Bio:

As our world enters into the second decade of the new millennia, music continues to be a driving force in all our lives. More than just a backdrop lost in the noise, music is the marker of the many milestones along our journey through life. Each and every moment in time can be linked to a memorable song, an inspirational melody or the emotionally charged lyrics of our favorite songwriter. Music is the energy that moves our lives - it is powerful. Music is universal. Music is forever.Corners of Sanctuary was formed in early 2011 after members of a previous band, Seeker, regrouped in 2010 to celebrate the band’s anniversary. The reunion spawned a desire that brought members Sean Nelligan, James Pera and Mick Michaels to begin working together again. Vocalist Frankie Cross was added to complete the line up. Each member had honed their craft while playing in several Philadelphia-area based bands. The need to return to their roots was apparent. With a direction and a sound that by now was inherent to each, Corners of Sanctuary (C.O.S.) began writing and rehearsing all original material. On Friday, March 30, 2012, C.O.S. released their six-track EP, Forgotten Hero. The EP received national acclaim at SD Metal.A fan video for the title track “Forgotten Hero” was produced using a variety of clips which includes images supplied to the band by personal friends who served in the armed forces overseas.C.O.S. promoted the disc’s release with a string of private shows and radio interviews. Since the release of Breakout, C.O.S. has been working with La Mazakuata Records to expand the band’s fan reach in Mexico, Central and South America. C.O.S. appeared on La Mazakuata Records’ compilation release Metal Invasion Chapter Two, which released December 15, 2012. The songs “Sanctuary” and “Cross of War” appear on the disc.C.O.S. released the Holiday EP December Wind on November 1, 2012 which includes an all new, all original track “December Wind”. Also featured on the EP are cuts from previous releases and the first single, from the January 22, 2013 CD release Harlequin, “Angels Only Dare”. A portion of sales from the Holiday EP had been donated to cancer research. A video for the “December Wind” single was also produced. Two follow up editions of of the Holiday EP, "Merry Metal Xmas I and II" have also been released in 2013 and 2014.C.O.S. supported the Harlequin release with a string of live performances and interviews during 2013. Before the year was out, however, the band released their third album "Axe to Grind" under the La Mazakuata records label and toured throughout 2014 in support as well as supporting noted artists such as Anvil and David Shankle (Manowar, DSG). The "Axe to Grind" was later picked up by the Germany based company, Pure Steel Records, in late 2014 and re-release din Europe. In 2015, Corners of Sanctuary embarked on their "Metal Machine Tour" as the band prepares to release their fourth album under Metalizer Records in Germany, During the first leg of their travels the band supported noted artists such as Saxon and Damon Johnson. "Metal Machine" has been mastered by famed producer and Death Dealer guitarist Stu "The Hammer" Marshall. In the calm before the storm of the new album's release on October 31, 2015, C.O.S. released the EP "Prelude to War - The Japan Demo" as a FREE Mp3 download on their website in July 2015. This EP features eight tracks. In August 2015, Corners of Sanctuary was names Rockwired Magazine's Artist of the Month as well as gracing the cover of Spain's Heavy Riffs Magazine. More is to come... stay tuned!Driven by the power and inspiration given to us by music, Corners of Sanctuary finds itself on the threshold of rebirth. Forged in the fires of classic Heavy Metal, C.O.S. comes full circle as the sound of yesterday lives again as the sound of today. Hard hitting, head banging, straight forward Heavy Metal is the mission - nothing less will do. Old School is back with a vengeance....It's is the New Wave of American Heavy Metal... Metal has returned!

Album:

3 full-length album. In a time when the metal genre has become so inundated with a megaton of the same old, same old formula, a refreshing shadow is being cast by a band hailing from Philadelphia, PA – Corners of Sanctuary. Their brand is metal; however, more corners-of-sanctuary-axe-to-grind-smallto the style of heavy metal that forged the roots of the genre’s existence – the stuff that made it great. The band’s sound is definitely in the traditional vein, but by no means does this throwback resonance make it any less powerful or hard-hitting to the modern listener.Corners of Sanctuary’s latest release is titled Axe to Grind. It was released on November 1, 2013, through La Mazakuata Records. The album contains 11 tracks – each one stamping its very own personal statement, while adding to the overall commanding presence of the disc – making the impact of the whole album great because of the sum of its parts. A few notable tracks are “On the Hunt,” “A Fist Full of Vengeance,” and the haunting “Shadow Soldiers.” The music is simply lean, mean and rip-roaring.Axe to Grind is nostalgic in that there are subtle hints of early Judas Priest, Accept and other NWOBHM giants, showing the band’s lineage and influence. Yet there is also a modern, relevant element that brings the music far above the genre’s early efforts. But even still, there is an ingredient that keeps the listener completely engaged and emotionally attached to the music – like being on a rollercoaster underwater. Unlike much of today’s singular aggressive approach, Corners of Sanctuary manages to incorporate a wide range of emotional twists and turns – none being in short supply. This roller coaster is metally charged. If you like old school heavy metal, then Axe to Grind is a perfect addition to your collection. If you are looking for something different, especially in a market that is currently offering an unhealthy, hefty serving of much of the same dish, then this album and this band will be exactly what you have been craving.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based heavy metal rockers Corners of Sanctuary(COS) have signed a new deal with German label Killer Metal Records for the release of their new album The Galloping Hordes. The album is set to release this year and will be the band’s sixth album following 2015’s Metal Machine and the holiday album Driven Snow.Corners of Sanctuary guitarist Mick Michaels has checked in with the following comment: “We are excited to get this album out through our new label Killer Metal Records. A lot of work has gone into this new material and we are very fortunate to have the opportunity to make its release official".Killer Metal Records label owner Jens Häfner has provided the following comment: “We are very happy to be working with COS for the release of their new album and have been extremely impressed by their work. We welcome COS to the KMR family and look forward to a bright future working together”.Signing a five-year deal with the German label, the band plans to forge a long term relationship and looks to the future with renewed optimism. “This gives us a lot of room to grow for sure and gives our music a home,” Michaels stated. "There’s actually an opportunity for both label and artist to be invested plus it ensures future releases will have a voice to be heard”.The Galloping Hordes, which has been mastered by legendary producer Bill Metoyer (Slayer, W.A.S.P., Fates Warning), will initially see a digital release to begin building momentum followed by a physical release later in the year which will coincide with the band’s upcoming summer tour of Germany this August.“We are beyond stoked to be heading to Germany for a number of shows", stated COS bassist James Pera. “The support has been phenomenal to say the least. We are looking forward to putting on a good show and making new friends with our Metal German brothers and sisters in arms,” Pera added. The mini tour will have them performing in Hanover, Hamburg, Lingen, and Oldenburg among other areas. “There is a lot of work ahead of us to make it all come together, and we are definitely up for this without a doubt,” said drummer Mad T.With a string of shows, including recently appearing with That Metal Show co-host and comedian Don Jamieson and being upcoming support for 80’s rockers Roughhouse (formerly Teeze) and Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna along with playing the Dead of Winter Storm Fest, COS has been in and out of the studio working on old and new music. “We are revamping a handful of older set favorites and laying down some new music that’s been floating around,” offered Pera. “The music is always evolving and that’s what it’s all about, the music… without that, there isn’t much else to offer,” he said with a smile.Along with time in the studio and shows, the band plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign in late spring lead by MBM Music Inc., as well as host an album release party which will have them perform.

