Nighthawks - Night Of The Witch (2019)

Year : 2019
Style : Heavy Metal
Country : Greece
Audio : 320 kbps + all scans
Size : 115 mb
Bio:
HEAVY METAL FROM HELLAS.Heavy Metal band from Athens, Greece.A few years ago, through Rockpages, I presented an EP from Wolfchild, an up and coming Greek metal band that unfortunately proved a short lived endeavor. The two main members of the group, Panos Panic (drums) and Tho (vocals) went on to form Nighthawks and after two demos in 2018, the band recorded its first full length album. Nighthawks don’t drift that far from the Wolfchild style. They just moderate the thrash aggression in favor of a darker atmosphere. The main orientation is old school heavy metal enhanced with speed metal outbursts as introduced by bands like Exciter. I believe that current Convixion is a domestic point of sonic reference while the diversity in style and pace bears a resemblance to Brocas Helm. The only thing certain is that Nighthawks cannot easily fall under a specific genre. The term Heavy metal is more than enough.
Album:
Whenever looking for a new band within the traditional heavy/power metal sector Greece is one of the first places to go to. So it should not come as surprise that this pretty new band absolutely slays on their debut full length called “Night of the Witch”. Everything from the band name over the album title to the lyrics and the cover art screams old school and this is great. Innovation might be great under certain circumstances but when it comes to music I believe it is overrated and therefore I am always glad to find a band that just takes what has perfectly worked for decades and puts out its own powerful interpretation. The riffs are sharp and perfectly executed and some of the chord progressions are of such an uplifting and rocking nature that one cannot help but bang the head while listening to the music. The rhythm and the lead guitars are perfectly harmonized offering a perfect blend of straight rocking grooves and some clever placed melodic elements. Of course there are solo parts to be found as well but those are never overdone hurting the flow of the music. The mixture of the crunchy main riffs and euphoric lead harmonies makes up for a perfectly entertaining listening experience. The main chords are glorious and fascinating and sometimes have a slightly melancholic and always epic touch. Guitarist Panos has done a great job of presenting some subtle variations of the trademark riffs over the course of the record. Themes similar to the ones of prior songs are picked up again and woven into other tracks giving the whole record a great and coherent flow. The drumming is fast and ferocious pushing the music even more forward. The speed and intensity are kept high over most of the playing time with only a few slowed down parts. Thankfully the band members are very talented songwriters making sure that each song is easily distinguishable from the others so that there is not one moment of boredom. That being said the album has a very stringent feel leading to a very satisfying listening experience when consuming the whole record in one sitting. The harmonies are hooky and the refrains are catchy. The song structures are well defined following the traditional verse-chorus formula for the most part and the overall placement of the single tracks in the context of the album lead to it being easily enjoyable. The production is nearly flawless. The guitars have a crunchy yet clean sound and the drums have a nice punch to them. The mix is clear with each instrument being audible. Overall I can only recommend this record to each fan of quality power or traditional metal in general. This album should be an essential part of the any serious heavy/power metal fan’s collection.
