Bio:

Visions of Atlantis is a metal band from Styria, Austria, founded in 2000. Inspiration came both from successful symphonic power metal band Nightwish and from the myth of Atlantis. The equal combination of male and female vocals distinguishes Visions of Atlantis from Nightwish however and is more reminiscent of bands such as Lacuna Coil.Fascinated by the myth of Atlantis, Werner Fiedler, Thomas Caser, Christian Stani and Chris Kamper decided in August 2000 to work out a concept inspired by the secret of Atlantis. Late in summer mezzo-soprano Nicole Bogner joined the project, and this was the birth of Visions of Atlantis. A first demo, Morning in Atlantis was released in 2000.In 2001 they signed with TTS Media Music/Black Arrow Productions, and in 2002 their first album, Eternal Endless Infinity was released. In 2003, the band saw some changes in line-up, replacing Christian Stani with Mario Plank and Chris Kamper with Miro Holly. Now with Napalm Records, which released the band’s second studio effort ”Cast Away“ worldwide in November 2004. To mark the release, Visions of Atlantis produced their first official music video to the track “Lost“, which received significant airplay on VIVA and MTV, and made it possible for the band to present the album. In early 2005, Visions of Atlantis did their tour across Europe, while being supported by labelmates Elis and Celtic rock based band Lyriel. In late 2005, Bogner left the band due to commitments elsewhere. After Nicole left the band, she was replaced by American soprano singer Melissa Ferlaak (formerly with Aesma Daeva) and Wolfgang Koch replaced Werner Fiedler. In 2006, Martin Harb, who already played with VoA on their tour in Mexico in 2003, replaced Miro Holly. In May 2007, VoA released their 3rd album Trinity, mastered at Finnvox studios and recorded at Bavarian Dreamscape Studio. The following autumn brought Visions of Atlantis to the United States, where the band toured together with Epica for 6 weeks and won numerous new fans.Upon returning, the band went through changes in the line-up. On November 28, 2007, a message was posted on the official VoA website saying that Melissa Ferlaak and Wolfgang Koch had left the band, both citing personal reasons. Following this Visions of Atlantis announced a few days later that their ex guitarist, Werner Fiedler, had rejoined the band. After Melissa's departure, Visions of Atlantis not only looked for a replacement for a singer, but also wrote the song material for the fourth album. The band was advertising on their website the position for a female vocalist for several months, and on September 3, 2008, they finally announced that they had found a new female singer; however, her identity wasn't revealed until February 1, 2009, as the 20-year-old Austrian soprano vocalist Joanna Nieniewska. On July 29, 2009, VoA announced that because of health problems, Joanna Nieniewska is no longer in the band but will continue to support VoA behind the scenes. The band announced the replacement vocalist, Maxi Nil from Greece, and was also known for her work with On Thorns I Lay, guest with Moonspell and her former band Elysion. On December 3, 2010, VoA announced the new title of their 4th studio album Delta which was released on February 25, 2011 worldwide. On July 18, 2011, bass player Mario Lochert left the band due to crucial internal differences. In a recent interview Harb said that the band is not planning on replacing him. Instead, they will continue without a bassist as a fixed band member. In August 2011, the band announced the title of their first EP Maria Magdalena, it was released on October 21, 2011.On January 6, 2012, Visions of Atlantis announced on their Facebook and MySpace pages that former singer Nicole Bogner had died at the age of 27 after fighting a severe disease over a long period of time. The band was saddened to have lost their first vocalist and expressed sincere gratitude to Bogner, not only for five years of sharing a musical vision, but also for more than a decade of friendship inside and outside Visions of Atlantis. Without Bogner, the band wouldn't have been born.On January 27, 2012, the band announced the title Ethera for their upcoming album, which was scheduled to be released in 2012. Ethera was released on March 22, 2013. It was the first album with guitarist Christian Hermsdörfer and with no official bassist.Ethera was dedicated to the late Nicole Bogner. On December 6, 2013, Visions of Atlantis announced on their Facebook page that most of the line-up was parting ways with Visions of Atlantis, leaving the only remaining and founding member Thomas Caser on Drums. This decision was mostly because of a desire from the parting members to play their own style of music, whilst the band was orientating to go back to its classic style. Thus, it welcomed back some of its old members : Werner Fiedler (guitars), Chris Kamper (synths), and Michael Koren (Bass). Maxi Nil, was replaced by Clémentine Delauney, and Mario Plank, by Siegfried Samer.

