Bio:

Avantasia is a German symphonic power metal supergroup project created by Tobias Sammet, vocalist of the band Edguy. It has been characterised as a rock opera, as it features various vocalists and musicians and is consists of concept albums. The name is a portmanteau of the words "avalon" and "fantasia" ("fantasy") and describes "a world beyond human imagination" (a quotation from the booklet). The project can be divided into three periods of activity. The first, 1999-2002, saw the release of a self-titled single and two full-length albums with the subtitle The Metal Opera. The second, 2005-2011, consists of the EPs Lost in Space Part I & II and the The Wicked Trilogy, composed of the albums The Scarecrow, The Wicked Symphony and Angel of Babylon. The third period, 2013-2016, begins with the album The Mystery of Time and ends with the forthcoming release Ghostlights. In a May 2014 interview regarding Edguy's then latest album Space Police: Defenders of the Crown, Tobias said that The Mystery of Time hinted at a possible sequel. The new album, entitled Ghostlights, will be released on January 29,2016. The album will feature guest performances by guitarists Bruce Kulick and Oliver Hartmann, while the guest vocalists will be Dee Snider, Geoff Tate, Jorn Lande, Michael Kiske, Sharon den Adel, Bob Catley, Ronnie Atkins, Robert Mason, Marco Hietala and Herbie Langhans.

Album:

For the first time, the two volumes of Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA "The Metal Opera" are being released on high quality SHM-CD in Japan. This "The Metal Opera Part II" carry on the story begun in The Metal Opera first album, with the same characters. For the uninitiated with these 2 Avantasia first albums, "The Metal Opera" actually isn't operatic but rocking.Tobias Sammet wanted a more elaborated songwriting than the standard work with his band at the moment (Edguy), so in Avantasia the instrumentation is intricate, with an electric, metallic sound, and the choruses huge, and catchy."The Metal Opera" is a truly epic adventure which unfolds itself in a great storytelling. The story is about Gabriel (Sammet), a novice cleric and his quest to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart Anna, while he starts to lose faith in the catholic church that he is meant to serve. The album features brilliant, I repeat, brilliant vocals from several of the greatest vocalists in metal, including Michael Kiske of Helloween as Gabriels guide - the druid Vandroiy, Sharon Den Adel of Within Temptation as Anna, Oliver Hartmann as the Pope, and the great Rob Rock (ex-Axel Rudi Pell, Driver, Impellitteri) as Bishop Johann von Bicken, among others. Also, The Metal Opera has a story that the listener can follow without having to read the lyrics / story, which, btw, if you need it, this Japanese has a complete 16-page booklet. An excellent piece of work you need to hear.
