Reckless - Reckless (1980) (Rock Candy Remastered 2008)

Year : 1980 (Rock Candy Remastered 2008)
Style : Melodic Hard Rock , Female vocals
Country : Canada
Audio : 320 kbps + scans
Size : 127 mb
Bio:
Reckless was hard rock band, active from 1978 to 1986 in Ottawa that released a self-titled album on Harvest in 1980.Four years later, a revised line-up issued the album Heart of Steel on Heavy Metal America. After performing shows all across Canada, in 1980 the band signed to the Hollywood based record label 'Harvest'.The band's original line-up featured Steve Madden on guitar, with Jan Melan on vocals, Gene Stout on bass and Gil Roberts on drums. Shortly after signing to 'Harvest', their debut album 'Reckless' was released that same year. The brilliant guitar work of Madden, and the quirky vocal delivery of Melanson created a form of commercial Glam Metal that looked for a moment to be a smash hit. Sadly the album received mixed reviews and poor album sales, leading them to leave the record label shortly after the album's release. The band then began searching for a new label, eventually signing to local label 'Quality Records'. The band then recorded their second album entitled 'Heart of Steel' in 1985 and was released in the UK by Heavy Metal Records, who received exclusive license for the album in that country. By this point the band had undergone a few line-up changes, and the new line-up featured Doug Adams on vocals, Todd Pilon on bass, Steve Wayne Lederman on drums along with original member guitarist Steve Madden.Sadly despite another strong effort with the stylish guitar work than even Eddie Van Halen would be proud of, this album also received mixed reviews and poor sales, and soon after the band faded from existence. Our one damned album was released on both sides of the Atlantic (not the record label...the water!) and manifested itself in a number of incarnations. My absolute favorite was the picture disc. It used the exact same photos as the regular issue LP used, the exact same pretty-boy snapshots that were forced into service on the CD reissue! If they were the EXACT SAME shots as on the regular release, then what was the advantage of buying the bloody picture disc? Was it for people that preferred not to be bothered with the added hassle of having a cardboard sleeve on their LP? The company that reissued the CD for tax purposes hired a Photoshop artist to add in the apropos rusted sawblades!"Heart Of Steel" was also available in compact music cassette form. My only regret was that we never had the LP released on 8-track cartridge. We were in format limbo - too late for 8-tracks, and too early for CDs. "Hot 'n' Ready", the soundtrack for our big-budget video that saw rotation on MuchMucous' "Power Hour" was released on a 7" radio-edit 45rpm single. We also released a "radio stations only" 12" record that had explanations for the various songs on the LP rendered by assorted and sundry members of the band. A couple of Madden's explanations are included on the "Drivin' You Madden" page. Anyhow, time went marching on, and the internal band-battles came to a head, so management ganged up on Madoonski and kicked him out of his own band! After Madden was stripped of his duties and of his band name, Reckless hired a keyboardist named Bob, and we went into pre-production for another LP (CDs still hadn't been invented yet. ~Wheez~,~ wheez~, *cough*..*cough*.) Our resulting efforts were quickly rejected by our management, who by that time couldn't figure out how to skim any more money off of us. We almost pressed the record ourselves, except that management had all of our money, and we only had a four-track basement recording. (The bootleg CD version was pressed in very limited quantities in Roumania, eventually. Watch eBay for it.) We chose a picture for the cover, with "Like A Thief In The Night" being the working title. Brian wanted to call it "Raccoon Fucker" ("..it's a play on words! People think it's about someone who fucks raccoons, but actually it's about a raccoon that fucks!") Bob, still dispondant over his break-up with his girlfriend, wanted to call the LP "Trace", as a sort of dedication. Brian beat the crap out of him.
Album:
The other day we featured the 1984, second album from ’80s Canadian band RECKLESS, a record done after they shifted in style in favor to the glam metal of the day. But in their origins, the band was pretty different. And good!Hailing from Ontario, Canada, RECKLESS was founded in 1978 by guitarist and songwriter Steve Madden, forever prolific and very talented too. After performing shows all across Canada, in 1980 the band signed to the Hollywood based record label Harvest, part of the EMI Group. The band’s original line-up featured Steve Madden on guitar, with female Jan Melanson on vocals, Gene Stout on bass and Gil Roberts on drums.Shortly after signing to Harvest, their debut album ‘Reckless’ was released that same year. The brilliant guitar work of Madden, and the quirky vocal delivery of Melanson created a form of catchy commercial hard rock. However, on many songs, Madden shows his NWOBHM influences turning things pretty heavy. And he rips on the guitar – some riffs and solos are insane, hot n’ heavy! As a proof of RECKLESS edge, they opened for Iron Maiden on the Killers Tour to support this album.Other tracks are commercial, pop-rockin’ melodic, but never cheesy, always with a stinging attack. Here’s the Rock Candy Records remastered reissue of “Reckless” (now out of print, not listed at their website anymore) including previously unreleased tracks as bonus.
