Bio:

La Rox hailed from Padova, Veneto formed in the late 80s under the moniker Laroxx with a great following in the North of the country. In summer of 1991 after many live experiences across Italy the band started recording their first eponymous album contain 12 tracks of pure Street Metal. In 1992, after some live shows in Italy, Laroxx played a promotional tour in California getting involved in live events at the famous Troubadour and the F.M. Station in Los Angeles. Soon after the band changed its name into “La Rox”. The band’s vocalist Kelly Gray after their debut album left the band and replaced by “Morby” (Domine, Sabotage, Labyrinth) after an invitation recieved by guitar hero Arthur Falcone and they recorded their second album titled “Help me Out” back in 1996 produced by Pick-Up Records and distributed in Italy by Dig-it, Europe by KDC/Point and Japan by King/Nexus. A new tour in Eastern Europe soon followed along with many Radio and TV appearances but unfortunately the band split-up a little later. Their debut album re-issue on CD in 2009 by StelHeart Memories Records with different cover. Rarity with some good tunes on in but nothing special to die…

Album:

This album was originally recorded in 1991, this is the first time on CD.A great satisfaction to finally have in our hands this self-titled album of our 1993 LaRoxx which over time had become a track practically impossible to find and whose existence was also suspected. It took the meticulous and lengthy work of Primo Bonali's SteelHeart Memories Records to bring this piece of Italian musical history out of oblivion, now almost completely buried over time. A cd version, this just released, that beats any detractor and critic, with a sixteen-page booklet full of photos and texts and above all a really powerful sound that will satisfy even the most demanding of listeners. That of LaRoxx is a difficult story, which can be summed up with the phrase: “they arrived too late when the cake had already been eaten”. The Padua-based band entered the scene in the early nineties, trying to emulate the sound of Guns n 'Roses and Skid Row without compliments. There were many in Italy to run after Axl Rose and Sebastian Bach, I mean people like Nasty Licks, Nameless, Shabby Trick, but surely the LaRoxx were the most credible and motivated. After the first cassette release of this self-titled album the band partially changed their name to La Rox by hiring a certain Morby behind the microphone and producing what for many years was considered their only album "Help Me Out" in 1996, one of the most interesting ones released in Italy before the Power Metal explosion of the late nineties. A reissue of this second album too would not really be a bad idea for the writer. It starts with the powerful "Run" and the nervous "Where Is My Way" which immediately show great vocals and a very professional sound, Kelly Gray was a truly atypical singer by national standards and it's a real shame that he didn't nobody noticed at the time. Still great Street Rock with "Before It’s Too Late" which seems to have come out of the first Skid Row album while the more ambitious "No Strife In Life" demonstrates the professionalism of the Paduan band. We move on decidedly American styles and indebted to the sound of the best Motley Crue with “Sweet Pain In Las Vegas” and “Suicide” showing once again the truly anomalous caliber of LaRoxx in the Italian context. There is no shortage of funnier and funnier episodes with "Tattoo" and "They've Got To Know" and then go on to truly romantic atmospheres with "Let The Girl Go" which seems to come from the pen of the first Guns n 'Roses. The disc ends in the name of Street Rock with "Downtown Rock & Roll" and "Long Dark Night". It is impossible to think that songs of this caliber could not make inroads if only supported by adequate distribution. The "Ready To Shock" final moves easily on the Kiss canons of the best times with an immediate and truly engaging chorus. This reissue on CD by SteelHeart Memories Records is an absolutely essential piece for all lovers of Italian metal history, I can guarantee you that this LaRoxx record has been for many years one of the most sought after chimeras by enthusiasts and collectors. The underlying feeling is an undeniable bitterness because if this band had debuted in Los Angeles maybe in 1989 it is practically certain that they would have been talked about as well as names like Poison, Warrant, Motley Crue and Skid Row. The numbers were all there, I guarantee it.