Metal has returned!

Album:

The New Wave of Heavy Metal. Some people would argue that come the noughties, Heavy Metal as a genre splintered and thus were born many of the sub genres. Deathcore, Nu Metal and other more obscure sub genres, I mean I saw someone refer to a band as Mathcore recently, if anyone can enlighten me please do!! But here we have today a band that are part of the New Wave, that like to mix what is best of European and American styles and uphold the traditional sound. I am of course talking about CORNERS OF SANCTUARY.With their most recent release “Heroes Never Die” we have a twelve-track studio album that promises to deliver that hard hitting, fist pumping sound that we all love. So, lets get to it. The artwork plays to the title, with a view of silhouetted figures on a war-torn street, simple and to the point. I like it.The opening track “We Never” instantly impresses with dominant chords that make an instant statement. The track moves along at a steady pace, with a chorus that one can just see swathes of crowds chanting in unison. “Someone Else’s War” and “The Truth In Lies” continue with this sturdy and pounding presence that has been exposed so far. With a longer tracking time, “Combat Shock” and the titular “Heroes Never Die” provide a bit more meat to the bones of the album with some strong delivery again. Each track has some depth to it with subtle nuances between the main instrumental tracks that can do nothing but add to the music. “Into The Fight” returns to the same shorter, almost breathless attack of music that leaves myself as a listener wanting more, but more comes. “I Will” and “We Won’t Back Down (Do Or Die)” both still use that up-tempo pace that has been present, but the elongated track times allow the songs to be developed a bit further and as such compliment the shorter track that preceded them perfectly. As we come into the closing quarter of the album, I like to leave a little bit of surprise for you, the listener and reader when you come to it. So, on reflection this is a fantastic album. Personally, I can see the traditional styles coming straight to the fore, I kept getting shades of JUDAS PRIEST all the way through, don’t ask me why but I was just expecting “You Got Another Thing Coming” or “Turbo Lover” to kick in. I think that, once again, CORNERS OF SANCTUARY have delivered a stellar album and it will be a fantastic addition to anyone’s library!

Two follow up editions of of the Holiday EP, "Merry Metal Xmas I and II" have also been released in 2013 and 2014.C.O.S. supported the Harlequin release with a string of live performances and interviews during 2013. 2023 is off and running, and so are Traditional Metalheads CORNERS OF SANCTUARY (COS). The prolific Philly boys have hit the ground running with a host of shows, including a UK tour and a brand new extended EP release.COS’ latest edition to their ever growing catalog of music is the extended EP, “This is Metal.” The EP releases February 17th on Sonic Velocity Records and is now available. The EP contains seven new songs and two bonus tracks, including an adrenalized cover of Judas Priest’s British Steel smash hit, “Breaking the Law.”“We wanted to present this EP in a way that calls back to the glory days of classic Metal,” said COS guitarist Mick Michaels. “Since we had so much fun last year working on the Def Leppard songs, we knew the next time around, we wanted to do a Priest cover. After seeing Priest’s Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction performance and seeing K.K. with the band, we all knew this was the song to do.”This band from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) first hit the music scene in 2011, but they’ve already an impressive discography having released many albums and three EP’s so far.In 2012 the band began to gain momentum, after the release of their first album Breakout. With the release of their debut the band was described as a ‘new way of traditional american heavy metal’ as complementary to infamous ‘new way of british heavy metal’. After a couple of spins in my stereo I have some serious doubts if this new movement/genre will have cause same impact on metal & rock scene like the UK version did. However, it doesn’t mean that they are not good, as they handle their instruments to a perfection, but I also felt like I have heard it all numerous times before. In other ords; we are dealing here with a highly ambitious and talented quartet, and even some of the band members were active in the band Seeker before.
