The band Fire Dept. was from Louisville, Kentucky, US.The band features some catchy, melodic AOR/hard rock.Only one album in discography "Things Are Tough All Over" (1990) through Pineapple Productions.Lead singer and chief songwriter Steve Steele quickly went about his business of establishing a tight bond with his fans.They have reformed for a few shows but nothing is in the works for either reissue or a new disc.Like all bands they have moved on with there life and most are totally against the music industry.I have to agree a lot of bands did get the shaft were promised big bucks by record industry suits and never was to be.A shame these guys I think could have been huge. So many bands like them though.

This is the only full-length rare album released by the American hard rock band Fire Dept. Among albums by hard rock bands, it undoubtedly ranks among the top tier in both rarity and sheer quality. Just listening to the opening track “Piledriver” alone will leave you with an unstoppable rush of excitement. The second track, “Here I Go (Back In Love),” is also a fine piece, featuring a catchy, approachable melody that leaves a strong impression. While a bluesy track is interspersed midway, the entire album is flawless, holding its own against major-label releases with no filler tracks. The cover design is high-class, and the back cover is simple yet effective.Material varies between straight ahead melodic hard rock and some more blues influenced tunes.Great vocals by Steele and some adroit guitar work by Allan Needham make this a fine addition to any collection.At times, they remind me of bands like Rock Blvd., Friction, Blind Date and Rock Candy, although not exactly at that same level. I'm sure this CD is Likely to be as rare as the sought after Rock Blvd though and there's a number of collectors who would love to look up and see it sitting on their shelf !!
