Here's the old ones debuting with their new band, Darklon (a name taken from a Marvel comic), staying true to the 80s recipes, giving us a disc so inspiring, so compelling and so tight, so that within thirty minutes we have been presented with a complete sound proposal, with no beginning, middle and end, no fillers, no hints and chatter of any kind: The songs last on average 3 - 3.5 minutes, with duplicates , chants and melodic, crystal clear solo guitar players. "Rise From Death" is a tribute to Protonotarius (vocals), Krassoni (guitars), Steriannidis (bass) and Papavasilis (drums) on their favorite US Power Metal, and for that reason, the Darklon album really doesn't have 'Age': It could have been released in 1989, so to speak, and it sounded totally in the mood.Don't imagine it sounds 'retro' anyway. The massive production (performed in the home studio of singer Nikos Protonotariou), the lack of "femininity" in the vocals (the guy I bet "worships Kimball, Oliva and Comeau"), the lively nature and immediacy of the songs a disc that sounds fresh and friendly to the ears, even to a world that is not an idiot. Clearly, like ... then, some pieces stand out a bit, such as the terrific "Arise Chariot", the "Darklon" march, the catapult "Behead" and the infamous "The Serpent King", which are the vanguard of this small achievement, called "Rise From Death". However, there is no point in losing our interest because all the tracks have something to offer, while it is true that the disc is clearly "grower" and sounds better, listening with listening.In a difficult and highly competitive year for classic heavy / power metal, it would be unfair to overlook the debut of the Darklon gentlemen, who, with excessive audacity and passion, blended something of the magic of the early Savatage, the Omen and of course the Manowar and they are offering us a diamond of American power metal, which even performs flawlessly, with modesty and love, and on stage, as it turned out with their recent appearances, in Thessaloniki and Athens, opening for the Swedish Enforcer.
