Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction were a British sleaze hard rock group, which was formed in 1985.Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction play a sleazy style of commercial hard rock featuring big riffs and choruses, as was the trend in the band's heyday of the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s. The camp lyrics are intended as self-parody, and can be seen as either humorous, or offensive by those who take them at face value, for their often lascivious and misogynist tone. Song titles like "Back Seat Education", "Feed My Frankenstein", "High Heeled Heaven", and "Trash Madonna" illustrate Mindwarp's tongue-in-cheek approach. Lyrical content also exhibits a send up of cult worship, often of Zodiac Mindwarp's self-proclaimed raging libido, with Mindwarp claiming the titles 'Sex Fuhrer', 'Love Dictator', 'President of the United States of Love' and 'High Priest of Love'.

This was one of the few RC releases housed into a cardboard slipcase.At the time, Motley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses and Bon Jovi were ruling the American rock, whilst the UK was struttin’ its stuff with The Cult, Rogue Male and… Zodiac Mindwarp!The brainchild of Mark Manning, former music mag designer and professional raconteur, Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction (to give the project its full unexpurgated title) was brought into being with a single aim in mind, to live the sex, drugs & rock’n’roll dream like there was no tomorrow.Choc full of kick ass riffs, sleazy grooves and swagger the album received critical acclaim in 1988…1985: In a musical World of hairspray and spandex, two long haired leather clad rockers were introduced to each other by their “exotic dancer” girlfriends. One – a graphic artist and poet. The other – a budding philosopher.They immediately dropped everything, joined forces and created the dirtiest, wildest band of all time. One year later, they signed to Polygram, released, first the ground breaking High Priest of Love EP, and subsequently the ‘Tattooed Beat Messiah’ album, containing the well received single “Prime Mover”.Over night, they accidentally changed the look of all the rock bands of the time from the obligatory spandex, eye liner and tinsel, to rough biker jackets, engineer boots and goatee beards.Mötley Crüe declared them to be their favourite band and immediately restyled themselves for the Girls, Girls, Girls record. ZMATLR grew in notoriety, touring the World and America, co-headlining arenas and theatres with Guns N’ Roses and finding themselves at home in the U.K. playing festivals and stadiums with Iron Maiden.After attending a Hammersmith Odeon ZMATLR concert and giving it his seal of approval, for his Hey Stoopid late 80s album Alice Cooper then recorded the Zodiac Mindwarp penned ‘Feed My Frankenstein’, later performed in the film Wayne’s World…The critical acclaim of ZMATLR then caused rare misfortune, when they lost their young naive bass player to the lures of The Cult. The band soldiered on regardless. Sometime later, in Paris, Slam Thunderhide, their drummer decided to put down his sticks to become a go-go dancer in Vancouver.“Backseat Education”, “Prime Mover”, “Skull Spark Joker”, “Planet Girl” and the other killer tracks sound as good today as they did almost 30+ years ago. Anyone who claims to be a sleazy fan will likely pencil ”Tattooed Beat Messiah” into their list of most influential albums, and for a short period of time the masses latched onto Zodiac‘s outrageous gimmick as well (the band broke into the Top 20 in the UK).But it was short lived and to this day ”Tattooed Beat Messiah” remains as his crowning achievement.Rock Candy Records have ‘remastered & reloaded’ Tattooed Beat Messiah, and have probably put more detail into this release than Zodiac ever did with his music.If you were too young to remember the debauchery of Zodiac Mindwarp in his prime, or if you want to upgrade your old cassette version, this CD is a must have.This is Zodiac at his demented peak, in fact this is sleaze hard rock at its best.
