Vanir is one of Denmark’s most well know and prominent Viking Metal bands and has, since the band’s inception, released five full length albums and has their 6th album Sagas out early 2022. Vanir plays a melodic death-metal infused brand of Viking Metal.The themes of the band’s lyrics are found amongst Norse mythology as well as historical interpretations of the deeds of the Vikings. From the halls of Valhalla to the Germanic battlefields with their bloody battles and fierce warriors, the band’s music has been put together, without compromise, with a fascination with our common origins, and the blood spilled throughout history.

Coming off of their second album ‘Onwards Into Battle’, the Vanir of 2014 is set to give praise to the Glorious Dead throughout the ages of man. After experiencing a line-up change in 2013, Vanir remains dedicated to writing and producing Viking and Battle themed metal with influences from a number of melodic metal genres, though with a sharper edge than ever before!Vanir has, over the years, played many shows in their home country of Denmark, as well as in the surrounding countries of Sweden,Norway and Germany. They seek to ignite the crowd in a raucous bash of metal and a celebration of warriors throughout history, and a highly energetic live show has always been a prime focus of the way in which Vanir approaches their music. This has not changed with their exploration of a more brutal sound on their most recent album “The Glorious Dead”, and Vanir continues to play both national and international shows and festivals.Going into the future, Vanir will continue to seek to thrill crowds with their unique blend of melodic death metal and the traditional war instrument of Scottish highland Bagpipes. Album:

Danish Viking melodic death metal warriors Vanir are back in 2022 with Sagas.​ These warriors have released five well received albums to date and Sagas doesn’t disappoint. Like previous albums, Sagas, their sixth release, spans various Viking and Nordic related themes, however Vanir have sneaked in a J.R.R. Tolkien based song “Battle of Middle-Earth, in what appears to be a dedication to one of the most important fantasy writers in history.​On this release we see epic melodic and a fierce soundscape highlighted through the vocals and guitars on all12 tracks. ​There really are no surprises here.​ Vanir provide the listener with epic Viking metal and storytelling.​ Their approach to this style of music is a bit different than bands such as Ensiferum, and Turisas, the emphasis is more in your face power and aggressive guitar licks, laced with screaming Viking vocals with less emphasis on keyboard melodies. ​I would equate their sound to be similar to Amon Amarth, but less of the commercial elements. Favorite tracks thus far would be “Battle of Middle-Earth”, “See The Dragons Ride”, “Dødsfærd” and “Andvari’s Curse”.​ For fans of Manegarm, Unleashed, and Einherjer.​

The record revolves around the timeless theme of fate - spun from war, from the choices of humankind, and from the consequences that have shaped our world. As a mirror of our own time, where decisions carry the weight of future destinies, “Wyrd” invites the listener into stories of downfall and triumph, of lives lost and victories won.The visual core of the album is brought to life by artist David Troest, whose dramatic cover depicts the Winged Hussar, one of history’s most fearsome war machines. The scene is the legendary Battle of Vienna in 1683, where the Polish cavalry forced the Ottoman Empire to retreat, halting its expansion into Europe. This clash of civilizations forms the backdrop for the song “Never Surrender”, told through the eyes of those who defended Vienna from invasion.But “Wyrd” is more than just a historical album. It is a musical journey into humanity’s struggle with power, destiny, and the eternal conflicts over survival and dominion.
