Heavy/Speed Metal band from Bergamo (Lombardy), Italy; formed in 1982.Initially active from 1982 to 1990.Reactivated around 2022/2023.Bergamo-based metal band Touch of Devil, who, after an extremely promising start marked by the release of an acclaimed demo in 1985 (Demon Steel), recordings at Judas Priest’s Dave Holland’s studio in Ibiza, a concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, and various appearances at local festivals, for various reasons, surprisingly, threw in the towel in 1989, and their name was consigned to oblivion, destined to remain a memory in the minds of old fans of traditional Italian heavy metal.Then, in 2023, the revival: spurred on by the band’s former drummer, Beppe Abati—the blond-haired, curly-haired guy who stood out in the ’80s photos—a concert was organized in the heart of the Bergamo area to celebrate, precisely, the return of Touch of Devil to the live stage at the Druso in Ranica on February 12. Crisalide, Lifebreath, and Sharada also performed at that well-attended evening (live report here). On that occasion (interview here), the band announced that they were working on new material with the intention of releasing an album—the first of their career—as soon as certain circumstances fell into place.The band played at the Italian Rock Invasion Festival at the Hammersmith Odeon in London with the bands Fil di Ferro and Dario Mollo's Crossbones. A recording of the show was aired on Italy's Rock a Mezzanotte TV program.After Roberto Stracquadaini was amicably replaced by Paolo Reggio in 1982, he became their manager.

Great album by the legendary metal band from Bergamo is available on CD now in 2026 through AUA Records.From the original Touch of Devil lineup, singer Alberto Lorenzi and guitarist Frank Kalabro remain. Joining them are Alberto Macconi on guitar, Luca Paletta on bass, and Paolo Carrescia on drums. It should be emphasized, however as noted in the booklet that Touch of Devil remains a family; it is no coincidence that Nicola Colaci, Manuel Schiavone, Mattia Jose Santoro, and the band’s additional member Davide Bordoni are all given special thanks.Musically, what one would expect from a group of veterans obsessed with classic metal comes through loud and clear: no drastic departure from the roots that gave life to the seven tracks that ended up on *Demon Steel*, but a natural and necessary adaptation to the times in terms of production and sound.Starting with the first track,“Blind in My Mind,” we’re treated to ultra-classic rhythms, born of the finest 1980s tradition, with just the right amount of aggression interspersed with that melody which Venom aside has been an essential element of any orthodox composition since the days of the NWOBHM. Old-school headbanging is guaranteed by the following “Land of the Wolves,” but the lion’s share - oops, the wolf’s share - goes to “Evil Sun,” an epic track with an ancient spirit that skillfully employs both the stick and the carrot. For this writer, the highlight of the album. The nods to ’80s hard rock unleashed by “The Sweet Face of Hate” are noteworthy, just as “Father” is a full-fledged tribute to the legacy of Ronnie James Dio. The album closes on the notes of the intense “The Eagle Never Glides,” a true declaration of intent.Evil Sun: solid, old-school metal that never gets old, without any pretensions of rewriting music history, of course.
