Bio:

TUNGSTEN was formed in 2016 by drummer Anders Johansson (ex Hammerfall, ex Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s Rising Force) after his sons Karl and Nick Johansson had let him listen to some songs they had composed together.Anders: “I really liked the songs. My sons are of course younger than me, and the songs were modern metal, like something I could never come up with.At the same time, I could hear melodies that reminded me of Nordic folk music that made me think of the past. The overall impression was catchy heavy metal with both past and future present. I asked Karl and Nick if they wanted to join me in a band and play these songs with me, and I’m happy that they accepted”.With drums (Anders), guitars (Nick) and bass (Karl), and newly composed songs, TUNGSTEN asked Mike Andersson (Cloudscape, ex Planet Alliance, Fullforce) to do vocals.Mike has a powerful voice and a varied style of singing and was a perfect fit to TUNGSTEN’s music.

Album:

The recording of TUNGSTEN’s debut album WE WILL RISE took place in the summer of 2018. Drums were recorded at Heptagon studios and guitars and bass at Harmstudios. Vocals and choirs later added by Mike.WE WILL RISE is produced and mixed by Nick Johansson. The music on TUNGSTEN’s debut album has influences from the different backgrounds of the members.Anders Johansson is one of the most skilled and experienced drummers in the metal world with a background in listening to Deep Purple and Rainbow, but he also has strong influences from jazz and he plays upright bass. The musical talent was passed on to Karl and Nick who praises bands like Rammstein and Meshuggah. Being from a later generation, they bring modernity and current trends to the music.Mike enjoys a wide variety of bands, from Bee Gees to Meshuggah, and listens a lot to different singing styles which contributes to the melodic and varied singing on WE WILL RISE.The lyrics on TUNGSTEN’s WE WILL RISE also deals with both past and present. Some of them are about fiction and fantasy and tells stories of ancient wars, knights and heroic heroes, whilst others are more realistic and describes everyday life with drama, passion and sorrow, in today’s world.ARISING EMPIRE RECORDS and Markus Staiger, who is responsible for the success of many bands, loved the album WE WILL RISE and a contract between ARISING EMPIRE RECORDS and TUNGSTEN was signed in spring 2019.The record company decided to launch WE WILL RISE later in 2019.The artwork for WE WILL RISE, as well as the TUNGSTEN logotype, were made by the legendary Andreas Marshall who is known for being the creator behind album covers for bands such as Blind Guardian, Obituary and Hammerfall. Andreas also created “Volfram”, the man on the album cover who is holding a guiding lantern and a battle axe.The layout for the WE WILL RISE album was put together by Rainer Kalwitz.TUNGSTEN recorded three music videos with well-known music video creator Patrick Ullaeus. The first one to be released was the title track “We will rise”.

Album:

Swedish metal band Tungsten is back with a second album, entitled "Tundra". The music on "Tundra" follows the musical direction Tungsten had on "We Will Rise", but with more of everything. The listener will recognize the characteristics of Tungsten, but the sound is darker and more epic than before. The blend-in of catchy metal is there. Karl (bass & screams) says: "The diversity is still definitely there, just like on the first album, but this time around to quote my dad's boss from the 80s: more is more'! The lyrics on "Tundra" are a lot about time. They are still down to earth dealing about natural things that common people might relate too. There are also fiction and mysterious stories about Volfram, the man on the album covers who is the guardian of time and balance, the traveler between time and space and different dimensions. On "Tundra" he has travelled from a world in a past time with castles, fairies and knights to a future world which is a city after its fall, ending up in the middle of an icy tundra where almost no man can survive the freezing cold climate. Mike (vocals): "We are so eager to release Tundra, a true melodic, heavy piece of metal! We are truly excited! Considering we couldn't tour with We Will Rise, we are now more than ready to hit the road in 2021." Nick adds: "We're already confirmed for Sabaton Open Air in August 2021."

Album:

Industrial power metal band Tungsten have hardly stopped since their formation in 2016 and 2022 is no different. On June 17th, 2022 and via Arising Empire, they will release their 3rd album, Bliss. So, what does 2022 and the 3rd Tungsten album hold for both new and old fans? More grand industrial power metal tinged with Northern folk, more hook-heavy and rhythmic tunes and more sing-along choruses. Yet, while all of this might feel familiar, there is something notably different this time around. This is a heavier Tungsten. It’s also a darker Tungsten. A prominent development for the band. Yet, importantly, this doesn’t change the thrilling and fist-pumping groove the band has showcased over the past 6 years. In fact, it almost enhances it. The dynamic melodies and thicker metal edges working to create an intriguing and memorable mix.Few bands could kick of their album with a ‘made for the crowd’ industrial head-banger and a folksy, upbeat foot-tapper. Yet, that is exactly what Tungsten do with In the Center and Dreamers. Uproariously different, if this is your first rodeo with Tungsten, you’ll find yourself well and truly won over by this start. There’s plenty more to enjoy throughout too. From the cinematic March Along and the ‘classic’ power metal vibes of Heart of Rust. To the stupendously catchy ‘hoo-ha’ of Come This Way, the dark industrial and blackened beating heart of the title track (Tungsten at their heaviest sounding), the eccentricity of Wonderland and dance-inducing folk hooks of Afraid of Light. Fun is offered and fun will be had.All leading to a massive ending in the form of Northern Lights. Where Tungsten combine their Northern influences effectively with their penchant for hook-heavy head-bangers and epic singalongs. As grand as it gets, and it gets pretty damn grand on this album.Tungsten have yet another super-smooth, super-satisfying and super-enjoyable album’s worth of music with Bliss. Music that is familiar, yet has such a unique set-up and delivery, it never fails to entertain.

Album:

Tungsten, a formidable force in the Scandinavian metal scene, was formed in Skåne, Sweden, in 2016. The band's drummer Anders Johansson’s two sons, Karl and Nick, had composed some songs together. After listening to the songs, Anders suggested that they should record them together and so they did with a shared passion for creating powerful and innovative metal music. Mike Andersson was asked to join as a vocalist and Tungsten was formed. Tungsten's musical journey is characterized by a fusion of various metal sub-genres, including traditional heavy metal, power metal, elements of progressive metal and notably Swedish folk songs. The band's unique sound is often attributed to their diverse musical backgrounds and influences. Each member brings a distinctive flavor to the collective sound, resulting in a dynamic and engaging musical experience. The band's ability to push boundaries and consistently deliver high-quality metal music positions them as a notable force in the global metal scene, and their story is one of persistence, creativity, and a relentless passion for the art of metal music that connects the past with the future.
