamond Dogs one of Sweden’s greatest musical exports. And that is something we should all celebrate.

One of the current most dynamic stage performers, Sweden’s classic rockers DIAMOND DOGS are sitting pretty nicely on top of their game. With the boogie piano and the delightfully sleazy / glam overall feel, they sound like they’re having an absolute blast.
The band’s new double album, ”Slap Bang Blue Rendezvous”, will see a January 21, 2022 release. The record was produced and mixed by Tomas Skogsberg, and the songs are all composed, jammed, arranged, and recorded at Sunlight Studio (Gräddö, SWE) mainly during the summer months of 2020.The group has had countless collaborations with the inimitable producer throughout the years. During varying periods of time, the band members come and stay in the studio’s cottage annex, with sessions, mind-expanding, forest walks, and rock ‘n’ roll tales around the clock. Their common love for the golden years of Mott makes them inseparable.After making demo tapes with star producer Max Martin (Britney Spears) in 1991, Diamond Dogs shortly thereafter went into legendary Sunlight Studio with producer Tomas Skogsberg. The first single “Blue Eyes Shouldn’t Be Cryin” from the debut album Honked, launched in 1993, made its way onto rotation on MTV’s classic hard rock show Headbangers Ball, and it became the start of a successful journey that eventually took the group to worldwide cult status.And this time, 30 years after it all started, Diamond Dogs have yet another time returned to Skogsberg to make their 14th LP. A 24-original songs double album.Diamond Dogs are in a league of their own. The band has confidently been releasing classy rock albums since the early ’90s, and also has a large reputation for their energetic live shows, which often stretch out to over three hours. Fans will be hard-pressed to find many bands revisiting this style of classic rock or doing it in such style.The Swedish classicists make no bones about their mission in life, to keep the flame of old-fashioned, bluesy, riff-driven rock and roll burning. They have been special guests on tours with Nazareth, The Damned, The Cult, Hanoi Rocks, Iggy Pop, and Ian Hunter tours. And having toured their emotional home UK several times, headlining the premium venues, the English music press nowadays speaks about the Swedes as sounding more British than the Brits themselves.”Slap Bang Blue Rendezvous” is a release for kids of the ’70s. From the top, it conjures up the spirits of the precious glam rock era. The warm atmosphere brings the air of the golden age, and the energy of the songs and performance give a promise of rock music for the new generation.There’s a lot of material here, however most songs around the 3 and a half minute mark. Just classic rock ‘n roll from the heart.

The recording finds Diamond Dogs delivering their signature blend of swaggering rock and roll, soulful melodies, and timeless songwriting. Fueled by infectious hooks, driving rhythms, and a deep appreciation for real classic rock influences, the album balances raw energy with polished musicianship.By 2026, ”Similar Shakes, Different Distortion” doesn’t really need to be to garner year-end best in show plaudits because the band has seen off the opposition, and stands almost alone as ‘proper’ rock n’roll’s last true testimony to the old ways. On the new songs DIAMOND DOGS return to the motherlode of honking blues, gritty r n’ b and soulful pub rock to create another bleary-eyed masterpiece of paeans to lost love, empty bottles and above all, the redemption to be found through the power of rock n’ roll.Standout track Brass Monkey Weather is the album in microcosm, and if you’ve never heard this band before then there’s no better place to start than here, as frontman Sören ‘Sulo’ Karlsson and company romp through a delicious Stones / Faces interface that’s impossible not to dance to.A cynic might call it derivative, nothing more, nothing less. But a cynic would doubtless miss the sheer, gut-wrenching sincerity with which the song is delivered. This isn’t nostalgia, it’s not a cash grab designed to relieve the misty eyed of their hard earned – it’s an honest attempt to link to the past, to keep memories of the old Gods alive and deliver a rocking good time into the bargain. And it works on every level imaginable – but especially the duck’s-arse-tightness of the instrumental workout that closes the track.Maverick in a Crowd might well be Sulo coming’ over all autobiographical, but I think we can forgive a man with as many stories to tell as him for that, whilst My Heart’s A Cold Case and Stubborn Pony both land beautifully in the folder marked ‘quintessential Dogs’ – and both are worth the price of admission on their own.So there you have it. Consummate professionals often end up sounding a little stiff, a little stilted as they struggle to translate the quicksilver in their soul into living, breathing songs; That’s a criticism you could never level at Diamond Dogs, and there’s an awful lot of living and breathing to enjoy on this splendid album.Wonderful listening once more.
