Bio:

The heavy metal band Ravage began as the idea of two young brothers from Boston MA, USA. The two, whom fans would come to know as Al Ravage and Eli, wished to form a band that could bring bombastic heavy metal back to prominence and crush the insipid alterna-grunge music craze of the mid-90's. Though the barely-highschool aged rockers had mighty ambitions when they played their first gig in 1996, they quickly learned that Rome was not built in a day, and Ravage had to endure endless line-up changes while honing their sound and forging their way through the local underground metal scene. Rough demos, bootlegs and countless shows began to pay some dividends as the band gained a cult following. Ravage soon reached a level of international acclaim with the self-release of their 2003 'Curse Of Heaven' EP. The EP sold out quickly, and the band was signed to Germany's Karthago Records to release their first full-length album in 2005. Monetary issues, further line-up problems and internal strife plagued the self-financed recording which was well received by some for it's strong songs, but was often overlooked for it's weak production value. Following the release, Al, Eli, and long-time guitarist Nick Izzo (who had joined the band in 2001), put together a new line-up with local bass basher Howie 'The Mosh Pig' Snow, and drum smasher GTB who had been working with Eli on a side-project. The new line-up was invited to play at Germany's Swordbrother's festival in 2006 where the band put on a raucous display for thrilled fans who came from all over Europe. Upon their return home, the band began recording their second full-length album "The End Of Tomorrow". The next two years would see the band in and out of the studio as they completed 17 tracks including a cover of Warlock's "Cold Cold World" which was released on a Warlock Tribute album by Pure Steel Records. Ravage chose 6 of the other songs to comprise the "Freedom Fighter" EP which the band self-released in order to find a new label. With the new recording evidencing musical leaps and bounds in both song-writing and production, Ravage set out to find a cover artist who would do justice to their work. The band soon announced that they had secured the talents of the one and only master of metal cover art Ed Repka - best known for his work with MEGADETH and DEATH. Ravage then signed with California-based Metal Blade Records to release the new CD. Ravage's new album seamlessly intertwines the sounds of New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, late 80's American Thrash Metal and late 90's European Powermetal to showcase the band's signature style. The album is sure to be enjoyed by metal maniacs young and old as it blends the soaring vocal and guitar melodies of Iron Maiden and Helloween with the raw power of thrashers like Testament and Kreator, presented in a crisply modern production-style courtesy of producer Peter Rutcho, the mastermind behind the band VOMITRON. "The End Of Tomorrow" was released on August 18th, 2009 and is available in stores!

Album:

To be or not to be? A comeback or just a reprise? These are the questions. It has been almost a decade since the first time that I came to witness the true Heavy Metal power of the traditional US devotees, RAVAGE. But after 2009, presenting a sophomore album that was quite great, which also had the close attention of Metal Blade Records, poof, the band went underground, lost without a trace.I guess that last year was a sort of a turn of the tide for Al Ravage and his mates, and the band already issued a cut from this here release. When I received the promo I thought to myself how awesome will it be to listen to something new from these guys after all this time. Well I was in an error. RAVAGE does have something but it is not new. It is a sort of reliving the band with a look to the future, a re-recording of their debut album, issued originally in 2005. Better sound, better musicianship, the works and all independently. Believe me when I say that it didn't tire.RAVAGE has been all about melodies and pedal to the Metal speeding, material written with good vibe and energies that resulted in tightness and a classic Metal feeling. IRON MAIDEN is without a doubt their primary influence, but you can also add in other European giants such as HELLOWEEN and RUNNING WILD to the canister. Other than the drums’ production, everything sounded strong and right on the edge of your face with a wholesome of attitude, especially the guitar playing quality achieved greatness. Catchiness has its virtues in particular if done in the MAIDEN path.I haven't listened to the RAVAGE’s debut in years and this release served as a wonderful reminder. “The Wicked Way” was the first to have my head spinning around, letting the nostalgia right in for a coffee to talk about the old days. “Curse Of Heaven” created a sort of a sing-along but battered even harder with its riffs and massive soloing. “The Wasteland” made sure that no old school stone was left unturned. Not too aggressive but showing fists of leather and spikes with brash of amazing melodies. This debut re-recording is a fine attempt of the band to keep its name out there, it is a good record indeed, yet I am waiting for fresh stuff, new material out of these guys’ burning minds.

Album:

This Boston born crew are veterans in heavy metal and are a force to be reckoned with on the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal scene. The first three tracks of the coming new record shows why you need to know their name.Coming out of Boston, MA, Ravage has been carrying the torch for heavy metal since the mid 1990’s. With 3 full length albums, several EP’s, and many live entries to their credit, they have made a name for themselves. Touring support of many heavy metal heroes has proven they have the skill to bring their powerful music to the stage and capture the attention of audiences across the globe. On April 19th, 2024, they will release their 4th full legnth album “Spider on the World”. With the release of the first three singles, they have shown their prowess and experience in the genre. Co-founders, and brothers, Al Ravage and Eli Firicano are vocals and guitar, respectively. Joining them are Nick Izzo (guitar), Tommy G (bass), and Toni Belchior (drums). This line up delivers a formidable and ferocious sound that is everything fans want. It’s approachable for new fans looking for something to dive into and has enough hooks and leads to satisfy even the hardest of fans looking for the best.So far, there have been three crushing tracks released and they show the band has range and skills. Going through these tracks shows that Ravage is intent on leaving a heavy legacy on the metal landscape. The first track released is “Manmade Ice Age” and it’s a speed metal delight. The riffs are tight, and the band isn’t slowing down for anything. When this one gets going, there are echoes of Saxon and Judas Priest are welcome and appreciated. The song charges ahead and is topped off with a red-hot face melting solo. This is a classic speed metal treat that rips from start to finish.Next, the band released the single “Ravage in Peace”, which opens aggressively like an up-tempo classic metal anthem. It’s a bone crushing juggernaut that features a bass line like a fire breathing engine driving the whole thing forward. Yet another solo drops turbo charged guitar magic on the listener. Finally, “Spider on the World” has been unleashed as the third single. The song immediately opens strong and charges ahead like otherworldly steeds galloping over the plains. This is an epic sounding song that immediately calls to mind hints of the grandiose elements of Queensryche and the striking elements of many power metal bands. This is easily a personal favorite so far. There’s a lot to like here with this trio of tunes. Ravage unleashes their 2024 assault with a set of tracks that demonstrate their ability to write quality songs, and that they are serious about keeping the spirit of metal alive. In welcome news, they indicate that there will be forthcoming live shows to support the record. If this band can translate the power and glory of the songs we’ve seen so far, this is going to be a wild ride. They’ve paid their dues, honed their skills, and stood the test of time. Ravage is set to have a strong year and future with this release. Support their music and look for them to tour near you soon!
