Tierra Santa is a Spanish heavy metal band from La Rioja, Spain. The band was formed in 1997 by Ángel, Arturo, Roberto, Iñaki and Tomy, and the band released their debut album Medieval that same year. Later they began to tour with Avalanch and Mägo de Oz, mainly in Spain. In 2004 they toured through the United States for the first time.TIERRA SANTA was formed in 1997 in their hometown region of La Rioja in Spain. Described as a mix between IRON MAIDEN and HAMMERFALL, this Spanish Power Metal band is immensely popular in Spain, consistently hitting the top 10 charts. They released their first album, 'Medieval', in 1998, which instantly became popular throughout Spain, and led them to the finals of the Navarra/Rioja Imagina-Rock contest.The band launched their promotional tour playing with AVALANCH and opening for DIO during his tour in Spain. By the end of the year, TIERRA SANTA signed with Locomotive Music and in April 1999, Locomotive Music released 'Legendario'. TIERRA SANTA launched their second promotional tour throughout Spain giving dynamically tight live performances.In July 1999, they were part of a tribute album to IRON MAIDEN, 'Transilvania', along with other Spanish groups such as MAGO DE OZ, EASY RYDER, AEROBITCH, AVALANCH, LUJURIA, PYRAMID, ANKHARA, GRASS, SKUNK D.F., TEA, and others. They recorded "Flight of the Icarus" at Madrid's Box Studios. The national and international reviewers consider this track as one of the best on the album.In October 1999, due to the limited distribution of the first album ´Medieval´, Locomotive Music remastered and republished it.featuring excellent vocals and fantastic guitar work, this album is available in limited-edition digipack format.Their third album, 'Tierras De Leyenda' is a barrage of outstanding melodic power metal. Full of pure talent and energy, this is classy power metal.

Esencia is the tenth studio album by the Spanish heavy metal band Tierra Santa and was released in 2014 by the Maldito Records label.The recordings of this record were made at Estudios Sonido XXI in Galar, Navarra, Spain, starting in the November 2013 and ending a month later, it was produced by Javier San Martín. Guitarists Eduardo Zamora, Natxo Zabala and Jon Zagalaz participated in the recording of this production. The album could be classified as a compilation, since it contains songs from previous productions of the group, only that they were re-recorded. This album was published on March 4 from 2014 and is divided into two compact discs: one with electric songs and the other with acoustic themes. Two Esencia singles were released: "The pirate's song" and "The song of the sirens", belonging to discs one and two respectively.

The next album of the Tierra Santa called "Quinto Elemento" will see the light next Friday, October 6 through Maldito Records.This "Quinto Elemento" is an album composed by ten songs signed by Angel San Juan. It is the eleventh studio release of the La Rioja combo, has been recorded and mixed in the Sonido XXI studio by Javier San Martín and later mastered in Crossfade Mastering by Enrique Soriano. The production has been run by Ángel San Juan himself with Javier San Martín.

TIERRA SANTA started in 1997 as a clearly Spanish answer to IRON MAIDEN. Their first albums up to "Indomable" rotate at intervals in my player. After that I lost track of the band from Logroño, La Rioja. I only read that since 2004 they've been moving more and more in the direction of RAINBOW. Of course, the Spaniards were able to prove their wide range of skills and their knack for wonderful power/heavy melodies in this area, even though the first mentioned NWOBHM greatness was noticeably better suited to this troupe. If you don't believe it, listen to the creative phase from "Medieval" to "Sangre de reyes". Since my fable for metal sung in the Spanish language knows no bounds, I was even more pleased when the latest album "Destino" arrived in my mailbox. After all these years, could the guys inspire the reviewer again and trigger old roots in him?SARATOGA and TIERRA SANTA belong to the spearheads of pure-bred representatives in the field of Heavy/Power Metal. While other well-known bands in Spain mostly build on a mixed form, these two bands have remained true to their roots and, with a few outliers, have so far offered good songs that have caused a sensation in their home country.Everything stayed the same? Not necessarily! The Ombrés still build on the roots, or rather on the IRON MAIDEN influences again, even if they have been decimated, as was already the case with "Indomable". Exactly on this album, the power rockers pick up again and play a thoroughly convincing programme. Sharp melodies and skilful banger rhythms rotate in a continuous loop out of the speakers and know how to convince Heavy/Power Metal.Senior Ángel San Juan offers his well-known vocal style, which could inspire many fans over the years, so the mixture on the latest album sounds wonderfully refreshing. However, this is not only due to the singer, no, the band uses the rhythm of well-known heavy metal bands and spices up the power soup with their own innovations. It goes without saying that the vocals fit perfectly to the gritty, riff-driven metal of this band. TIERRA SANTA have lost none of their bite over the years.More solid numbers like the hymn-like "El poder de la tormenta" know how to delight the listener with charms. Especially with such numbers, the Spaniards have always played out all their charms and put the fan into a pleasant frenzy. And on top of that, the Maiden melodies have been implemented with fresh accents, which dominantly invite you to freak out, especially on the title track. In my opinion, TIERRA SANTA have found their way back to their old strength and by returning to their early creative phase, primarily between "Sangre de Reyes" and "Indomable", the guys pick up where they left off with their latest work and inspire their fan community with a relaxed attitude.Of course, the boundaries between power and heavy metal are not quite clear on "Destino", which is a good thing, because the musicians are always at their best when they offer a polygamous game. Accordingly, driving uptempo numbers like the title track, "Pecado de ángel" or "Mi Libertad" are completely typical TIERRA SANTA songs that could have been on legendary records like "Legendario" or "Tierras de leyenda". In the course of this record, one is constantly reminded of these works anyway. The Spaniards have tasted blood again and are playing noticeably harder and this knows how to entertain the power/heavy friend through the bank and will hardly let him sit still. This means, enjoy the newest album and of course save the last works.Conclusion: "Destino" by TIERRA SANTA may be a throwback, but it sounds wonderfully refreshing in the year 2022.