Album:

Symphonic Power Metal band VISIONS OF ATLANTIS has had a multitude of line-up changes over the years. They have never recorded a record where the band members have been consistent from one record to the next. This tradition continues as they unleash their latest record “Ethera” through Austria’s Napalm Records.Early on their style was drenched in symphonic power metal and was similar in style to NIGHTWISH. Over the years they seem to be moving away from that style and incorporating more of a modern Rock vibe and closer in style to later day LACUNA COIL. Starting with 2011s excellent release “Delta”, the band seemed to shift styles. While keeping the symphonic elements the Power Metal feel has been left behind and their song writing is better for it. What was begun on that record has now been perfected on their amazing new release “Ethera”.Vocalists Mario Plank and Maxi Nil is the perfect combination as the two play off each other brilliantly. Both singers are excellent in their own right but together they bring out the best in each other. Every song has both of them incorporating infectious melodies and harmonies; they never fight for space as their parts are divided up flawlessly. Unlike other bands that have a female and male vocal team, both singers are equally up to the task and don’t clearly outshine the other.Opener “The Ark” slams out of the gate with a haunting keyboard melody that is backed by a syncopated groove riff that will have you banging your head. Maxi’s chorus melody is one of the brightest on the record. It is captivating and gorgeous. I am so glad she doesn’t utilize the opera style vocals as her voice is powerful and crushes. The song is punctuated by an arpeggiated guitar solo that new guitarist Chris Tian executes beautifully.“Vicious Circle” showcases Mario in the intro at his most tender as he is backed by a picturesque piano piece. Maxi joins in unison as a mid paced chorus kicks in that is tremendous. Another excellent guitar solo builds the song to a tremendous outro as Maxi lets loose and shows off her amazing range.Drummer Thomas Caser shines on the slamming “Hypnotized”. A driving melodic masterpiece this is the highlight of the record and maybe of their career. This track is the accumulation of what VISIONS OF ATLANTIS can accomplish with their current line-up. A gorgeous bridge section is followed by more excellent guitar soloing and finds the two vocalists utilizing their skills to their limit. Breathtaking."Ethera" finds VISIONS OF ATLANTIS at their best. What began on their last record has been solidified and perfected here. Front to back this is the best release of their career. Let's hope they break the streak of replacing members and we see the band continue on with this line-up. The band is at their creative peak and should garner a lot of attention with this release. Another excellent Symphonic Metal release that should stand out on the strengths of the two vocalists whom are both at the top of their genre.

Album:

With "The Deep & The Dark", Visions Of Atlantis once more set sail to oceanic myths and the eternal dream of the sunken continent. The varied and fascinating voice of Clémentine Delauney provides for hauntingly beautiful duets with Siegfried Samer's classic power metal infusions, embodying the symphonic metal cake. From the grandiose album title track "The Deep & The Dark", folklore elements in "Ritual Night" to the up-tempo juggernaut "Return To Lemuria", "Visions Of Atlantis" rounds off all their facettes in this mystical adventure. But this album wouldn't be complete without a bewitching ballad! "The Last Home" belongs to one of the memorable songs these Austrians have ever composed. Says the band: "This is the album we have always dreamed of making. It is everything fans of this genre love and Visions Of Atlantis was founded for. This is the heart and soul of this band and symphonic metal. We are proud and excited that after over four years we put out the best ten tracks the band has to offer. This is Visions Of Atlantis, this is symphonic metal!”

With focus on songs from the band's latest studio album, "The Deep & The Dark", this live opus pushes the mystical adventure of VISIONS OF ATLANTIS to another level — powerful and perfectly executed."The Deep & The Dark" was released in February via Napalm Records.Vocalist Clémentine Delauney told Metal Underground about the disc: "We all do believe this is the best album the band has ever released. We went back to a more melodic and symphonic metal style with an old-school touch and a production that suits the genre. We wrote diversified songs with rich arrangements using many different influences [and] I was finally able to take part in the creative process. I wrote many of the vocal lines, most of the lyrics together with Siegfried, and I wrote the last song of the album, 'Prayer To The Lost'. So, for the first time, I'm able to release really personal material and to sing about things that deeply matter to me. I've been waiting for this since I joined my first band in 2010."In a separate interview with Distorted Sound, Clémentine spoke in more detail about the songwriting process for "The Deep & The Dark". "I feel more comfortable when I am writing lyrics when I have a melody because as a singer, it's easier to have a melody so you can let the words come out," she said. "Depending on the notes, I can see which one is more natural to sing an 'a,' another vowel or a specific word that contains a letter like a 'c' or a 't' where I know to project the sound. So, you have singing tricks that someone doesn't normally think about and sometimes, not necessarily in our music, in general the words match so well with the melody because they were created together. I like to make sure the words match the melody so it's easier for me to know the strength of the melody first and then I can shape the words and lyrics nicely to the melody rather than have a text that gets put on top of a melody, as that is difficult."

