Info:

If you ask me, I really don’t think there has ever been a band like Evil Invaders. Their music? Well, it definitely sounds like Speed Metal, because of its fast and technical riffs and all… On the other hand, you definitely can hear some Heavy Metal and Thrash Metal influences too. It’s difficult to put a precise label on their music, really, but it doesn’t sound like a band from now at all. It really doesn’t. But yet it sounds kind of… well… new!Imagine Evil Invaders was an upcoming band from the early 80’s. As if we were still living in the bay area where we could see Mustaine playing lead guitars in Metallica before there was even an album called Kill ‘em All. As if bands like Agent Steel, Exciter or Megadeth were still to become as they ended up to be.Man… Do you recall those images or the feeling you had when you first saw bands like early Metallica, WASP or Mercyful Fate? Well, with Evil Invaders I think this feeling will be all coming back to you. Go to a show, check out their music and see for yourself...What more can I say? Their music is pretty much a mixture of the great early metal works, but still… in a way it really sounds fresh. It’s Speed Metal played and performed in a way you hardly ever see again these days. Then, at certain moments, they kind of slow down the pace to do some typical harmonic guitar playing that definitely finds its origin back in the day of the NWOBHM era. It’s fast, but combined with the singer’s high pitched screams and his kind of twisted facial expressions, it sometimes gives the impression that he’s kind of mad or evil, or however you may call it.Either way, it’s all quite an impressive mixture from a whole bunch of different Heavy Metal influences.Evil Invaders will take you back to the time where it all began. They will bring you back to the good days, the fun days, you know... those FAST, LOUD and RUDE METAL days!

Album:

Just when I thought that the true arts of Speed Metal were a thing of the past. Coming to think of it, the larger part of the Metal bands nowadays hustling things up when they wish to without being labeled about it. On the other hand, there was always something mystifying in 80’s Speed Metal and the energies that it inhibited from within that made it somewhat different from Thrash or other forms of Metal the relied on full throttle. I won’t start blabbering on ancient history, so I will head forward with my review of the debut release by the Belgian old school moshers, EVIL INVADERS. Alongside touring extensively, this bunch actually had the time to write an album, and here they go with “Pulses Of Pleasure”, via Napalm Records no other. With this debut out, these wildlings joins new revival bands such as ENFORCER, SKULL FIST amongst others to honor the gods of gold and old. All the clichés in the genre can never be used up and I justify this belief with this here release. The only way one is going to shut down EVIL INVADERS’ grip of the gas pedal is only if you will empty their fuel or merely just kick the drummer from the kit, because as “Pules Of Pleasure” generally suggests, they won’t be stopping. Gathering velocity like maniacs, resembling MOTORHEAD, RUNNING WILD, EXCITER and I would even notice several early METALLICA and EXODUS, in conjunction with fine British Metal harmonic nostalgia al’a IRON MAIDEN, Danish early MERCYFUL FATE and Teutonic heaviness in the spirit of early HELLOWEEN, the Belgians has everything needed for an old school jamboree. Largely, between the enjoyable kicking, rattling and screaming by guitarist Johannes Van Audenhove, which really pushed the high ends of his voice to the maximum of King Diamond standards (sometimes too much), the songs show character of a truly devoted band for the preservation of the older days. Their melodic touch is admirable, handling classic driven riffery that is compelling, often right there on the spot to nick you, yet also surprising on occasion. When the lead guitar is called upon, no doubt that both guitarists has been inspired by the NWOBHM’s essence of magic, shackle breaking soloing while the engines roar in the midst of several lower in tempo passionate markers. So there I stroll through their tracklist, comprised of eight bites to the bone and a pure IRON MAIDENish intro that leaped in the middle of “Strange World” and “Remember Tomorrow”. As for actual songs, “Pulses of Pleasure” acted as if I was in the looney bin, contradicting between three personalities. From a kind of itchy preaching surging to become an EXCITER attack, to a galvanizing MOTORHEAD attack, hard hitting without mercy only to comfortably welcome the divine ascension of classic melodic Metal performance. “Venom” is a shot back to the sweet 80’s, as if the others aren’t, yet this one felt so British that I could taste an English cake. This is a display of a catchy tune, kind of a HELL generated vocal type that is virtuously insane. The ultra-catch phrasing of “Master of Illusion” is what you would call a prize, the old MAIDEN inner self embodying this melodic and riff based skirmish, proving that EVIL INVADERS possess the knowledge for one of the best aspects of traditional Metal music. Furthermore, the last tune comes as the less speedy racing, so if you had enough of high octane triumph, grasp your wits for this one.

