Bio:

Melodic Hard rock/Blues Rock band from Canada that formed in the 80s, and released albums in the 90's.Krystal is one of those bands that released one or even two albums in the ’90s to almost total indifference. As a result, their albums have become extremely rare these days, and only a select few have had the immense privilege of discovering these bands and their records. The band's debut album is titled “Plug this!” and was released in 1994. Musically, this Canadian band (of Italian descent) could be compared to Great White, Little Caesar, Southgang, or even Shanghai'd Guts. In other words, this is very rootsy, bluesy hard rock ‘n’ roll. The album’s opening track, the mid-tempo “Can’t Shake This Thing,” fits this description and has that certain something that hooks you right away. Additionally, singer Mimmo’s voice bears a striking resemblance to that of Jesse Harte (Southgang). The swinging “Sticks and Stones,” “Easy Livin’,” the muscular “Dr. Love,” “Kentucky Woman” (which wouldn’t be out of place on a Great White album), “Five Knuckle Shuffle,” which is perfectly rhythmic and punchy, and “Rock ’n’ Roll Is Where It’s At” are also very compelling tracks that won’t leave fans of down-to-earth rock ’n’ roll indifferent. The cover of Gary Moore’s “Movin’ On” is equally worth mentioning, as Krystal delivers a highly dynamic version that is sure to win over many listeners. On the other hand, the ballads “Somebody’s Gonna Come” and “I Don’t Belong” are significantly less compelling and have a bland quality that may put off more than a few listeners. Clearly, Krystal is a band that is far more at home in the more fundamentally Rock’n’roll register.Ultimately, you realize that “Plug this!” is the kind of unpretentious album that doesn't look like much at first glance, but really warms your heart wherever you play it. At a time when the trend was toward dark, even depressive rock, it was nice to hear an album that harkened back to the roots of bluesy rock ’n’ roll. By the way, Krystal resurfaced five years later with a second album titled “Three Chords and a Song.” Second album "Three Chords And A Song" (1999) issued through DeROCK Records.

Album:

Excellent and rare hard rock release by KRYSTAL.Their sound and approach is a fine blend of AEROSMITH, ROLLING STONES and QUIREBOYS with great guitar work and much groove!i d say that this is strictly for hard rockers who know the basics.Krystal is a rock artist known for delivering performances with a raw and authentic edge.Their music style fuses classic rock elements with a contemporary approach, highlighted by strong songwriting and powerful vocals. The album "Three Chords & A Song" showcases a blend of energetic tracks and emotional ballads, reflecting the artist's versatility.Krystal's work is grounded in solid rock traditions while maintaining a fresh and engaging sound.“Three Chords & a Song,” the 1999 CD, opens with “Running on Empty.” Any resemblance to the song of the same name by Jackson Browne is entirely coincidental. A power song of the highest order. Screaming guitars and a fantastic rhythm section get even autistic people jumping. On “Jokes on You” and “Windy Night,” the guitarists keep firing on all cylinders. A killer Hammond organ adds even more spice to “Windy Night.” And a top-notch boogie blasts out of the speakers on “Bad’n No Good.” I have to buckle up so I don’t take off.The rest of the songs keep the adrenaline pumping throughout. It rocks and grooves like crazy.“Learn the Heard Way Every Time” is somewhat reminiscent of the old REO Speedwagon. It’s not until the final track, “Hat Man and Jimmy Beam,” that Krystal tones it down a bit. But this ballad still packs quite a punch. It’s accompanied by a razor-sharp guitar duel.
