Bio:

Novembers Doom is an American death-doom band from Chicago, currently signed to Prophecy Productions. Along with Evoken and Rigor Sardonicous, Novembers Doom is one of the earliest American death-doom bands still active today. The band started out in 1989 as a death-thrash metal group called Laceration. The band began changing their sound towards a heavier, slower style, at which point the members felt the name Novembers Doom better suited their current direction. By 1992, the band's early demos were getting noticed in the metal underground for their dark, heavy music (such as the "Scabs" demo, re-released as part of the Amid Its Hallowed Mirth remastered CD released in 2008).The band added female backing vocals and continued thickening their brand of metal. An early 7-inch record deal with Regress Records, of Italy, allowed Avantgarde Records to hear the band. This recording was heavy, moody, dark and despairing. The two songs would lead to the release of the band's full-length debut CD, Amid Its Hallowed Mirth on Avant Garde and Nuclear Blast in early 1995.Shortly thereafter, the band added Jim Bresnahan of Contagion, Cianide, and Kommandant, and recorded a new two-song demo, Her Tears Drop. A compilation track for Pavement Music followed. By 1996, vocalist Paul Kuhr and female vocalist Cathy Jo Hejna were the only two original members left.In 1997, a new lineup of Novembers Doom released the EP For Every Leaf That Falls. The disc was well received. This led to the band signing a new deal and releasing their second full-length album, Of Sculptured Ivy and Stone Flowers, with Martyr Music Group. This new offering received good reviews, media attention and even high praise in print from peers My Dying Bride and Moonspell. In May 2000, Novembers Doom entered the recording studio to record the follow-up to Of Sculptured Ivy and Stone Flowers. The band recorded The Knowing with Studio One's Chris Wisco. The CD is an extension of previous material with steps in new directions. In July 2000, Novembers Doom officially became a member of Dark Symphonies. They signed a deal with Martyr Music Group to include the band on its roster, releasing The Knowing. With their third full-length release receiving praise, and a European licensed release of the CD through Pavement Music, Novembers Doom secured themselves more attention.

Album:

NOVEMBERS DOOM return with their twelfth full-length album, which is entitled "Major Arcana". Following six long years after their acclaimed latest opus "Nephilim Grove" (2019), the American dark metal stalwarts have raised the stakes even higher by creating a conceptual album that thematically draws inspiration from tarot and divination. This overarching theme reflects in the artwork and design of "Major Arcana" as well as in the lyrical storytelling throughout the album. Founded in 1989 in Chicago, Illinois by vocalist Paul Kuhr, NOVEMBERS DOOM have continued to grow and evolve over more than three decades. Initially emerging as one of the leaders of American death doom, their debut album "Amid Its Hallowed Mirth" in early 1995 set the band firmly on a dark musical course. Over the following years, they have gradually refined and developed a style that they have coined "dark metal". NOVEMBERS DOOM's mastery of seamlessly blending their death metal and doom roots with progressive, folk, and classic rock influences has allowed the band to grow and change in fresh and surprising ways, while always retaining their signature feel and atmospheres that have remained a constant throughout the band's career. From the hauntingly ethereal vibes of the opening track, 'June', through brutally crushing songs like 'Ravenous', as well as the epic sadness and yearning of tracks like 'Mercy' and 'Bleed Static' to the frenetically energetic hooks found on 'The Fool' and 'Dusking Day', their twelfth opus witnesses NOVEMBERS DOOM covering a wide range of sounds and emotions. Get ready to hear "Major Arcana" and to see it unleashed onto an eagerly anticipating world!