Album:

Strictly limited EVIL INVADERS EP including two new tracks and two live tracks. Limited to 1000 copies worldwide. The New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal: an attempt awakening of the post-millennium crop of teenagers who were fortunate enough to find tapes of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept and King Diamond hidden safely in the secret compartment of their parents’ basement (right underneath the Playboys and the home-made sex tapes), a discovery which (besides giving them an idea what their parents were before they became corporate bums and soccer moms) opened their eyes to WHAT METAL WAS SUPPOSED TO FUC**’ BE. Amalgamating the stylistic elements of the aforementioned bands with those of thrash, bands such as White Wizzard, Enforcer and Cauldron began to bring back the machismo of the late 70’s and 80’s.Falling in the same vein as these bands, Evil Invaders (hell, even their name is taken from the 4th album of Canadian speed metal band Razor) was formed by Johannes Van Audenhove a.k.a Joe(guitars and vocals) and played their first gig in 2009. They have come a long way since then, releasing a self-titled E.P. in 2013 and a full length album entitled ‘Pulses of Pleasure’ in 2015. With a line-up that currently includes Max Mayhem (lead guitars), Senne Jacobs (drums) and Joeri van de Schoot (bass guitar) they released an E.P. titled ‘In for the Kill’ on September 30 via Napalm records. The E.P. opens with “As Life Slowly Fades” which is your typical thrash number, a track that screams Exodus and Slayer. Senne Jacobs’ drumming in this song is nothing short of earth shattering and he maintains those fast double bass shred patterns for the better part of the song. I just wish his double bass sounded better as the sound lacked the crispness that it should have had. Joeand Max Mayhem trade solos effortlessly and I should say that their soloing has improved by leaps and bounds. “Raising Hell” is the band’s tribute to the legacy of Lemmy with its Iron Fist-ish opening, a riff structure that carries the weight of the song. The song also incorporates classic thrash in the song with its periodic fast double bass and has a tinge of melody in the chorus and towards the end of the song. Both these track are followed by live versions of “Pulses of Pleasure” and “Victim of Sacrifice”.Both the tracks are nothing short of mind blowing and Evil Invaders are definitely on their way to commercial success and widespread critical respect (well, they already have the latter). However it befuddles me as to why they would release an E.P with just two new songs. They could have just released those two songs as 2 separate singles. When I heard they were coming out with a new E.P I expected something similar to their first E.P which blew my socks off or something like ‘The $ 5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited’ by Metallica which was promoted to optimally encompass its scope.I would like to reiterate that the band has it all to go places. They have the attitude, the power screams, the solos and the anthem (Joe even has a 70’s porn moustache, for crying out loud). It would have been a better choice to include a couple of new songs or one new song coupled with studio recordings of their covers of Exodus’ “Fabulous Disaster” and Exciter’s “Violence and Force”. This E.P just did not do justice to the hype that precluded it and I feel that the phenomenal artwork by Mario Lopez could have been used as the cover for their next album thus providing it with the rightful appreciation it deserves. In conclusion, ‘In For The Kill’ was not compelling enough for me to categorically say that I was pleased with it. Let us hope they make wiser choices next time.

Album:

EVIL INVADERS have had a very productive year thus far, playing the inaugural Heavy Scotland festival, Motorcultur Open Air and Alcatraz Festival amongst many other appearances and September 29th will see them release their second full length release entitled Feed Me Violence via Napalm Records. The Belgian four piece have become rapidly renowned for their tantalising bursts of ferocious speed metal and Feed Me Violence propels their musicianship up another level. First single and opening track Mental Penitentiary immediately springs into life with incendiary riffing and an undeniably vintage thrash metal sound brought up to date with razor sharp production. Every level of instrumentation shines through as the clinically energetic drumming combines with intense shredding and a rapid vocal delivery courtesy of frontman Johannes Van Audenhove. Before you know it you are welcomed with a barrage of screaming guitars and earth shattering drum work in the shape of As Life Slowly Fades. The level of technicality on show is phenomenal as sweeping solo’s aplenty are expertly executed with ease. Brief interlude Suspended Animation provides a quirky, distorted tone which wouldn’t feel out of place on a black metal album before quickly transitioning into the fist pumping, adrenaline rush of Broken Dreams In Isolation which superbly shows the diversity of the band, displaying they can create huge anthemic riffs with a slower tempo when required and it provides one of the highlights of the album with a captivating appeal very reminiscent of KING DIAMOND.The shift in pace is short lived as title track Feed Me Violence fires up all cylinders possessing a huge energy and an abundance of blistering riffs which sound utterly vicious but incredibly irresistible. Oblivion proceeds with a beautifully crafted segment of guitar work that isn’t particularly complex in construction but it is captivating to experience before business resumes and the 80’s thrash vibe returns in full force. As the album draws closer to its conclusion Shades Of Solitude provides a bit of respite with some calming bass lines and impressively immersive solo work swiftly launching into the almost punk-like riffing of Anger Within before the dark and evil tones generated in Among The Depths Of Sanity most certainly leave a lasting impression concluding Feed Me Violence on a frenetic high.Thrash/speed metal bands seem to get a reputation for being a bit of a ‘one trick pony’ but this is certainly not the case with EVIL INVADERS. The tempo may be relatively consistent but the variance in styles showcased is jaw dropping and their energy levels are simply awe inspiring. When some bands considered to be on the top of the pile are becoming too complacent and particularly stagnant Feed Me Violence really elevates EVIL INVADERS through the ranks providing a fresh injection of adrenaline into the genre. Their arrangements and levels of experimentation are infectious, inviting and get your blood flowing proving for a very enjoyable experience. EVIL INVADERS will certainly be up there with the big hitters and a name on everyone’s lips when 2017 comes to a close.

