Bio:

In early January 2014, Kenziner signed a publishing contract with Power Prog, beginning a new era for the band. Kenziner aims to transform from the studio band that it has been up to now into a real touring act, creating music that is challenging and interesting for their fans.2013 - During the winter 2012 – 2013, Kenziner recorded their upcoming album. Having finished the recordings in September 2013, the band took the album to Sonic Pump Studios (Helsinki), and mixed their new masterpiece with Nino Laurenne (Thunderstone).2012 - In 2012, Keskinen decided to revive Kenziner and begun gathering a band around himself. He started by hiring Markku Kuikka (Status Minor, The Ragged Saints, etc.) as the singer, and through Markku, found also the rest of the members: the new line-up features Jukka Karinen (Thunderstone, Status Minor, etc.) on the keyboards, Make Lievonen (Embassy of Silence) on the drums and Jupi Hjelt on the bass. While the new line-up was being built, Jarno and Markku arranged Jarno’s new compositions for the upcoming album. As the songs took shape, it became clear that a new album will play a major part in Kenziner’s comeback.Neoclassical guitar work and strong melodies have always laid the foundation for Kenziner’s music. The new line-up gave Jarno much better musical freedom because the music could be arranged in Finland, with the group working on the songs together.2000-2004 - Jarno was also looking for other musical opportunities and founded Virtuocity in year 2000. The band played power metal and recorded two albums. The first one, Secret Visions, saw daylight in 2001 but shortly after the release of Northern Twilight Symphony (2004) the band split, leading to Jarno’s decision to withdraw from active work on music for almost ten years.1999 - Jarno recorded his second album for Leviathan Records in 1999. The Prophecies was released all over the world and drew more and more attention to Keskinen’s neoclassical style in metal media. (Metal Hammer, Rock Hard, etc.) This time also another famous Finnish musician, Mikko Härkin (ex-Sonata Arctica, Wingdom) was featured in the studio line-up, alongside with Stephen Frederick and Brian Harris. Soon after the release of Prophecies, Jarno broke up with the label and Kenziner was hibernated for years to come.1998 - For years, Jarno Keskinen had been in contact with David Chastain of Leviathan Records, sending him his songs on c-cassettes. One day Jarno got a phone call from the USA: Chastain was offering Jarno a record deal and soon Jarno was on the plane, on his way to record his first album at Chastain’s studio. All the guitars, bass and keyboards were recorded by Jarno. Stephen Frederick (vocals) and Dennis Lesh (drums) joined to help Keskinen at the studio. Kenziner’s debut album, Timescape, was born and Jarno rose to fame as a master of neoclassical metal guitar.

Album:

The brand new album of legendary Finnish band KENZINER, is promoted and quoted as the great comeback of the year by their new record company, indeed I have serious expectations for this “The Last Horizon”, let’s examine this album's attributes point by point.KENZINER was indeed considered as a very promising band in the late 90’s, it helps to build the solid foundations of the fascinating Project VIRTUOCITY (R.I.P.), their two albums “Timescape” & “The Prophecies” respectively released in 1998/99 were fantastic back then, and clearly at the most innovating edge of the flourishing new born Melodic Metal scene of the early 2000, the style was highly tagged in the Malmsteenian / Scandinavian Neo-Classical Metal full of spectacular Shreddin’ guitars, fast paced double kick drums, extremely challenging structures, weird patterns in the rhythmic shifts and high technical vocal parts in the same method of ARTENSION / ENIAC REQUIEM / ADAGIO / WARMEN or RING OF FIRE.After fifteen years of split retreat and many years of a complete withdrawal from the Metal music business, in 2012, ex-VIRTUOCITY's mastermind/Guitar maestro Jarno Keskinen aka Jaron Sebastian Raven decided to resurrected KENZINER with the help of the heavenly talented singer Markku Kuikka (STATUS MINOR / THE RAGGED SAINTS / ex-GRÖNHOLM) in order to give to the legacy of KENZINER a worthy successor, the Finnish virtuoso then restarted the shredding machine and once again the balanced between Progressive complexity/Euro Power Metal's aggressiveness & typical Baroque lead guitars merged with harpsichords parts are perfectly crafted, the proud, strong and fierce vocals are in an obvious similarly with the aforementioned acts…With maybe a different impact in consequence of their sharp riffing approach like SYMPHONY X ("End Of An Era" / "Heroes Ride").Mixed by Nino Laurenne (THUNDERSTONE / BATTLE BEAST) at Sonic Pump Studios, obviously the Production is another high-end factor for a crisp dynamic sound in perfect concordance with the impressive songwriting and performances of “The Last Horizon”. Of course the team of players is a highly skilled bunch of musicians, with a constant ultra-difficult level and hyper tight delivery, acrobatic synchronization and precision madness could have been the best superlative to summarize for this CD.After the superb and highly exciting slab of releases in 2013, the new German label Power Prog is about to demonstrated once again to the skeptical world -full of bitter unbelievers- that the cleverest kind of music ever played: The almighty Scandinavian Melodic Metal revealed in its pure and genuine integrity, is still alive and kicking today.

Album:

Kenziner, from FINLAND, are ready to unleash their new beast, entitled PHOENIX, available on PURE STEEL RECORDS on June 26th.PHONEX is the fourth album by the band following THE LAST HORIZON, out in 2014.After their two classic albums in 1998 and 1999, it took them a few years to return to the scene in 2014 with their third album.Since then, mastermind Jarno Keskinen had to involve a new singer, Peter "Zinny" Zalesky. The classic keyboard sounds as well as the guitars in Power Metal mood, but their style is many things more.An extremely balanced production, powerful and strong, brings out vocals, evocatives and with a large range of solutions, and, in total, leaves nothing to be desired.KENZINER also are able to provide good musicality and positive vibes, without forgetting high quality and complex textures.EYE OF HORUS is the first attack, structured and powerful, with brilliant vocals and awesome solo parts divided between guitar and keyboards.Long runaways in LISTEN TO THE DEVIL, while in SHADOW OF THE MOON the riffing is more pressing; keyboards provide the right touch of musicality.. anyway all sounds fresh and flows with our pleasure.Great musicality in TEARS OF DESTINY, while THE MIRROR shows solutions closer to contemporary Power Metal.Grandiloquent OSIRIS RISING, reminding in the first slice the epic touch of Dio and first Rainbow, and providing in the second part a great dose of melody; agains to remark the solo parts. They go on with CURSE OF THE PHARAOH and TO HELL AND BACK, with its 80’s touch.PHOENIX RISING shows sharp riffs while THE MIRACLE, a various song which exalts the ability of singer PETER ZALESKY, ends in the best way this great platter.SURELY TO SUGGEST, KENZINER ARE BACK AT THEIR BEST!

Line Up:

Peter "Zinny" Zalesky - Vocals (2018-present) - See also: ex-Boguslaw Balcerak's Crylord, ex-Dragon's Eye
