Damage Limit - Crank (EP) (2017)

Year : 2017
Style : Hard Rock
Country : Finland
Audio : 320 kbps + front
Size : 72 mb
Bio:
Damage Limit is a Finnish hard rock band who draw their main influences for 80's and 90's hard- and glam rock bands (f.ex Hanoi Rocks, Backyard Babies...) , but is also heavily influenced by a bit heavier and louder bands (f.ex Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, The Misfits, Motörhead...). In Helsinki in the early 2010 Miguelito and a bit later Samu started working on a project called "Hospital Situation" with Taneli Hassel ( guitarist back then), Teemu and Atte (the bass player back then). After a few weeks of training with Atte having difficulties attending more than a couple times, Samu tried out the bass guitar along with the vocals and Damage Limit was born. In the summer of 2010 Damage Limit recorded their first demo with an old friend Janne Nurmi. The demo contained 4 songs the band had written earlier and was released only online. Damage Limit spent the late 2010 and the early 2011 playing live and getting needed experience and some word out for the band. On the spring of 2011 had to make tough decision and part ways with the original second lead guitar player Taneli caused by prolonged difficulties and arguments the band had been having. That did put the recording process in ice for a while, but the band was just about to catch fire. In the late summer of 2011 In the end Damage Limit found themselves training with Jani, who came along with a big bang and played himself in the hearts of the band in the first rehearsal. The band also tried out adding an all new instrument in the band with Nicky playing the keyboard. The keyboard seemed to work out great with the bands sound but due to Nicky moving to a different city, it never got be a permanent part of Damage Limit. In the spring of 2013 Damage Limit released a 4 song EP called Troubles Distilled in a CD -form and various streaming outlets. After the release of Toubles Distilled the band concentrated on promoting the EP mainly by playing live shows around southern Finland. In 2014 Jani decided to leave the band due to motivational issues and Samu took up the second guitar. The band remained semi-active without a permanent bass player writing new songs and doing a few live shows in local venues with a stand in bass player. In october 2015 Damage Limit recorded an album with Samu in the guitar and lead vocals, Miguelito in the lead guitar, Teemu in the drums and Markus Tiiro in the bass guitar. The album is set to be released in early 2017.In 2016 Damage Limit finally found a permanent bass player Riku. Riku has impressed the rest of the band along with live audiences with his playing and energetic live performances. With Riku in the bass and Samu now in the second guitar the band has finally found a balanced form and sound that has been noted in festivals and clubs during the summer of 2016.
Album:
Trends may come and trends may go, but some things remain the same. Like the fact that Scandinavia knows how to produce punk imbued rock n roll just about better than anywhere else on the planet.Forming in 2010, but finally getting around to producing their first record proper right here, Helsinki’s Damage Limit are proof of this.“Crank” is perfectly happy that it walks the road of Hanoi Rocks and bands from just across the way like Backyard Babies and Hellacopters – indeed we’d wager that the band are playing exactly the same sort of music that they love. There is an honesty about the seven tracks that make up this EP that can’t be faked. “Free To Believe” bursts out of the speakers with a glorious riff and it’s tempting to imagine this in a live arena where it would no doubt sound incredible, and if you aren’t singing its chorus by the second go round then you have a harder heart than MV.The template set, “Crank” doesn’t bother deviating too much, “Without You” has a raw kind of feel, while “Struck Down” is a maelstrom of thing that has a fair degree of groove and like all its brethren it knows how to do a chorus.“Graveyards”, which adds a fair degree of melody to the hook is the pick of the bunch, although “1000 Times” which essentially distils this type of rock n roll down to its brass tacks in less than four minutes, isn’t far behind. So if good things come to those who wait, then that is made true by this. Hopefully Damage Limit make it to a full length next time and hopefully it doesn’t take them so long.Either way, though, “Crank” – and any record that shares it’s name with an Almighty one gets bonus points to start with – is a fine start.
