Bio:

Who are the successors of classical composers like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven? You’ll find some of them if you listen to the themes of your favorite movies. The epic stories of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Game of Thrones and others would be nothing without the great musical pieces which are dragging you into other worlds, luring you into parallel universes. The Dark Side Of The Moon are taking the greatest themes of cinematography, TV shows, video games, and are transforming them into epic and powerful modern metal tracks. They take you on a musical quest from the depth of Moria up to the Iron Throne, descending into the inner core of those master pieces to search and find the beast inside. As every human has a dark side, so has every song. You will hear musical pieces you thought you already knew in a way you wouldn’t have thought possible.Like the moon, every song has an unexplored side. This is where the band will be taking you.It all started with a bet between Melissa and Hans. Whoever won would win a dare towards the other. Hans won and challenged Melissa do record with him a metal version of “Jenny Of Oldstones”. After hearing that one song, Napalm Records immediately signed the band to do a full album. So the band started the epic quest of transforming their and your favorite cinematic themes into powerful metal tracks! In addition the album will also have a few songs of their own and, to make this journey even more magical, they invited some of their musician friends to join them.Expect The Dark Side Of The Moon to make interstellar waves in the metal world for eons to come … !

Album:

A band that covers songs from well-known and popular film and video game soundtracks in melodic/symphonic metal style? It is relatively clear that the views of the singles released so far on YouTube are going through the roof. THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, a supergroup consisting of Jenny Diehl, Hans Platz (both FEUERSCHWANZ), Melissa Bonny (AD INFINITUM) and Morten Løwe Sørensen (AMARANTHE) didn't want to rely entirely on the qualities of others and added a few songs of their own to their debut "Metamorphosis".The band name has nothing to do with PINK FLOYD, of course. The band was founded on a bet between Bonny and Platz, which Platz won and asked Bonny to record "Jenny Of Oldstones" ("Game Of Thrones") in a dark metal garb. The rest is then history and a complete debut album developed from the fixed idea.THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON do not limit themselves to niche films, series and video games, but pay homage to many pop culture titles. It starts with "Legends Never Die". The track was originally written for AGAINST THE CURRENT's 2017 "League Of Legends" World Championship and works very well here as an album opener."Misty Mountains" comes from the "Hobbit" film trilogy and features Tom S. Englund (EVERGREY). This makes the song, which has grown into a duet, noticeably more classy, Englund's and Bonny's voices form a harmonious unit. A real highlight for "Harry Potter" fans is the medley of the world-famous "Hedwig's Theme" and "Double Trouble" (from "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"). The theme by John Williams is probably in everyone's head and is ingeniously accompanied by guitar and snappy drums. As a guest, Rusanda Panfili is on board here, as well as on other tracks, and accompanies the song with her violin. Potter and metal fans should be in seventh heaven here.Want more gaming content? With "The Wolven Storm (Priscilla's Song)" THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON ventures into one of the most emotional moments of "The Witcher" saga, more precisely the third part of the series, which is one of the best role-playing games of the last twenty years. In addition to the "Hobbit" series, "The Lord of the Rings" also receives attention with ENYA's "May It Be", here with support from Charlotte Wessels (ex-DELAIN).The wild journey through the media cosmos continues with "If I Had A Heart", which originates from FEVER RAY and is used, among other things, as the opening of the successful series "Vikings". However, the song is one of the less conspicuous ones on the album. Quite the opposite to the much more lively "The Hanging Tree" from "The Hunger Games" soundtrack by James Newton Howard, originally sung by Katniss actress Jennifer Lawrence. Here everything is right again, concise verses meet a catchy chorus and a snappy guitar solo. The album closes with the ballad "Jenny Of Oldstones", which originally comes from the much-discussed eighth season of "Game Of Thrones" and is interpreted by FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE in the credits of the corresponding episode. The band's first track thus closes the album. There is also something for the ears from their own side - "Metamorphosis".But also on the own composition front the band can score with strong songs. "The Gates Of Time" is a good symphonic metal song with excellent guitar work, which proves what Hans Platz can do on his string instrument. Melissa Bonny's voice is beyond any doubt anyway and towers majestically over this piece as well. "First Light" is rather inconspicuous, "New Horizons" on the other hand is a strong power ballad. All in all, "Metamorphosis" is a bonfire for fans of the aforementioned films, series and video games. But even apart from that, the covers and original compositions are convincing. This is hardly surprising when you consider that there are experienced musicians at work here.
