Bio:

Arguably one of Australia’s most popular Heavy Metal bands, Black Majesty return with their fifth album ‘Stargazer’. After initially dazzling the metal scene with their progressive tinged ‘Sands of Time’ cd (2003), and critically acclaimed power metal opus ‘Silent Company’ cd (2005) the band released ‘Tomorrowland’ in 2007 which saw them play at some of the world’s biggest renowned Heavy Metal festivals such as Masters of Rock Czech Republic, Metal Universe Slovakia and Wacken Open Air Germany. Stefan Belik of Bright Eyes Wacken review team went on to say that “Black Majesty shared unbelievable guitar work and one of the most impressive voices of the 2007 Wacken Open Air festival”. Then came ‘In Your Honour’ (2010) named after the band’s appreciation for their fans, which also saw Black Majesty play one of their biggest headline shows ever - in excess of 5000 people in Jakarta, Indonesia.Black Majesty’s latest album ‘Stargazer’ is both fresh and vintage. It shows off some of the band’s best songwriting to date which sees the band cover new ground with excellent musicianship and melodic arrangements whilst still remaining true to the melodic metal style they have developed over the years. Vocalist John Cavaliere soars in songs like ‘Voice Of Change’ and ‘Edge Of The World’ which is reminiscent of the mighty Michael Kiske whilst album opener ‘Fallen’ shares elements of classic Kamelot.Black Majesty again decided to utilise Masterplan main man Roland Grapow (ex Helloween) for some of the recording process with drummer Pavel Konvalinka recording drums at Grapow Studios in Slovakia. Roland went on to mix & master the album giving the album that special ‘X – Factor”.Stargazer features great sing along choruses, emotive expression, impressive vocal work from arguably one of the best vocalists in the southern hemisphere – John Cavaliere, soaring dual guitar solos from guitarists Stevie Janevski & Hanny Mohamed , pounding bass from Evan Harris & awesome thundering power drumming from Pavel Konvalinka. With influences ranging from Judas Priest, Dio, Manowar, Queensryche and Helloween the new album shows a band that wears their influences on their sleeves yet also one that is also striving to create new unique and powerful songs. The title track ‘Stargazer’ is reminiscent of old school classic metal whilst songs such as ‘Holy Killers’ and Edge Of The World’ get our pulse racing from the get go. “Lost Horizon’ and ‘Journey To The Soul’ showcase the bands knack for catchy anthems whilst the bare bones acoustic track Shine is an emotion filled ballad which reminds of Coverdale’s excellent Soldier Of Fortune. We are also introduced to the haunting ‘Symphony Of Death’ and ‘Killing Hand’ which are both lyrically intriguing, something sure to get the general public talking.Black Majesty have always shown great passion for the music they play. They’ve helped spread the word with tours of Europe, Asia and Australia, playing alongside heavyweights such as Helloween, Saxon, Blind Guardian, Paul Dianno, Edguy, Hammerfall and Dragonforce many of whom were overwhelmed by the bands powerful energy.Black Majesty’s amazing cover art theme continues with Dirk Illing (Scorpions/Wizard) again adding the fifth part to the Black Majesty story.Black Majesty released their new album Stargazer in July 2012 (mixed by Roland Grapow – Masterplan / ex – Helloween).Black Majesty most recently supported Nightwish nation wide on their upcoming January 2013 tour. Black Majesty also supported Sabbaton on their only Melbourne headline show in January 2013.

Album:

The comment “it isn’t anything new” seems to be negative for many readers. No, it’s not. To be honest, almost 90% of the releases you can think of are breeds of anything, but it doesn’t mean that they’re not good. An example: compare METALLICA and MEGADETH, and you see the same musical genre, but different approaches are used (and none of them created Thrash Metal, but EXODUS is the one who started it). That’s what it means to say that the Power Metal quintet BLACK MAJESTY, from Australia, is releasing their very good latest album, “Children of the Abyss”.It’s just that old and good traditional form of melodic and technical Power Metal used by German bands as HELLOWEEN and GAMMA RAY. But these guys know how to create excellent hooking musical arrangements and charming choruses. Of course, it’s nothing that we didn’t heard before somewhere else, but how this album is truly very good. It glues in our ears! It’s their seventh album so it demanded a good producer. And the one they choose is Roland Grapow (from MASTERPLAN), who gave them a first class insight on the quality. Of course they sound heavy and with a raw aggressive touch, what make them different from those who want the things as clean as possible (and that sometimes sacrifices the musical weight for that). Everything works in a very good way, indeed.Musically, it’s an album that every fan of this genre will buy. And “Dragons Unite” (a fast song with excellent melodies and charming chorus, what shows how the vocals are truly very good), the catchy and heavy tempos “Something’s Goin On” (yes, the bass guitar and drums are doing a good and heavy work), the sharp harmonies and grasping speed of “Children of the Abyss” (excellent guitar riffs and solos), the climatic tempo changes of “Hideaway” (very good keyboards parts filling the spaces) and on “So Lonely”, and the fire dart riffs of “Reach Into Darkness” can be pointed as the album’s finest moments. But hear it entirely, you’ll love the experience.BLACK MAJESTY is really a very good band, and “Children of the Abyss” can put them in a better place on the world scene!
