Bio:

In early 2010 the metal world witnessed the birth of Reverence, co-founding by (guitarist/songwriter) Bryan Holland and (vocalist/songwriter) Todd Michael Hall, these two musicians hatched a plan to form a new power metal band. Bryan and Todd had a instant brotherhood and the songs started flowing.Bryan, best known as lead guitarist for NWOBHM legends Tokyo Blade and Arrest. Bryan has recorded several studio albums and European tours, Tokyo Blade ended. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, find a versatile soaring vocalist and add some unstoppable riffs, screaming leads and crushing rhythms...Todd Michael Hall gained notoriety with his 4 octave range and is best known as the vocalist for Jack Starr's Burning Starr and Riot V. Todd has recorded several studio albums and toured throughout Europe. "I stumbled upon Todd's website and I knew right then and there I had found the perfect voice," stated Bryan. When it came to a rhythm section, the choice was simple, Bryan continued, "I have been friends with Steve 'Doc.Killdrums' Wacholz for years and we always wanted to play together but the time was never right, until now!" (founding member of Savatage, Crimson Glory). We needed a fun yet kick ass, bassist, so entered Michael Massie, who has played with Chocking Susan and Overloaded. The last pieces of the puzzle arrived, (guitarist), Pete Rossi. "Doc had played with Pete in another project,so he came highly recommended and after a quick audition, it was clear, Pete fit perfectly into our style" Bryan declared.

Album:

REVERENCE was brought to life in 2010, so this band is a new be, but the members certainly aren’t since REVERENCE features members from: TOKYO BLADE, SAVATAGE, CRIMSON GLORY and JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR. So REVERENCE’s a band that does contain a lot of experience and that does show very clearly on their heavy power metal debut album “When Darkness Calls”, brought through Razar Ice Records. Lucky me that I did get the chance to listen to this kick ass album and write a review.Being experienced doesn’t always mean being able to put down a great album, but in this case it does, also because the chemistry between the members of REVERENCE does feel sincere and very powerful. And chemistry together isn’t something you can just buy. It’s simply not always there, no matter how experienced members are, but when the team chemistry between the members is there, the music gains an extra dimension and that’s always a treat for the listener in special at live concerts.REVERENCE did put down a powerful heavy and passionate album with “When Darkness Calls”. According to their Facebook page they like JUDAS PRIEST, DIO, PRIMAL FEAR, SAVATAGE and QUEENSRYCH and that shows. Not that REVERENCE does sound like any of them, but because their sound can be found somewhere in between all of them with their own sound. A sound that makes this Metal head happy. So weird that sometimes music can make me feel more at home than people can. Have been to strange places where I had never been before, but where I felt at home right away because they played the music I love. Well that’s how “When Darkness Calls” made me feel right from the start. At home.“When Darkness Calls” contains great bass work, wonderful guitar work, smashing drum work, amazing vocal work and chemistry teamwork, brought together in a tour through dark places and over Heavy Metal roads on a powerful motorcycle to make you feel the hot, the cold and wind rush by while riding the powerful steel horse touring the places where darkness calls. Every song has its own strength to hold water and stand, giving this album the energy to grow your hair and let the wind rush by. Guess that REVERENCE did get me hooked with their masterpiece called “When Darkness Calls”.

Album:

