Year : 2020
Style : Heavy Metal
Country : United States
Audio : 320 kbps + all scans
Size : 101 mb

Bio:

Formed in the sweltering summer of 2018 in the wake of an alcohol-fueled love of the sounds of classic heavy metal and tomes of roleplaying past, Throne Of Iron is here to bring the wood paneled basement to YOU.Originally a solo project of Tucker Thomasson (Thorr-Axe), Throne Of Iron released their 2018 Demo, with Tucker performing all instruments. The demo took off on Bandcamp, gaining the attention of writers on the site, BangerTV, and eventually No Remorse Records, who approached Tucker with a contract.Thinking quick, Tucker gathered forces in the form of Corwin Deckard on guitar, his longtime drummer friend from Thorr-Axe, Jacob Lett, and the cleric Evan Pruitt on bass. The four immediately descended into the basement to forge their debut full length, which is now in its final stages of formation, set to be released on No Remorse this spring.

Album:

Fantasy lyrics in heavy metal are often treated with either absolute seriousness or ironic parody, but Throne of Iron’s attitude would be better described as ‘nonchalant.’ The group’s D&D campaign theming has an inherent air of self-aware silliness but is executed with concentrated effort that avoids too much overthinking. To quote the response that is given to the quite literal call to adventure that starts off the song of the same name: “eh, fuck it.”Eh, fuck it indeed.Getting into the music itself, Adventure One honestly reminds me more of Anvil or Accept than the prevalently namedropped Manilla Road. The latter’s influence is certainly felt, but the vocals are more in line with Lips’ warbled howl than Mark the Shark’s wizened wisp while the chunky riffing and anthemic pacing is rooted in classic Wolf Hoffmann tradition. The setup is amateurish compared to their heroes, the vocals will especially be a point of contention for some listeners, but it works well when you consider that it’s based on literal role-playing.Speaking of which, there is considerable commitment to establishing an escapist atmosphere throughout. The scope is inevitably broader than their shorter releases hinted as “A Call to Adventure” and “Lichspire” feature a couple spoken segments while softer intros pop up on “Past the Doors of Death” and “The Allure of Silver.” From there, the synth work on “Wish” makes for a pleasant closing number, and a delightfully reverb-drenched production job keeps everything cohesive. The songwriting also goes a long way in ensuring upbeat, epic metal fun. The sequencing is well executed as “A Call to Adventure” starts things off in a welcoming fashion, and “Past the Doors of Death” makes for an early climax without overshadowing the rest of the album. I can also appreciate the charge on “The Fourth Battle of the Ash Plains.” I must admit that “The Power of Will” can feel a little redundant when it’s back to back with the equally upbeat “Lichspire,” but both tracks are quite serviceable.Overall, Throne of Iron’s first album showcases a great deal of raw potential. The band already has more personality than most of their peers in the NWOTHM scene, and they have the songwriting chops to back up their aesthetic. There are certain aspects that would benefit from some extra polish, but one can imagine the group having nerd culture appeal that goes beyond most in the metal sphere. There’s an adventure to be had here, even if it’s just with a couple friends in your mom’s basement.

Size : 106 mb

Album:

After 5 long years, the second THRONE OF IRON full – length album is upon us. After 2020’s Adventure One, we now have in our hands, lo and behold, Adventure Two! As evident by the title, the band delves in the familiar themes of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), tabletop gaming and general fantasy adventuring once again. And they do so even more successfully than last time.As the album’s opener, Denied, kicks in, the listener is once again reminded of the traits that make THRONE OF IRON great. There is a definitive retro feeling, yet it carries none of the pretentiousness one sometimes comes across in the nwothm movement. The guitars are prevalent in the mix, in the songwriting and they are as heavy as they should be. Last but not least, the old school vocals. A love letter to the more unrefined heavy metal vocalist, they bring the entire vibe together. The Oath, the first single released for this record, is another great showcase of the band’s strong points. It boasts a great main riff and it goes out powerfully as well. The accompanying video clip also represents THRONE OF IRON beautifully. A vintage heavy metal and D&D aesthetic, with respect to the era, but also without taking themselves too seriously. This is supposed to be FUN, and the video wonderfully displays that.As mentioned beforehand, the band’s love of D&D runs rampant in this record as well, with some of the songs even named after spells from the game (Divine Smite, Detect Evil). The band is also not shy about adding long instrumental preludes to a couple of the songs (The Final Rage, The Ninth Level) making for a more interesting listening experience. Finally, in the press release for this album, THRONE OF IRON warned us that the songs are “faster, heavier, louder and meaner” than anything they’ve written before. Boy let me tell you, they were not lying. Case and point the in your face Detect Evil, flexing blazing guitars and an aggressive take on the vocals, as well as its following track, City of Brass.THRONE OF IRON might not take themselves too seriously, but they’re definitely serious about their music. One can tell that there is a lot of work behind this release and that hard work has definitely paid off. Their sophomore album being even better than their debut, THRONE OF IRON loudly announce that they are here to stay.THRONE OF IRON – Adventure Two will be released by No Remorse Records on March 7th 2025.
