Bio:

After the band’s initiation in 2001 and two demo records („Solar Force“ in 2002 and „Unveiling The Grotesque“ in 2004) the official debut „Scales Of Judgement“ (producer: Tommy Newton) followed in 2006 and was released by the German record label Metal Heaven. One song from this record („Flame Of War“) is being used in a rearranged way by the icehockey team Krefeld Pinguine as the official hymn since 2007/2008.Besides playing plenty of live shows Ra`s Dawn also concentrated on writing new material for the upcoming album „At The Gates Of Dawn“ – new songs with a distinct progress in both composition and lyrical variety, but never leaving the classical paths of Heavy Metal. In April 2008 Ra`s Dawn entered the highly acclaimed Kohlekeller Studios lead by Kristian Kohlmannslehner (e.g. SIEGES EVEN, CREMATORY, SIX REASONS TO KILL) to get the new record done and produced. The outcome of this fertile cooperation is a partly progressive and mindfully versatile Metal album with a quite modern touch – a highly dynamic, forceful record with skilled and powerful riffing and catchy hooklines.„At The Gates Of Dawn“ is being distributed worldwide by Twilight Distribution.Since the release of "At The Gates Of Dawn" Ra's Dawn kept constantly writing new material, celebrated their 10th anniversary, and rehearsed old and new stuff for live shows. But due to various personal difficulties, the songwriting process had to slow down over a period of time. Then in 2016, Ra's Dawn again entered Kohlekellerstudios to record their forthcoming album "From The Vile Catacombs". The production again serves all trademarks of the band and delivers a bunch of solid, heartfully and massive pieces to the eager metalhead.Thankfully they quickly managed to find the right label and distribution partner to bring "From The Vile Catacombs" to the world. The record is being distributed by Roll The Bones Records and Soul Food Distribution.Official release date is set to March 10th, 2017.

Album:

Eight years after the last studio album, the third, complete album of the Koblenz Egyptian metallers Ra's Dawn with the mystical title "From The Vile Catacombs" now appears. So mystical is the title, so gloomy is the great-looking cover and booklet of the CD designed by guitarist John Schmitz, which also has a artwork for each song. But the five men can score points not only visually, the sound lay once again in the experienced fingers of the Kohlkeller Studios and is more than official. With these two components alone, the musicians, who have been active for many years in the same occupation, are able to set themselves apart from the competition. Luckily for us listeners, this is also the case. Ra's Dawn connect skilfully and fluently Power Metal without kitsch with some Prog plus light Thrash edge. Frontman Olaf Reimann has to sing beside clear passages, also times shards or emotional, which contributes tremendously to variety. In between, there are straight-line breakers like the extremely crunchy "Revenant Soul" or "Crusher" for short. Also the ironically textured Heavy Metal song ("We Play) The Music Of The Devil" is a real catchy song which surely will cause a great sensation and every metalparty can sound superbly. On the other hand, the "Soraya's Eyes", with the singer of the nemesis, is the prog side of the band, which is at the end of the CD with the quasi title song "From The Vile Catacombs Of Sahure", a 10 minute epic yet again. Ra's Dawn is a big change and with songs like the half-ballad "Ghost Of My Mind" there is still a massive Iced Earth Feeling. A good tribute to their musical influences. Since no keyboardist has been on board for years, generally the guitars and also a "live" played drums, which I also absolutely wanted to have mentioned. The third album of the group has become the most mellow in a truly not so easy Vita!
