Windrow is an Italian melodic power metal band that was formed back in 2002.

Album:

The fifth album of Power Metallers from Rome called Windrow is a good album in outline, but penalized for all 49 minutes of duration by a series of inaccuracies in details that make the album much more niche and less salable than the one could be, and it's a shame as the instrumental technical performance, especially of the lead guitar, is not bad for all "Executive Countdown" that can make us listen to the beautiful solo escapes.In fact, just listen to "Over wild" to understand what's wrong: the sound quality for some strange reason sacrifices the rhythm guitar and makes the sound of this CD very thin, but it is above all the voice that sometimes does not sound precise and too shaky in certain highs, as if the singer was unable to sing on sonorities too high for him. To all this is added a musical personality is not excellent for a band that is now on the fifth album, and that more often than not relegate the songs like this to a simple tribute to Helloween or Edguy. And if listening to "Live out" confirms these inaccuracies, it is clear with the following songs that the Windrows use (and misuse a little) too much these stylistic choices without having or show the ability to do anything else in their tracks. It is an example of this "World collides", a song that plays the card of the slow but choppy and melodic tempo, and that still sees the singer going to end on very high voices without there being a real need. That said, from now on the next part of the album becomes more listenable, both because you get used to the sound, and because there is a better balance of the parts that bring out the sixth, the seventh and the ninth song, but is the tenth song, which proposes a meditative ballad, to highlight the defects of the sung, with vocal lines chosen too long and taking too many notes, making the various parts difficult to memorize or sing, a sign that beyond a certain impact, Windrow does not shine for the effectiveness of the sung.In short: "Executive countdown" is not an odious record, but because of the aforementioned defects, it plays me niche and also wastes a lot of potential. Abnormal situation for a band that, incredibly, arrived at the fifth album does not yet know how to exploit it optimally, and since the competition around is very fierce in this genre, there is the great possibility that this album pales when compared with others from underground groups, both Italian and foreign. Purchase recommended only to lovers of power metal.

Throught years made their trademark with epic, powerful, melodic and glorious sound, growing up to the new Italian power metal scene.

An Album That Is Indispensable From The Previous 5 In Their Career, That Will Be Remembered For Any Lover Of This Beautiful Subgenre And Well They Are Back With Their Sixth Studio Album, Again To Offer What They Like, Which Is To Make Music And Share It With The World, Because Then They Make More Than Clear That They Are Here Not For Money But For Love, Not Like Other Bands Or Projects That If They Don't Get Money They Threaten To Disband Or Not Continue, Ha! As If The World Lived On Them, So These Italians Deserve My Recognition For Their Constance, Strength, Perseverance And Humility, Not Just Anyone Can Do That.on This Album We Are Going To Find A Much Improved Sound, Mixes That Do Justice To His Style And Compositions, His Style Has Also Become A Little More Hardened, Tipping The Balance On The Side Of Power Metal In Most Of Its 14 Tracks.his Style Had Focused More On The Melodic heavy metal With Some Tracks From Power Metal, But That His Poor Production Didn't Let His Potential And Quality Come Out,the Album Was Finished In 2022, But They Have Spent 2 Years Trying To Improve It Within The Limitations Imposed By A Self-financed Work, With Very Good Results.‘shades Of Power’ Is The Basic Intro And It Is A Soft Melody With Pino's Voice And The Company Of A Piano. ‘Overcome Your Fears’ Is The First Of The 14 Tracks They Offer, Launching From The Start With Attractive Choruses That Hook Within The First Few Seconds And Bring Some Influence From Brazil's Angra, Even With A Certain Progressive Touch, Discreet Keyboards Complement Their Harmonies, Plus A Good Bivrato In Pino's Voice. ‘Humanity’ Is Another Hook Of Fantastic Harmonies In The Instrumental Part, With A Plethoric Guglielmo When It Comes To Putting Together Harmonies, Notoriously Influenced By Helloween, This Time Pino's Voice Loses A Bit Of Harmony In Some Verses Despite His Vocal Capacity Which Covers Well The Needs Of Power Metal.‘Untouchables’ Takes Us Back To The Early Days Of The Band, Where Heavy Metal Predominated, In My Opinion It's Not Bad, I Just Let It Go Because It's Not A Style I'm Passionate About. ‘Breathe Of Life’ Gets A Bit Harder, But Still Keeping Within The Melodic Heavy Metal, Commanded By Guglielmo's Guitar Who Knows How To Pull Out Heavy And Riding Riffs.Things Get Better, For Me Of Course, This Time With ‘A Millions Stars’, As They Retake The Essence Of Power Metal, Although It Moves At Mid Tempo, Its Melody Knows How To Express In Its Harmonies That Attitude Of Energy And Optimism, Besides I'm Impressed By How Pino Conducts Himself When Singing, Modulating Vocal Harmonies With A Touch Of Melancholy That Makes My Skin Crawl.we Go Now With ‘The Last Legion’ Which Brings Us A Rhythm Of Power Metal With A Good Instrumental Execution And Chorus, Offering Good Rhythm Changes That Are Interesting, Although This Time My Impression Is That The Voice Of Pino, Fails To Fit At All In Some Verses, Losing Harmony All Together. ‘Wake Of Time’ Seems To Me A Cut That Lacks Spark Or That Something Is Missing, Although Its Melody Has Its Good Moments, It Leaves Me Waiting For Something More. Things Improve A Little In ‘Lady Of Blood’ With A Heavy Metal Convincing For Its Harmonies And Its Heavy Ambience, The Keyboards Which Include Achieve A Fantasy Aspect, It Is Pleasing For Me To Find Pieces Of This Style That I Find Attractive And That Is Thanks To The Harmonies Of Guglielmo On The Guitar That Takes A Lot Of Merit.‘show How You Are’ Is A Piece That Offers Some Interesting Things, Starting Off With A Rhythm In The Style Of German Power Metal, To Then Return To Their Country With That Classic Touch Of The Italians With Power Metal Sprinkled With Progressive Metal, The Keyboards Are An Ingredient That Endows It With More Harmony In Its Interventions.‘Ride Out’ Is A Cut That Seems To Me To Be More Of A Filler, Without Much Spark With A Predictable Rhythm, Which I Can Do Without. We Continue Towards The End With ‘Endless March’ Where Things Improve, Taking Us To A Melodic Heavy Metal, But Sounding Solid And Compact Due To Its Rhythmic Base Which Includes A Double Bass Drum By Ugo And Pino Playing A Magnificent Role With His Voice.in The Final Block There Are 2 Tracks Left, ‘Against The End’ Is A Piece That Brings Back The Purity Of Power Metal With Its Fast Guitar Harmonies, A Fluid Rhythmic Base And Constant Rhythmic Changes Between Drums And Bass, Pino Again Takes Control On Vocals, Letting Us Feel His Out And Power And Some Impressive High Notes. Their Last Card Is With ‘Faith’ A Soft Piece Made Of Piano And Pino's Voice, Which Personally Is Not Much To My Liking. So In Summary Friends, A Band That Shows A Great Advance In Their Proposal, But They Still Have To Keep Working, With This They Will Surely Leave The Underground.
