Bio:

Stormzone is a heavy metal band from Northern Ireland, formed in 2006 by ex-Sweet Savage members vocalist John 'Harv' Harbinson and drummer Davy Bates. Sweet Savage will mostly be recognised as the band from which guitarist Vivian Campbell joined Ronnie James Dio. Metallica also recorded the Sweet Savage song 'Killing Time' as the B side of their 'The Unforgiven' single. The Stormzone line-up contains the following members: John 'Harv' Harbinson - Lead Vocals Steve Moore - Guitars Davy Bates - Drums Graham McNulty - Bass Dave Shields - Guitars...Stormzone quickly signed to UK label Escape Music and released their debut album, 'Caught in the act' in 2007. This album also achieved a Japanese release through Marquee/Avalon and featured cover artwork by the legendary Rodney Matthews. Rodney had previously created album covers for Thin Lizzy, Diamond Head, Magnum and Praying Mantis. In March 2008 Stormzone was invited to play with Dokken guitarist George Lynch on his European tour. The band would play as support and then return to the stage as headliners each night as George Lynch's band. This led to a great reception especially in Spain where they have returned several times touring with Cinderella, Sryper, LA Guns and Y&T. They have also played at Spain's biggest rock festival, Lorca Rock. In 2009 Stormzone was invited to play at the Sweden Rock festival where they played on the Zeppelin stage just after Sabaton. A great performance gained them the interest of a representative from German label SPV and they signed to Olly Hahn's company in early 2010. This led to the release of the second Stormzone album, 'Death Dealer', which also saw the band take a heavier approach to song-writing. This led to very positive reviews all over Europe and Stormzone was quickly getting a reputation as fore-runners of the NNWOBHM (New New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). 'Death Dealer' was co-produced by the creator of the NWOBHM, Neal Kay, the legendary metal dj who brought Iron Maiden to the attention of their first deals. A tour of the UK with Tesla came next, then shows with White Lion and Winger followed up by invitations to play at Raismesfest in France, Headbangers Open Air in Germany and then their biggest show so far, last year's Wacken Open Air festival. This very promptly encouraged SPV to release the third Stormzone album shortly after Wacken, and 'Zero To Rage' hit the review pages very positively in November 2011. Afterwards the band hit the road again with Sebastian Bach, played their own headlining shows in Ireland then supported Little Angels as well as playing the Metal Masters festival in Jaen, Spain and, most recently, playing a devastating set at Germany’s Metal Assault III festival.Stormzone have maintained their NWOBHM roots and the band is influenced by metal acts such as Saxon, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Queensryche and reviews of Death Dealer and Zero To Rage have seen comparisons also to Hammerfall and Helloween. The band are also in contention to have Stormzone music on an Irish/American production of a movie based on the warrior Cuchulainn. Having now signed a long-term management agreement with Blink Management in Northern Ireland and working closely with Gabriel Booking and Management for mainland Europe Stormzone is now convinced that this will also enhance the band’s profile during what should be a very busy and productive year keeping the spirit of the NWOBHM alive!

Album:

Out today, 3rd August via Metal Nations Records, Seven Sins is the fifth album from Northern Ireland’s Stormzone; featuring 12 brand new studio tracks sure to please fans of classic heavy metal having already went down a storm with the hard rock and metal media over the past couple of months.

“…in ‘Seven Sins’ Stormzone have produced an album of ambition, scope and depth and one which shows a band mature enough to take on new challenges with aplomb and confidence.”
Planet Mosh

‘…a monster of an album has been unearthed here, which deserves to be on the frontline of the metal revolution.”
My Global Mind

“…this is a major contender of the most enjoyable album of the year in this sub-genre.”
Ave Noctum

“…heavy metal as it should be, intelligent, loud, proud and ripe for multiple listens!”
Devils Gate Media