Recent years have found the Euro-power metal scene striding forward, as band after band emerge to vie for the crown of power metal masters. And yet, there's an argument that the few US outfits who have really made this style their own, actually do it better and with much more guile. Hence when Reverence ambushed us with When Darkness Calls in 2012, there really was reason to rejoice. A US act arriving to breathe new life into a sound that while steeped in the same heritage as those Euro bands, adds that little something that is unmistakably American and unmistakably classy.Three years later and with a lot to live up to, the band with links to Riot V, Jack Starr's Burning Starr, Tokyo Blade, Arrest, Savatage, Crimson Glory, Overland, Sanxtion and Inner Recipe return with Gods Of War. From the off it's crystal clear that Reverence aren't here to mess about, the album's opening title cut the sort of introduction many a more renowned act would give their riffing arm for. However from there what really hits home is that there's no fat around the edges of Gods Of War, every track a prime cut that leaves a succulent full flavour for many an hour afterwards. "Until My Dying Breath" punches hard, staccato guitar barking and biting ferociously, while the confident march of "Angel In Black" is a serious smash of power and drama all brought together through the peerless vocals of Todd Michael Hall – a singer who unsurprisingly has found himself much in demand since the Reverence debut made such an impact. However the guitar pair and writing duo of Bryan Holland and Pete Rossi match Hall every step of the way, the likes of "Heart Of Gold" possessing a scything twin guitar barrage and buzz-saw riff that a certain Maidens of Iron seem to shy away from these days, while the vocal arrangement in the chorus is simply jaw dropping.Bassist Michael Massie didn't feature on the band's debut, joining not long after but here he proves his worth, meshing seamlessly with the machine gun drumming from Steve 'Doc Killdrums' Wacholz, who is faultless throughout. And it's this confident power-house rhythm section which really allows the songs to reach the level of assertive maturity they do. "Choices Made" is a clever change of pace and focus, "Blood Of Heroes" on the other hand shows an ability to alter the pace not only from track to track, but within the same song; something many bands could take a leaf from. While "Splinter" slows things down, the frenetic pace intentionally checked to add shade to the blinding light found elsewhere. However having the ability to close out the album with the full force double hit of "Cleansed By Fire" and "Race To Obscene" proves the quality of this band once and for all.Gods Of War is an album that delivers from start to finish, inflicting immense punches of power metal majesty through every intricate twist and turn and leaving you genuinely amazed by the standard of what you've just heard. I'm not sure if Reverence are Gods Of War, but they're sure as hell masters of metal!

Album:

Melodic power metallers Reverence are back in business with a brand new EP which is entitled "Foreverence". Foreverence is a tribute to their guitarist Pete Rossi, who passed away unexpectedly last March. The EP is the follow-up to 2015’s Gods Of War and it will, also, feature two bonus tracks from their up and coming live CD, due out in early 2018.After the emotional intro of "Foreverence", it comes the first song of this brand new EP; "Firelord" and Reverence delivers a monster melodic power metal song. Aggressive, powerful, technical and 100% metal, this one must be played on maximum volume."Phoenix Rising" is just killer!! Faster, bigger and with this late 80's melodic metal vibe, "Phoenix Rising" is really huge! "New Order" includes a bad-ass groove in it and "Sleep" is a nice and very melodic ballad. The instrumental "Final Flight, RIP PJR" is a must hear for every guitar-maniac out there! Speechless!!!!For those of you who love the late 80's early 90's, melodic metal sound, this EP is just pure candy to your ears. Reverence is a band that delivers 100% pure ass-kickin' melodic metal stuff, period!!! Buy or die!

Album:

American power metal ‘supergroup’ Reverence have been grinding out their particular brand of traditionally-inclined sturm und drang for some while now; two full-length studio efforts and a clutch of single and EP releases means they have more than enough material for that most metal of time-buyers… the live album. And, whilst it’s certainly got crowd noises on it, the sketchy reference material that accompanies the release is no more forthcoming. So we’ll take on trust that the former members of Tokyo Blade (guitarist Bryan Holland was in a version of that band that recorded a live album in Germany a decade ago), Savatage and Crimson Glory (Steve ‘Dr Killdrums’ Wacholz) who comprise this supergroup were indeed ripping it up in front of an adoring audience somewhere in the world of metal…But enough of the carping. Vengeance… is actually a pretty appealing collection of Reverence originals (Angel in Black and a particularly heavy Too Late are both impressive early-set inclusions) with a couple of enticing covers thrown in from Iron Maiden and Savatage for good measure. Bleed for Me, the band’s best track by some way is given a thoroughly convincing reading here, with new vocalist Scott Oliva acquitting himself in the wake of the departure of the not-so-sorely-missed-as-I-expected Todd Michael Hall (now, of course, to be found tickling his tonsils with Riot V). Seriously, on this form Reverence are easily up there with the big names currently extant in American power metal.A new album is slated for release next year, which will hopefully see the band able to step out from the shadows of their previous band affiliations to stand on their own ten feet. On the evidence of these storming live tracks they are certainly ready to do so, and I look forward to hearing what they come up with on that release!