Album:

Belgian thrashers Evil Invaders unleash hell with their latest release Surge of Insanity a live album recorded in their hometown Antwerp in 2018, along with a DVD. It rips along at a million miles an hour from the opening intro to the last reverb of the outro “Shades of Solitude”.Jam-packed full of hits from their first EP to the latest release Feed Me Violence and you can feel the energy from these guys just oozing through the speakers as the tear it up with their own unique blend of thrash and heavy metal. At times they sound like early Kreator only to switch it up and sound like Judas Priest or Iron Maiden on speed. There is absolutely no doubt they are an extremely talented and technical bunch, thrash metal with savage riffs and solos that will astound you as they knock out hit after hit in a frenzy. Tracks like “As Life Slowly Fades”, “Raising Hell” and “Victims of Sacrifice” from their EPs sound as good if not better than some of the newer ones but the likes of “Pulses of Pleasures”, “Shot to Paradise” and “Broken Dreams in Isolation” showcase exactly where they are going with future releases.“Feed Me Violence” just melts you face with the sheer speed and power with vocals ranging from screamed to guttural and everything in between while “Stairway To Insanity” and “Master Of Illusion” have a real Maiden feel with riffs that would not be out o place on any of their albums but done at a hundred miles an hour. Tracks like “Oblivion” are why mosh pits were invented, so you can go fucking mental with every other lunatic and when the song finishes you will feel like you have staggered out of one, simply amazing. They even have time to throw in a Venom cover “Witching Hour” or good measure. As live albums go this is one of the best around, the absolute energy given from the band lends to a completely immersive experience and you can only give them 100% for the effort.

Bio:

Album:

EVIL INVADERSs Shattering Reflection promises to be a game-changer for the Belgian four-piece, as the band finds their own formula - twisting heavy metal into yet another extreme direction. The album takes off with speeding banger "Hissing in Crescendo", followed by the epic anthem "Die For Me", already destined to become an EVIL INVADERS all-time classic. A calmer side is explored on tracks like mid-tempo opus "Forgotten Memories", creating a dense, heavy wall of sound with equally piercing vocals and lyrics underlined by guitar solo virtuosity. That thrilling epos stands in line with "In Deepest Black", further showcasing how the band has managed to craft a pure classic heavy metal anthem with melodic guitar lines and catchy choruses, creeping relentlessly into the listeners head. It also proves that frontman Joe has undoubtedly matured vocally, as his voice enters a whole new dimension in all facets. On the contrary, "Sledgehammer Justice" is a furious outburst of classic thrash/speed metal in which the Belgian quartet goes full throttle with hammering rhythms and guitar solo madness! Another album highlight is dark opus "The Circle", creating a horrifying atmosphere with stomping drums and excellent guitar lines. Fans of King Diamond will definitely dig this one! Throughout the album, the band manages to keep the balance between fast extreme heavy metal with sharp shredding and mosh-worthy tracks, as well as melodic, intense and chorus-oriented mid-tempo anthems.Shattering Reflection is a monster of an album that indisputably proves that, within in a new generation of metal bands, EVIL INVADERS have developed and matured record after record, just like classic metal bands of yore. Fans will instantly clamor to hear Shattering Reflection in full, and see these sinister tracks performed live on stage!