A concept album, Seven Sins is undoubtedly the band’s most daring to date with a story revolving around the illustrious Dr Dealer, a character that singer and lyricist John ‘Harv’ Harbinson has brought to life under various guises already through the Stormzone back catalogue.Set in the 18th century, the album tells the story of the mysterious Dr Dealer, his travelling troupe of various gifted misfits and the Seven Sins Emporium into which he invites men to test their resolve and strength. “It’s hard to describe Seven Sins in one paragraph…” says Harv. “The story-line is so complex. It’s a very dark subject. It’s touch and go at times with regards to how far you can go with it, but at the end of it all there’s hope.”On the twelve days leading to the release of the album, the band unveiled a series of videos, one per day, expanding on the story behind each song. Harv commented, “The Seven Sins storyline is a little darker, deeper and more extensive than can be portrayed in full within the lyrics of the songs on the album. So in an effort to do the whole adventure further justice and, at the same time, hopefully give people a chance to get to know the interesting characters involved, we have created a series of atmospheric track-by-track videos, one for each song, that allow you to delve deeper into what the Seven Sins theme is all about.”

Album:

IF you think Stormzone are just an ordinary heavy metal band you are about to be handed your ass on a sling with the release of Lucifer's Factory -powerful, story driven, searing metal with real heart. And, with lyrical content that delves deep into Northern Ireland's mystical and dark past it elevates the band to heights that is a true evolution for them.As 'Dark Hedges' opens it is immediately apparent that this an album with added nitro. No longer with the band Gordy's recording sees the drums propels the opener to a frenzied start.Hold on to your ball sack as this is a ferocious start, all wrapped around the area made famous by Game of Thrones, but delving into the dancing ghost of the dark lady...'ware the tourists on June nights. That is just a hint of what the band achieve on this release...There are no dud tracks, there are no 'fillers'. The playing from all is impressive, the composition and arrangements are flawless. While it is easy to see Northern Ireland band's through rose (green?) tinted glasses, and to be overly effusive, had this landed in the inbox knowing nothing about the band it would get still get a great review. The tragedy of the title track, driven along by some tasty bass work from Graham merges into the tale of the infamous highwayman 'Cushy Glen' that manages that delicate trick of keeping it metallic with just enough of a Celtic twist. The furious riffing of Steve and Junior is better than the band have ever managed; someone slipped them the secret elixir to give them the patterns to merge the rhythm section blow for blow. And, as for the soloing - tempered in places, off the proverbial scale in other sections, but always perfectly matching the lyrical subject matter. The roving solo for 'Last Night In Hell' is a case in point. As history buffs the lyrical themes, whilst well known to us, explore the netherworld that helped create the nation we occupy, back in the mists of time.Bram Stoker may have penned 'Dracula' but there is considerable evidence that his inspiration was from the North West vampire 'Albhartach'. In the recounting of this tale the band move forward as if fleeing the devil, racing before the gates of hell close.'We Are Strong' is probably the closest to what one would normally expect from Stormzone - and given that would be great in itself it has all the elements as Harv narrates defiance before the chorus primes everyone to join in when this beast is played. On 'Broken Window' the insistent opening gives way to a mid-paced prowling panther of a song, menace dripping off every note as the County Antrim opening to Satan's lair, the doorway to the Inferno is recounted. The darkness that Harv explores in the words is more than just the typical metal poses and pretences. For example, fuck your trick and treat twats, firework obsessed, dickhead commercialism - listen to one of the real sources on 'Hallow's Eve' and when October 31st just check the footprints around the hearth. It is not just, however. the mythos of Ulster that is explored. 'The Last Goodbye' has all its roots - literally' in the shipwreck of the Spanish Armada ship, The Girona (worth a visit to the Ulster Museum with this track on the headphones..As for 'In For The Kill'...just listen and marvel. No more need to wax lyrical about this muscular behemoth of metal. As the final chords of the plaintive closer 'Time To Go' fade (there is a bonus track on the physical version) what is clear is that Stormzone have taken a massive risk. Heavier than before, ample helpings of heft and exploring themes that each could be a concept album in their own right. The risk paid off.
