Founded in 1986, German Thrash-heads ACCU§ER became weighty players on the international scene with albums such as „Who Dominates Who“ (1989) or Repent (1992) and songs rife with both technical and compositional pyrotechnics.Right from the beginning, the band established themselves as an original imprint amongs their American brethren from the San Francisco Bay Area as well as fellow countrymen Kreator and Destruction, a fact cemented not least because of collaborations with Testament-/Anthrax-producer Alex Perialis or Industrial-pioneers Die Krupps.ACCU§ER became renowned for their highly energetic performances with capacities such as Motörhead, Paradise Lost and Overkill before it was time to spread out stylistically with Reflections“(1994) and „Taken by the Throat“(1995), both of which became more aggressive and groove-laden.In 1996, the band took a backseat … till 2008.ACCU§ER are back, although they actually never disbanded. Under the monicker Scartribe, they've constantly been around studios and venues up to their glorious return, firing on all cylinders.May 2010 sees the release of „Agitation“, a head-on recourse to classy Thrash-riffs, melodic leads and fiery solos , topped off with charismatic vocals and heartfelt lyrics addressing social injustice. Strengthened by the Scartribe-allies Frank Kimpel on bass and drummer Oliver Fechner, veterans Frank Thoms and Rene Schütz were set on taking the stage with the likes of Heathen, Sadus and Grave, not to forget festivals such as Thrash Assault and Way Of Darkness.With enthusiastic feedback from all over the world, ACCU§ER had tasted blood and started writing another album, which was to be produced by Martin Buchwalter (Destruction, Perzonal War, Suidakra et al.) and released in 2011. Now with „Dependent Domination“ in stores and comrade-in-arms Uwe Schmidt replacing Rene Schütz.After successfull shows in 2011 with Forbidden, Death Angel and a performance at Wacken Open Air, the band is busy again to promote the current release Dependent Domination.In september 2012 a short tour with our friends CONTRADICTION is coming up, not to forget some shows with Sepultura in summer.In october 2012 ACCU§ER finished the recordings of the new album "DiaboliC" at Gernhart Studio produced by Martin Buchwalter. DiaboliC Release: April , 12th 2013.In July 2013 Uwe Schmidt left the band for health and time reasons. Dennis Rybakowski joins ACCU§ER.

When a band decides to release an eponymous album a full 12 LPs deep into their career, and more than 3 decades since their debut outing, it can be rightly inferred that something more than just business as usual is afoot. For their part, the German thrash quartet Accuser have tended to be regarded as among the more Bay Area-leaning adherents of the Teutonic scene, often drawing comparisons to the likes of Metallica rather than the darker and nastier fair common to Sodom, Kreator and Destruction. The career trajectory following the release of their 1987 debut The Conviction has been an exercise in progression that largely mirrored the mainline conventions of the times, including a more experimental sound as the 80s drew to a close, followed by the adoption of a more groove-based approach as the 90s wore on. Recent years have seen this outfit drawing closer to the faster, but also more modernized sound that was ushered in by offerings like Exodus’ Tempo Of The Damned, featuring a more compressed and massive production approach as its chief point of separation from the old ways.Relative to their output since their late 2000s reunion, Accuser takes a healthy degree of influences from the older guard that have been continually expanding upon the modern thrash sound, drawing perhaps the greatest deal of comparison to the most recent offerings of Heathen, Annihilator and I.N.C.’s Terrible Things. The return of long-running, on again off again lead guitarist Rene Schutz has definitely had an impact on things, as the stylistic approach here is far more kinetic and frenzied when compared with the still largely groove-oriented sound that permeated much of their 2010s output following Schutz’s early exit. Likewise, the degree of technical flair and melodic intrigue at play in the guitar work often finds itself going beyond the signature anthem-like passages of Xentrix and often finds itself in full blow Forbidden territory. All the while, one can’t help but notice that after about 34 years of punishment both in studio and on the road, front man Frank Thoms’ signature blend of old James Hetfield gruff and current day Chuck Billy rage has lost none of its punch.If nothing else, this outfit’s greatest strength has been their tendency to get right to the point rather than engaging in drawn out introductions, and this album proves to be no exception. Leading the pack are a fair of compact, high energy bursts of thrashing excellence with a tall order of guitar showmanship on the side in “Misled Obedience” and “Phantom Graves”. Similarly short lengths yet powerful offerings such as “Rethink” push the envelope a bit further and almost veers into all out tech thrashing territory after the early Annihilator mode and superimposes some dissonant, almost death/thrash-like tremolo leads and disturbing harmonic passages in that almost sound akin to something that Vektor might employ. On the other side of the equation are some more drawn out offerings such as the epic semi-ballad “Pyschocision” and the slower grooving anthem “Be None The Wiser” that rely more upon atmosphere yet are also fairly intricate. But for the most part, this is an album defined by pummeling, mosh pit-friendly mayhem with a lot of detailing like “The Eliminator” and “A Cycle’s End”.From start to finish, this album speaks to a band that has been revitalized both by the return of one of the better guitar players to shred the fret board in Germany, and perhaps to an equal degree by the challenges posed by the ongoing circumstances of the current year. It’s the best thing they’ve done since the departure of Schutz following the 2010 release of Agitation, and is among the best things done by this band since the close of the 1980s. It leans a tad bit closer to their vintage sound from the aforementioned period relative to what was put out during and following the 1990s, but it is still presented as a modernized thrashing beast comparable to what most of the big names of yesteryear have been putting out of late. There is no shortage of blinding rage and flags of discontent being flown, and the right balance between memorable hooks and instrumental gymnastics is struck to appeal equally to tech thrash junkies as well as mainline fans of the style. For a fold that has been accusing the system for so long, there is definitely a satisfaction that their convictions have resulted in yet another positive verdict.
