Santiano is a German band from the northern region of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, whose genres include Irish folk, sea shanty, and schlager music. The name Santiano is derived from the title of the Hugues Aufray song of the same name. They topped the German, Austrian, and Swiss charts in the mid 2010s.The idea for the band originated with German producer Hartmut Krech of Flensburg, who owns the Elephant Music label. On 3 February 2012, the band appeared at We Love Music, an event promoted by Universal Music and ProSiebenSat.1 Media. Their first album, titled Bis ans Ende der Welt ('To the end of the earth'), was released in 2012. It reached #1 in the German charts. That same year, the group completed a European tour, including a performance at the Wacken Open Air festival. A live CD/DVD of the event was released in November 2012.In 2013 and 2014, they received an Echo award for best Folk music. Santiano appeared as an opening act for Helene Fischer's 2013 summer tour, and toured Germany from November 2013 to April 2014.Their second studio album, Mit den Gezeiten ("With the tides"), was released in 2013 and reached #1 in the German charts. This album contains more rock elements than "Bis ans Ende der Welt" but still draws upon themes surrounding the sea and North German myths.In 2014, they participated in Unser Song für Dänemark, the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 with the songs Wir werden niemals untergehen and Fiddler on the Deck.They were eliminated in Round 2 of the final.Their third studio album, Von Liebe, Tod und Freiheit ("On love, death and freedom") was released in May 2015 and provided the band with another #1 album in Germany. As its title suggests, deeper themes are addressed in the lyrics of this album but this is offset by a number of folk-based songs which promote the importance of camaraderie and togetherness when dealing with such themes.The band appeared for a fourth time at the Wacken Open Air festival in 2015 and continued to tour into 2016.

The Santiano ship is ready for a new course! Since 2011, the five-member crew from northern Schleswig-Holstein is already on deck and hard on the wind. Shanty songs, Irish folk, the use of popular tunes, Shelty Rock - all this is played on deck. And very successful, because the sailors hit huge waves around the globe, yes they drive whole stadiums! 3 albums already exist including the Special Editions. In 2015, the last work "Von Liebe, Tod und Freiheit" was published. Since 13.10.2017 there is the new work "In the Eye of the Storm" with 13 brand new daring stories. How they sound, you will learn now. Already the opener and at the same time as a single chosen "Can you hear me" can be heard. Booming, powerful, rocking, quick-tempered, seaworthy, yearning. Yes, we can hear you! And we also like to listen to the great sounds and the fine text. One part of the melody in the middle part has to be recognized immediately: U96 "Das Boot". Suitably chosen. "I'll bring you home" is the first ballad of the disc. Deep, wistful, yearning, hopeful, romantic. Every mother, every waiting woman, every child, which has son, friend, husband, father on board a ship, will feel addressed here. With "Sail away" there is official Irish folk on the ears. A proper sailor party is boarding an Irish ship. Climb, celebrate, jump, drink, have fun - you only live once! You get a very strong story with "Liekedeeler". With Irish Folk Rock and fast, catchy vocals, the story is told impressively. "Vitalienbrüder (also: Vitalier, Latin: fratres Vitalienses) called itself a group of sailors who influenced the trade in the North Sea and Baltic Sea in the 14th century. From 1389 to 1394, they wanted to ensure the food supplies of Stockholm from 1389 to 1394 as part of the siege by Danish troops and then sailed the seas as captains. a. on behalf of kingdoms and Hanseatic cities. The heart and title track "In the Eye of the Storm" is another beautiful ballad and story that the men tell with Anna Brunner. Elegiac, catchy, gripping, rousing, great voices. Incidentally, Anna Brunner is a member of Exit Eden. With "But I know it", there is one of the strongest parts on the CD. For this, Santiano have got active support from the medieval-age combo spell. "Hooray for Whiskey" is, how should it be, a festive, drinking-resistant folk monster, which invites you to dance immediately. So, open, move the lazy skeleton, you landlubbers! "Yearning is my helmsman". You do not have to say great, everyone can think what to expect. A beautiful, deep, elegiac, gripping sailor-longing ballad. Middle Ages, folk, strong statements, a Nordic touch of the Vikings - this is how "Brothers in the Heart" presents itself. Honor your brothers in the heart, there is only one true. Leave the wrong ones behind. With "Your journey never ends" Santiano have created a song that is versatile ingenious and meaningful. The king of the songs to be found here. Listen to it, let it work, go inside you. Think. And then the message lives. The same with "you should not mourn". The only difference: here you can also dance to think! Two really impressive songs. Film-ready with huge emotions presents itself "Our songs will stay". It is also sad, moving and thoughtful. A strong hint of farewell resonates here. Basically builds directly on "you should not grieve" on. "We for you and you for us" is a small, fine, gripping thank you to the many fans. Do not make many bands. Especially in the sector of Santiano. Great gesture of the guys! The CD also ends with this gift. Conclusion: I have to say, I'm a bit speechless. Although not expected and suspected, Santiano are among the bands that are getting better and better in the course of their existence. In my opinion, Santiano prove with this work that they have the status of a folk band cast there. Right strong, ambiguous, awake, meaningful songs are on it. Nobody writes that half-heartedly scribbles something on paper. Since the boys have thought of something. Sure, the music is mass suitable. Personally, I think it's a pity. But that happens fast with such music. Maybe the crew will manage to reach one or the other. It worked for me and I say it's one of their strongest albums so far!
