Steve Thomson - Everyone Loves A Winner (1990)

Year : 1990
Style : Melodic Hard Rock , AOR
Country : Switzerland
Audio : 320 kbps + all scans
Size : 100 mb
Bio:
Swiss Melodic Hard Rock singer from Stallikon ZH, won the "Prix Walo" in 1987. Active until 1995.Born like René Zenklusen in Switzerland, singer Steve Thomson was part of many local bands.Mercury Records saw the potential and signed Steve as solo artist. After a couple of successful European singles, Mercury sent Thomson to America to record a debut album with Bob Marlette (Jeff Paris, David Lee Roth, John Farnham) as producer and songwriter. With songs written by Marlette, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Desmond Child, Michael Bolton (Steve does a cover of his hit ‘Everybody Is Crazy’) and with top class musicians such as Tim Pierce (guitar), Stevie Salas (guitar), Denny Fongheiser (drums) and a then unknown Sheryl Crow (backing vocals) among others, they created a wonderful late ’80s Melodic Rock / AOR album. In 1988, Swiss singer René Zenklusen released his self-titled debut album under the stage name STEVE THOMSON on Mercury Records. The album was recorded at Powertrax Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Bob Marlette (who has worked with JEFF PARIS, DAVID LEE ROTH, QUIET RIOT, BLACK SABBATH, among others). The studio musicians were Bob Marlette (guitar, keyboards, bass), Denny Fongheiser (drums), Tim Pierce (guitar), Stevie Salas (guitar), and Sheryl Crow (backing vocals). The song material was written by Bob Marlette, Vinnie Burns, Michael Bolton, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, and Desmond Child, among others. This should make it clear what musical direction the 11 songs take. On his debut album, STEVE THOMSON offers a successful blend of AOR and melodic rock with wonderfully catchy tunes.Several singles were released from the debut album, which were very successful in America, Europe, and Switzerland. In 1989, Steve Thomson's debut album was re-released with a different cover under the title “Matter Of Time,” and the CD version also included two additional covers and the bonus track “Europe.” In 1990, Steve Thomson released his second studio album, "Everyone Loves A Winner." The 11 songs were recorded at the legendary Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands and produced by Joey Balin. Thomson also enlisted Chris Egger (keyboards), John Roggio (guitar), bassist Greg Smith (TED NUGENT, RAINBOW, ALICE COOPER), and Ricky Anthony Parent (drums) as studio musicians.Joey Balin plays acoustic guitar on two tracks. The album features a respectful cover of Nazareth's "Dream On," while the other songs were composed by Joey Balin and Steve Thomson. Musically, the album offers very accessible and easy-listening AOR with saccharine melodies and commercial ballads.
Album:
The second album by a melodic hard rock singer from Switzerland, released in 1990. Like his debut album, it features top-notch melodic hard rock. A hidden gem. It includes a cover of the famous song “Dream On” by NAZARETH. This is Steve Thomson's best album, and indeed one of the best Melodic Hard-Rock/AOR albums of the early 90's. "Hot Cherie" is, to me, the best track (although it's a cover of a Streetheart classic, which Danny Spanos also did). But listen to "Walk Like a Man", "Everyone Loves a Winner" and "All Through the Night", and you'll conclude there's some fine music being played here. I would compare this to Jimmy Harnen's "Can't Fight the Midnight" and White Heat's "We Never Heard of you Either".By the way, Hardline also covered "Hot Cherie", but Steve's version is the most melodic, as it contains great keyboards from start to finish. Track 6, "Dream on", is another cover (originaly played by Nazareth).
