Bio:

Mean Streak is a Swedish metal band who manages the legacy of traditional heavy metal. The band was formed in 2008 by Peter Andersson. The general idea was (and still is) to write classic metal straight from the heart. The debut album “Metal Slave” reached the stores in September 2009 and made a huge impact on the European and Japanese metal markets. The album received 8/10 in Rock Hard magazine as well as 89/100 in Burrrn! and got airplay on metal radio stations all over the world including Bruce Dickinson on BBC 6. The reviews world wide was overwhelming. A number of shows in clubs also took place. The second album “Declaration Of War” was released in January 2011 and in conjunction with that the band did their first tour out of Europe. The journey went towards Japan where the album recived great reviews from press and fans alike.During a recreation trip to Thailand in 2012, Peter and Plec started to lay out the plans for a third Mean Streak album. It was decided that the rest of the year would be spent writing and recording new material. This time no stone would be left unturned in the making of the perfect heavy metal album. In March 2013 “Trial By Fire” was ready to be delivered to Black Lodge and Bickee Music/Japan.In February 2015 Peter began writing new material for a fourth album. The writing and demo-recording took place in his project studio in Malaga Spain. 12 new songs made it to the final recordings that begun in December 15 at Panic Room Studios in Sweden. In October 2016, the man behind the mixing desk was no other than the world famous producer Max Norman. Norman is perhaps best known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne and Megadeth as well as Lynch Mob and Y & T.The new album will be called ”Blind Faith” and contains 11 brand new metal classics plus a bonus track in Japan. In January 2017 Mean Streak signed a management-deal with German Rock N´Growl. This resulted in three new record-deals on the Blind Faith album. Avalon/Marquee in Japan/Korea and ROAR Records for Europe and USA via HighVolMusic.Plans are in progress right now for festivals and tours throughout 2017.

Album:

On their fifth album “Eye Of The Storm” to be released next Friday, Swedish rockers MEAN STREAK managed to hire famous veteran producer Max Norman (Ozzy Osbourne, Y&T) for the mix and help with production. The result is eleven songs that really rock and there is a main role for guitarist Julian Eriksson who get an enormous amount of space to fire down his riffs and solos of which some are really impressive. The band kick off the album in cheeky fashion with ‘Last Nail In The Coffin’, that bare-facedly fuses two Ozzy classics together (those being Bark At The Moon and I Don’t Know) in a move clearly designed to discombobulate the listener and send all their pre-formed opinions on what to expect from these always-solid Scands flying out of the window from the album’s opening seconds. As a ploy it works, as you’ll be halfway through second track ‘From The Cradle To The Grave’ before you’ve recovered your composure. This song itself is more classic hard rock, sounding like a kind of late-Eighties mix of Def Leppard and Jeff Paris. Again, it’s not what you might have been expecting. And I love it.‘Heavy Metal Rampage’ does exactly what it says on the tin with an ’80s feel with some Helix on it, whilst the speedy ‘Sacred Ground’ could easily have been penned by Kai Hansen in the mid Eighties.Vocalist Andy La Guerin once again underlines just what a good voice for this genre he has, whilst new guitarist Julian Eriksson proves himself to be a versatile player capable of handling any style in the metal-related playbook as the band veer wildly in style from track to track.‘Dying Day’ has a real epic, brooding feel to it, whilst ‘1000 Years’ is an anthemic semi-balladic stormer shot through with real class. Both tracks prove that Mean Streak continue to grow beyond their roots into a very special act indeed in 2020.And whilst they’ll never leave those roots completely behind – ‘Stand My Ground’ is pure Tipton / Halford whilst ‘Break The Limit’ sees the band tributing Accept in exuberant fashion – adding a melodic, hard rock catchiness to their sound they are becoming a fully-formed classic rock identity in their own right with each release. And talking of style, Max Norman did a great job highlighting the band’s punchy sound with a clear output.
