Torstein Flakne (born December 17, 1960, in Trondheim, Norway) is a Norwegian singer and guitarist, best known for being the founder of the Norwegian rock band Stage Dolls. He is from Melhus and played in the band The Kids before founding Stage Dolls in 1985.His career began in Melhus in 1977 with the pop group Page 9.The group changed its name to Harvest the following year, and in 1979 became The Kids, who became particularly well known through the song ‘Forelska i lærer'n’ (1980). In 1983, Flakne formed the melodic rock band Stage Dolls with Terje Storli and Erlend Antonsen. With this band, which is his main musical project, he toured and released records abroad (mainly in the USA).1995 saw the release of his solo album Shoot the Moon.Flakne has a versatile career as a songwriter and has written songs for a number of other artists, including Liv Marit Wedvik, Sie Gubba, René Andersen and TinDrum (together with Dag Ingebrigtsen). Flakne has also created supporter songs such as ‘Alt For Norge’ (for the Norwegian national football team) and a bunch of supporter songs for the football team Rosenborg together with Dag Ingebrigtsen. One of his football supporter songs is ‘Rosenborgsangen’ (1988), which in 2007 was voted the best RBK song in a poll conducted by NRK Trøndelag. In an interview with Trønderbladet,Flakne suggests that he writes most of his songs on a box guitar assisted by pencil, pencil sharpener, eraser and coffee. He estimated himself to have written around 300 songs during the time he has worked as a musician, but also assumed to have ‘just as many that became too bad and were never quite finished.’
Stage Dolls is a Norwegian hard rock band based in Trondheim, Norway. In 1982, Erlend Antonsen and Terje Storli played at local clubs in and around Trondheim. In need of a guitarist they called on Torstein Flakne, who by then had finished playing in The Kids (a popular teeny-band in Norway 1980-82). Throughout the summer and fall of 1982 the newly formed band started rehearsing and playing shows in the region. The trio took the name Stage Dolls in January 1983. The first album, titled Soldier's Gun, was released in the early winter of 1985 after a successful nationwide tour in Norway supporting the Norwegian band TNT.Antonsen left the band in 1985 and was replaced by Steinar Krokstad; he in turn left in 1993 and was replaced by Morten Skogstad. The recordings for their next album Commandos started in the fall 1985. It peaked at no.8 in the Norwegian charts (VG) and set the band up as one of the most popular rockbands in Norway in 1986. The album was released in the US by Big Time Records and the title track Commandos gained considerable airplay on college-radio.The self-titled third album was recorded in the fall of 1987. It made it to the top of the charts in Norway, and in 1989 the band released the album on Chrysalis Records for the American market. The single "Love Cries" went to number 46 on the Billboard Singles Charts the same year. A second single for the song "Still in Love" was also released in America.
Album:
First solo album "Torstein Flakne" is very relaxed album that doesn't resemble Stage Dolls at all. Lite AOR, it's more of a calm Rock that reminds me of Tom Petty or The Wallflawors to be more recent and the voice also resembles Jacob Dylan. It has its rock parts like ‘Trouble’(paso) or ‘movidas’ in ‘All & Everything’ ‘The Only One’ very good. ‘Heart of a Woman’ reminds me of Richard Marx. Not much AOR in itself but it's a good album, not to be underestimated if you get the hang of it. For fans of Flakne's voice.Stage Dolls is a Norwegian rock band based in Melhus, Norway. The band was formed by Torstein Flakne in 1983. They released their first album two years later with the title Soldier's Gun. Their first members were guitarist and vocalist Torstein Flakne, bassist Terje Storli and drummer Erlend Antonsen. In 1985 Antonsen left the band and was replaced by Steinar Krokstad. In 1993, Krokstad was replaced by Morten Skogstad. Stage dolls is known for their glam-80s rock sound and has played at every stage in Norway. In the late 80s Stage Dolls toured in the US. Their single "Love cries" went top 3 in the "Album Rock Charts" and no.46 in the Billboard Singles Charts. Now they're back touring Norway all year. Their last album is "Get a Live" which is a live album based on their 20th Anniversary Concert in their hometown Trondheim.
