Bio:

We are the band Timeless Rage from Villingen-Schwenningen in southern Germany and we play Symphonic Power Metal. This genre perfectly covers the personal musical preferences of our six musicians. The band was founded earlier, but has been dedicated to this style since 2012 after major line-up changes. With the first EP Forecast Timeless Rage presented a strong release a short time later. Anyone who listens to this work will immediately notice that the six musicians have already put a lot of thought into giving the listeners of this genre a mix of power, melodic riffs and a lot of goosebump feeling, without letting boredom arise. The response of the audience was very positive and so we could quickly play well-attended concerts with some scene greats.Several mixed years followed with some line-up changes, which cost us a lot of time, so that we had to let many great opportunities pass by. Only since the end of 2019 we are complete and stable again as a band. Just in time for Covid and the associated lockdowns and cancelled events. The reboot: However, we used the time to work on ourselves and our songs and to finish an album with a new line-up. We have not only developed musically, but also as people. Timeless Rage are a stronger band than ever before – like a clockwork whose cogs match perfectly and are always in sync. And so we will not only be able to tie in with the band’s early successes, but surpass them. We are back!

Album:

With so much gimmicky crap clogging up the power metal scene, it’s refreshing to find a band doing something new without costumes or props or any of that shallow shit. German act Timeless Rage are fresh on the scene with 2022’s ‘Untold’ being their first recording since forgotten EP ‘Forecast’ ten years ago, and this probably wouldn’t be worth all that much if not for the addition of Dark Sky vocalist Frank Breuninger to the ranks. I fairly liked some of the later Dark Sky albums, particularly ‘Empty Faces’ and ‘Initium’, so I thought bringing in him in for ‘Untold’ was a pretty good idea. That’s mainly because Timeless Rage are a symphonic metal band with a huge keyboard presence, but they play at a fast clip with a lot of double bass, so this comes across like Bloodbound with wintry keys, and that gives it a lot of personality.‘Untold’ is a short little blast of anthemic power metal songs full of rattling double kicks, cold, tinkling synths, and Frank’s raspy but melodious vocals that are so clearly cut from early 2000s Euro power, but I don’t care; that’s what makes tunes like ‘2 Elements’, ‘Far From Home’ and the fist-pumping ‘Warrior’ so cool. The production on this is rough, but the keys lighten it up, so you get this frosty vibe running through it, even though the basic blueprint is just fast power metal that reminds me of bands like Pertness and Custard, strangely enough, with a bit of Imperial Age’s big symphonic approach. Frank’s vocals totally sell it; you wouldn’t think he had the right voice for this stuff with him coming from a hard rock background, but it adds something unique to a record full of rather standard power metal tunes. Opener ‘Far From Home’ isn’t the best introduction, sounding rougher than some of the later cuts, but they all have memorable hooks. ‘Resurrection’, ‘Ocean Twilight’, and ‘Piece Of Heaven’ are all well-written tunes, even if we have heard those melodies a thousand times before. The guitars chug a great deal and just plug along under the other unsung hero of this, keyboardist Anna Keil, who dresses up these compositions with simple but very effective synths that make you feel like you’re on some frozen ocean moon a thousand light-years away. This is a fun album that is definitely rough and ready for action, featuring a sweet split between symphonic and melodic power metal with the crusty, tuneful yowl of Frank Breuninger peddling the choruses with grit and allure. A glossier production would do wonders for this band, but if you need something short, catchy, and fast to occupy you for forty minutes, you might as well hit up Timeless Rage.