Album:

"Not all who wander are lost" - J.R.R. Tolkien. Visions of Atlantis have set their creative sails higher than ever! The maritime discovery journey of the symphonic metal sextet - featuring exceptional singer Clémentine Delauney - is brilliantly linked to their globally successful 2018 masterpiece "The Deep & The Dark". "Wanderers" has everything, is everything and therefore can do everything. Whether epic, romantic, mysterious, dark, powerful, emotional, intimate, passionate, exotic, melodic or poetic - these fantastic songs are and always will be unforgettable. The deeply touching male-female vocal duets of Delauney and Michele Guaitoli captivate. Thematically, the album is a fabulous trip around the globe that could also be celebrated in your own heart, with exciting, unruly eventful stories about vast seas and oceans, always on the very best course for self-discovery. You can easily hear it from every note played and every octave sung: Visions of Atlantis feel completely free and give their art a correspondingly wild pulse. But in everything, the heart of the band is just as free and open as when they discover and learn, ultimately becoming an even greater self.

Album:

With their latest chart-topping studio album, "Wanderers" (2019), and the recent release of their first ever live BluRay/DVD, "A Symphonic Journey To Remember", symphonic metal visionaries Visions Of Atlantis have, without a doubt, proven that they are on top of the scene. Now, the band sets sail on another adventurous journey and new exciting chapter, marking a turning point of their discography with the upcoming album, "Pirates". With the eighth full-length, Visions Of Atlantis delivers its most confident and honest record so far, proving the guys have definitely stopped wandering to finally unleash their rebellious side and a free spirit untamed as the seven seas. The band invites its listener to join on a marvelous ride through intriguing soundscapes and hauntingly beautiful melodies along with smashing symphonic heaviness, that musically and lyrically embodies a form of transition and self-discovery. "Pirates" boldly opens the door to not only the light parts in life, but is lurking with darker aspects as well, embracing to accept and experience it! With a team consisting of vocalists Clémentine Delauney and Michele Guaitoli as well as producer Felix Heldt, Visions Of Atlantis managed to secure a firm writing crew and shift the musical identity to braver structures and a new world that is way more complex - something that is going to be the new trademarks of the band. The album pulls the anchor with the epic opener "Pirates Will Return", which instantly enchants with its hymnlike chorus and showcases the high-class versatility from the very first second. In the blink of an eye, Visions Of Atlantis manages to create its very own incomparable universe of symphonic epicness, intense riffing and, above all, the impressive vocal symbiosis of Clémetine Delauney and Michele Guaitoli. Delauney’s bewitching offerings oscillate between clear vocals, powerful belting and operatic techniques, whereas matchless counterpart Guaitoli adds spice with top-notch power metal infusions. "Pirates" presses ahead with catchy hooklines, like in mighty "Melancholy Angel", rousing "Clocks", charging "Wild Elysium" and majestic "Master The Hurricane" - the latter of which will make every symphonic metal enthusiast's heart pound faster through its perfectly balanced mixture of dramatic choirs, heavy orchestration and dedicated vocals. With "Legion Of The Seas", Visions Of Atlantis presents its heaviest side so far without losing the inimitable feeling for creating dreamlike symphonic melodies. "Pirates" reaches the harbour for now with mesmerizing "I Will Be Gone", building up a dramatic wall of sound accented by harmonizing flutes and bagpipes, delivered by no less than Feuerschwanz virtuoso Ben Metzner, who joins also on "In My World", "Master The Hurricane" and "Heal The Scars".This emotive twelve track experience allows you to taste the salt of the sea in the air and embrace the wilderness that only true pirates know!
